After watching the debacle tonight...and seeing Frazier smirking at having to play Freeman because Speilman said so....it got me to wondering...

I think it's time to put the Vikings on notice that we will be watching them trying to tank the season to draft:   Johnny Football himself.

I think Johnny will come out after this...his sophomore season.  Since he reminds many folks of Fran Tarkenton, the Vikes would love to get that #1 pick.   They would fire Frazier, too.

So, we need to start watching the Vikes purposely trying to lose like the Colts did a few years back in order to draft Luck.   I still remember watching Reggie Wayne purposely fumble to lose a game that season.  It was so obvious the announcers made a comment.  Maybe we can count on AP purposely fumbling near the goal line to lose a game, too.

You heard it here first, folks.  The Vikings will start tanking the season in order to be in position to draft Johnny Football.

Of course....I could be wrong.

They have GB twice, Bears, Dallas, Seattle, and an improving RGIII in the next 6 weeks.

With that brutal schedule, there is likely no need to tank at all. Playing their best football they know how, they may not win a game. Beyond that they get the Lions, Bengals, and have to play at Baltimore. You could be talking 9 more losses playing the best football they can.

They just finished playing "the easy" part of their schedule=1-5

I had thought that maybe with Ponder that was a 4 win team.   Now I am thinking 4 wins might be generous regardless of what QB is playing.

Freeman was absolutely brutal last night against a very mediocre Giants team.   Simply put, the Vikes are a complete mess at the QB position and their defense still cannot stop anyone.

As for other teams, Houston might be a better position to "tank" but the Vikings will get there on their own.

You have to be competent to tank.  I don't know if the Vikings have that level of competence right now.

I'd suggest that the Vikings suck so much they might not need to tank, but...

There's still Jacksonville, who really are that bad.  And Tampa is a mess too.

I wonder if they really did "tank" how the NFL would react?  Moreover, how would the fans react?  If I'm a season ticket holder, and I see a potential tank, could the season ticket holder sue, for their ticket costs?  I wouldn't want to pay $$$ to see them lose.  BTW -  This could be any team.

Also, how would the NFL argue that league integrity is imperative, with tanking teams.  That's one reason why baseball is so F'd, you have some teams that put in their younger players and the integrity of the game is lost at the end of the season.

The Peterson vikes don't have time to properly groom a rookie QB, that ship sank with Ponder

So they opted for a short-cut, grabbing Freeman in hopes that he can be the guy

He isn't.

They should trade Peterson to Jerry Jones and start over, but they won't

This Sunday night will be interesting; nothing more dangerous than a wounded mosquito

The year you REALLY want to tank is 2014 since that Florida State QB Winston will likely be the #1 pick of the 2015 draft.  He's an Andrew Luck type prospect in terms of "can't miss" at this point assuming he stays healthy during the next couple of years.

Manziel and Bridgewater are impressive prospects, but not "can't miss" from what I can tell.

Well, I think we would have to look at what Commish Badd-All did to the Colts after the 2011 Season when they tanked?   ...um...nothing....

The Colts did clean house a bit with coaching and GM....but there were no penalties...

I mean really...signing retired Kerry Collins and then playing Painter.....not having a Plan B in place.  Seriously?   I started to watch some of their games that season a bit closer...especially the games that were close.  More than a few times I saw some very suspicious play by their veterans....but, maybe it was just a coincidence.

Bottom Line:  The NFL will do nothing if a team tanks.

The NFL just had record rating numbers for Luck vs. Manning.

The NFL could care less if you tank. They care about your fan base tuning into the combine and draft and how you draft after you tank. The $$$ for the NY Giants market for the combine and draft is staggering right now. So is the potential $$$ for prime time games next year if they nail the draft.

That's why the NFL must hate Ted Thompson. It's tough to make money off consistently sound. It's kind of boring.
