That was Oshballesquse.
That was Oshballesquse.
Watched some of the game again (cause I hate myself). Tanner was a different QB in the second half then he was in the first. I think this came from two factors; from the beginning, the receivers sucked. Bad routes, slow, no separation. By the second half, with little hope of a guy being open and the game getting away, dude got happy feet bigtime. I get that the receivers suck, but you have to keep your poise.
I have no idea if Tanner was wrong or Love was wrong, but who the hell is calling those bombs anyway? Bucky was owning the line of scrimmage, and LSU was creeping up to stop MIII, but why must you counter with the slowest developing plays with receivers who suck? Throw some crossing routes where the linebackers have vacated (on play action). Cripes that pissed me off.
No depth on defense either. Some nice talent, but no depth. Can GA fix that in two years will be his mark. Next year will be his last with Bret's boys.
They are what we thought they were - no real QB, no WR worth a damn and a paper-thin front 7 that has promise but that is incredibly young. When Zags and then Herring went down, that was it - L$U just pounded them.
This will be a year when they beat the bad teams and lose to the good ones.
βThe scenario was real simple at halftime,β Andersen said Monday. βMelvin had a little bit of a hip flexor (injury). Anybody that knows Melvin could see that on the long run that he broke out there in the second half. He pulled up at the end of that run.β
If that is true, this team is done if Gordon gets hurt. They will be back to the Badgers of pre-Alvarez.
Man I do love Bucky and I will always be there rooting for them but man it wears on me them losing all the big games. It always seems that they find a way to pee down their legs in big games. OSU the last few years, bowl games, MSU a couple of years ago, and Saturday night. All that being said though I do think that they are headed in a nice direction and I do like their talent and how they played their hearts out. Hopefully Anderson can keep up getting better talent and I look forward to the rematch with LSU.
Gordan being slowed/hurt in the 2nd half does not excuse the poor performance of TinCup.
Who drew up a game plan that allowed the team to throw 23 passes when they had a double digit lead for much of the game?
They could have run the read option about 10 more times IMO. Not enough designed runs for the QB if his legs are supposed to be the difference between him and Stave.
Now they'll pound on the likes of Western Illinois for the rest of the season and everything will be fine and dandy until they get exposed in a bowl game again.
Stave is out indefinitely.

Now the only game plan should be rtfb followed by rtfb or find someone on the street who can throw and maybe a receiver or two. Screw it, RTFB.
If, for whatever reason, they are dead-set against playing Houston and McEvoy doesn't get better over the next couple of weeks, put the freshman Gillins in there and take your lumps. If you're going to stink at QB, you may as well stink with some upside.
Yes JJSD...they did that with Bollinger and that turned out okay. Of courses, he had Dayne for some of it...
And FreeSafety, that is what is most irritating...if Gordon was hurt, they still had Clement and plenty of other decent backs. No reason to pass like they did. That was absolutely the worst play calling I can remember.
So reporters told that #Badgers Stave is NOT injured. More to come

Physically Stave is fine, but mentally not so at this point. OK, will put more in #Badgers blog ASAP.
β Jeff Potrykus (@jaypo1961) September 3, 2014
It sounds like Stave lost it mentally, Anderson tried to cover for him by saying it was a shoulder in case Houston came in the game.
good analysis, Trump. You could be right. The Gary Anderson Era started out ok last year, but now has a few bumps. Time will tell.
Just line up with all of our RBs in the single wing and be done with it. Roll over the weaker opponents, struggle against the good ones. That's how it will play out anyway.
Hey Zeus. Anderson is acting like he's never had to deal with the media before. Savvy is not the word that comes to mind. He's looking like he's in over his head.
Stave must really look bad in practice if there was no thought of putting him in during the second half at LSU. I was watching that game thinking that the only chance we had when we got the ball back was to run a trick play or just punt the ball and hope that LSU fumbled a snap. The announcers kept saying how there was no separation with the WRS, but McEvoy missed the TE and the RBs in the flat a few times. At least Stave could have gone through his progressions and dump the ball off underneath. Did McEvoy even scan the field? It just seemed like he locked onto one guy and if he wasn't open he threw the ball as far as he could deep.
Why didn't they try a screen pass? A WR bubble screen? Something?
I wouldn't put this on the receivers..McEvoy was absolutely terrible..It will be interesting to see if he can hit the soon to be 'open' receivers that will be running free versus WIU.
Hard to believe the Badgers couldn't recruit a better QB if they knew Stave was having issues.
McEvoy got happy feet bigtime in the second half, but the receivers were horrible.
Watt out. Until November. Herring had surgery. Not sure if Gordon was injured. Stave may or may not be hurt. Does Anderson think he's Belichick?
WTF is going on in Madison. I almost agree, let some of the youngest guys play and take your lumps. That was the worst display of QB play I might have ever seen with the UW offense (yes, I said EVER). If Stave wants to transfer (I like that theory btw) then good. go.
Now you have Coach saying the receivers rang rong routes and the receiver coach saying they didn't??
JFC the honeymoon is over Anderson. Get your **** together.
