Needless to say, the Brewers hopes for post-season are almost on life-support with three tough weeks of baseball still ahead.  What was once such a promising season for a Milwaukee team playing its best baseball in team history.  Now after the past two weeks, we see almost all hope for a divisional title going down the drain.  Not to mention any chance at a Wild Card berth. Perhaps the player-only meeting today, after yet another embarrassing loss, will help to recover their lost momentum and confidence.  But I ain't going to bet on it.  And it sounds like some other folks back in Milwaukee are not either.

A JSOnline Poll earlier today showed 65% voters favored canning the GM or Mgr and most favored terminating both if the Brewers don't rally and make it to post-season action.  Reading past history, Ned Yost was fired after his team caved in during a two-week stretch in late 2008(?).  But this present day collapse is history in the making.  Only 4 other teams have failed like this prior to the Brewers imploding the last two months.   And then there was not a second WC spot.

Today I heard Ron Roenicke say:

He is satisfied with the recent efforts of this team

He thinks he does not need to talk more to the team despite their continued poor play

He thinks there is plenty of time left in this season for the Brewers to turn around things

So...how do you respond to that?   Being satisfied with the effort.  I am sure he knows more about his team than anyone else.  But to hear him say he is okay with their playing effort.  Hard to comprehend his reasoning.   Then to listen to him say, he does not think it is necessary to address the team collectively after another bad loss as it could only make things worse.  Worse?  How much more worse can it get?  Furthermore, if what you're doing isn't working maybe it is time to try a different tactic...Like calling out your team to get their heads out of the toilets and get back to playing winning baseball or at least competent baseball.  Lastly, there are three weeks left with the Brewers having to go on the road to face STL and Pitt with FLA coming to Milwaukee tomorrow.  And FLA is in the WC hunt too.  Oh yeah, STL is 5 games ahead of Milwaukee now.  Even if the Brewers are lucky enough to win 6-7 in a row, does he really think STL or Pitt is all of a sudden going to choke out a bunch of losses?

This Brewers team is on the brink and in real trouble.  Heck, they gotta be hoping they are lucky enough to finish over .500.

So do the Brewers make changes in the dugout and front office if they flop out in the last three weeks?  Maybe it will be time.

I don't know it's the exact same situation Bong but I have to think Attanasio isn't going to be pleased if this team cannot find their way to a postseason bid considering they lead the division for 5 months.

As for Braun, I am starting to think we have seen the best out of him and we may never see the 30+ HR and 100+ RBI seasons especially if he can't stay healthy.  What we don't know is was it the thumb and the steroids or just the thumb?
Will either of them be gone? Probably not.
BUT, I said it a month ago ... The fact that they did not go get anybody at trade deadline and do not make playoffs, will cost Attanasio big time in ticket sales.
Their marketing momentum that they had bringing up Fielder, Braun & Co will be officially gone.
BTW, I'm starting to feel about Gallardo the way I felt about Sheets at the end ... He is not worth the money he gets in Milwaukee market.
Let's talk more about the expensive guys that no longer belong in Milwaukee.

I agree with this 100%.  Gallardo is nothing more than a #3 - not worth the money left on his option.  He's not called Yo-Yo for nothing - can look incredible one or two games and then a bunch of crap like he's doing tonight.

Should be a lot of $$ free next year with Weeks gone, too.

I don't think anyone gets canned in the offseason.  At least as far as Melvin and Roenicke go.  As much as I've scratched my head about how he handles his starters and bullpen, Roenicke can't control how these guys play.  He can get put them in the best position to succeed, but they still have to pitch and hit.  As far as what goes on in the locker room, none of us truly never know.  What has happened to this team is as much psychological as physical.  I don't buy that these guys don't care.  The longer the losing has gone on, the more pressing these guys are doing.

What I would like to see:

Melvin gone.  I think it's time for a new approach.  We knew when he came over from Texas, he would attempt to mold this team into an offensive powerhouse.  And that he did.  He helped this team get back to the postseason.  And I appreciate that.  But at the end of the day, this team lacked playoff caliber pitching.  I would like to see a fresh perspective which focus' on pitching.

Braun traded.  Yes I said it.  Doubt we can move him with that contract.  But maybe we could get a couple of arms.

Agree on Yo.  It's time to go.  Paid like an Ace, pitches like a #4.

K-Rod gone.  Broxton become inherent closer.

Find an answer at 1b.

I don't think an entire rebuilding needs to be done.  A few more tweaks here and there.

Say wha...

Ok, team collapsed.  I get it.  But both of these guys are top 15 in the league in their respective capacities I think.  Melvin especially, you could make the argument that he has been a top 3 GM the past 6 or 7 years.

Roenicke is a bit brutal in the Yost kind of way when it comes to game management.  But again, the players seem to like him and up until the last week or two really its felt like a team that's been pretty level in terms of confidence.  It would be nice if we had a ton of money to toss at players and solve issues that way like the big markets can, but we're sitting at a 100M dollar payroll+ right now... it's not paltry, and frankly you can put this on the guys that play the game every day more than the guys orchestrating the show.  Personally, i feel that Melvin has done a great job managing this franchise and putting a team that has a chance to win every year out there.  They are currently rebuilding the farm system too...

Agree Diggr.  Doug is doing a nice job of keeping us in contention without spending the future badly.  Garza will be interesting but Lohse and ARam have already been solid investments.  RR was a great choice as manager and is a worthy candidate going forward.  However there does come a time where change removes complacency.  Making a move comes with the risk of the unknown.  We will see if Mark A is a gambler soon.

Hey, Another WIN.  And a good one too...aside from the injury.  But now the Brewers seem to have gotten some of their mojo back.  All games are important, but this series vs Cincy will set the tone for their upcoming road-trip games vs STL and Pitt.  Maybe they're getting that 400 Lb gorilla off their back just in time to get hot and make a run into the playoffs.
