I was listening to Stearns a couple of nights ago on a local radio station.  Said he wants Hiura to experience AAA ball because he'll see guys that mix in a bit more off-speed stuff at that level.  He'll see guys that maybe pitched in the majors briefly and are trying to get back and Stearns thinks that seeing those type of guys will give him the final prep for hitting at the Major league level.

I would also think that the longer they delay on Hiura coming up, it gives them an extra year of control of the contract though I don't know for a fact if it works out that way.

Broxton turns 29 in May. He's not a prospect any more. He is what he is.

Adam Hill has only pitched in Single A, but he's 21 years old and struck out 26 against 7 walks in 15 innings last year. Felix Valerio is only 18 years old and hit .319 in rookie league last year. If one of them is a contributor, the deal looks good down the road. Bobby Wahl has been lit up at the big league level.

Having said that, I'm surprised they did this. Broxton is a good guy to have on the bench during a playoff game. He's a great fielder and an outstanding pinch runner.
