If Matt Bowen from National Football Post and his vote have anything to say about it, it's going to be the Claymaker.

Bowen's short list and choice

Bowen says:
I look at players and how they work within the scheme of the defense, their impact on the overall unit and how disruptive they can be throughout the course of a Sunday, and in this case, the entire season. Saying that, I am turning in my ballot today with the Packers’ linebacker getting my vote. He is the best overall defensive football player in the NFL this season.

I'd say Troy Polamalu as well.

If not for Charlie Peprah, Clay Mathews would be buried on a losing team. Peprah has performed at a level far far beyond what anybody could have reasonably expected of him.

So I vote for Charlie Peprah because he's the reason Clay Mathew's astounding defensive impact is going to win him defensive Player of the Year by a margin wide enough I can waste my vote one of the little guys who made it all possible..

All those guys are worthy candidates and I wouldn't have a problem with any of them. Peppers probably is the least worthy despite clearly helping turn around the Bears D.

One thing in Matthews favor, in the 2 games he was out (okay it was really more like 1 and 1/4 but you get my drift), the Packers lost both of them.

Johnny Z!!! Holy crap he's posting on NFP. Wonder if he'll come back here
That is our Johnny Z for sure.

I watched the Packer vs Eagles replay on NFLN last night and was amazed at how much better Peprah is than Morgan Burnett was in that game.
Love for it to be CMIII, but feel it will go to Polamalu. I think CMIII's impact is a smidge greater than Polamalu's, but Polamalu has the name and rep, and seems to have a knack for making a game-changing/saving play at crunch time when people tend to notice it more.
