Or not:

Many players are very territorial about their jersey numbers. Usually the issue gets settled, sometimes with a large cash payment, and that's that.

Cornerback Tracy Porter, who is best known for sealing Super Bowl XLIV for New Orleans with an interception return for a touchdown, didn't seem to want to give No. 24 to Raiders teammate Charles Woodson. This has been an ongoing story and it didn't seem like anyone was joking about the matter. Porter signed with Oakland first, got No. 24 and really didn't want to give it up. He wasn't handing it over even though Woodson spent eight seasons wearing that number with Oakland to start his career, and he's Charles Woodson.

So when Porter tweeted out the news that No. 24 was handed to Woodson right as Raiders camp is about to begin, his bitterness seemed pretty authentic.

That might not be a bad strategy.  Tell them to work it out in private or I (as HC) will.  And if it comes that, neither will have #24.  My bet is they will work it out.  But I'm not betting my salary - just to be clear.

Numbers are a personal thing with players, but come on...  We're talking about a HOF football player here.  I think he has earned the right to wear his number.  Woody will make it right though I'm sure.

Everyone has 'rights' these days - I get it.  But no matter what the number is, it is the same player in it.  And he has been away from Oakland long enough for it to not make much of a difference what number he has - IMO.

Woodson speaks about the Rodgers/Jennings saga. About 4:30 in says referring to Jennings "I read some of the comments that have been thrown Aarons way...& that hasn't been my experience with Aaron Rodgers."
