Has any sporting event fallen further, faster than the Olympics?  It used to be must see TV in my house….now I will check in for a segment or 2 but when a commercial comes on and I click to something else I find I don’t go back.  I think it is a combo platter of commercialism, made up sports, professional/amature,  the other side of the world(we know who won before it is broadcast), politics/China and throw in some wokeness.

IMO that’s how I went from must see to meh.

I get tired of the constant stories centering on US athletes. It's a world event and I'd like to see more competitors from other nations compete and learn more about them. Find the fun stories with different angles; right now, I feel like it's wash-rinse-repeat. Meh.

I actually love the Winter Olympics. Vs the summer Olympics, which I couldn’t give a crap about. However the fact that this will be the first winter games using 100% man-made snow makes me sick. If you’re a skier, there’s a big difference in man-made vs. natural. And it can cause a lot more serious accidents for the competitors.

Watching USA/China curling match, pairs, one man one woman........and OMGAWD the female on the China team is yelling so loud in Chinese that i’m muting the TV.  Oh, and USA won.    🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸

Wrapping up a weekend of not watching these Olympics in solidarity with my Uighur friends. My conscience is clear. You people (TM) have blood on your hands.

Shortly after graduating high school I moved to Colorado and was a snow maker for Vail associates for 3 seasons. You are right. There is a difference between natural and man-made snow. Man-made snow is much faster and more durable then natural snow. All of the main/most heavily used runs on the mountain have man made snow as a base because natural snow would not hold up to the heavy skier traffic/daily grooming.

We also made snow for the world cup events ( downhill and mogul )  courses. The "snow" for those courses was closer to being ice then it was snow because it made for a more durable, faster track. That is what all of the top skiers wanted. I remember one event where a few of the top skiers were bitching because the "snow" wasn't icy ( fast )  enough for their liking. lol

I was lucky to have been able to have front row seats ( on the courses ) to watch some of the top skiers of the world. It's mind boggling just how fast these skiers can go especially the very aggressive ones.   Catch an edge, clip a gate or make the smallest of mistakes at those speeds and you're in for a world of hurt. It's not so far fetched to say that downhill skiing at the Olympic level is more of a controlled crash then it is a race.

There is heavy commercialism for sure - it's annoying the number of commercials they've thrown in.  I don't know if it's heavier in commercials this year compared to other years, but it feels like it is.  My wife and I were watching women's big ski jumps/tricks/whatever it's called.  If the commercials weren't cutting into the entire competition, they were playing off to the side while the competition was happening in a smaller screen - you could hear the commercial, but not the broadcast.  We didn't get to watch but maybe half the competition.  We decided that's the last we'll watch of the olympics.  That, and China's evil.

That's racing for you.  If you aren't almost out of control, you're not going to win.  But yeah, you have to have balls to ski 76 mph or more down a steep hill, doing steep turns, flying through the air in some spots, and going blind in some areas.  Sheesh.  I probably ski at around 25-30 mph when I feel like I'm getting out of control.  On flat snow.  On a wide run.  I can't imagiune doing what they do.
