If I'm not mistaken, the Giants won this world championship with the lowest winning regular season percentage in the Super Bowl era (.5625). It may be the lowest ever. Anybody have any stats on that?

I know no other team has won a world title after losing 7 games in the regular season, but I'm having a hard time finding any stats on lowest winning percentage from the 14 and 12 game seasons for the eventual champions...

Only two teams with 9-7 regular season records played in the SB prior to yesterday. Arizona in 2005 and the LA Rams in 1979. Both lost but had a chance to win.

I can't find anything about winning % prior to 1978 when the schedule was moved to 16 games. But I don't think any team won a SB with a winning % that the Giants had yesterday.
Yup. How about that?

Someone pointed me to Wikipedia's NFL History pages, and it turns out that, prior to yesterday, the lowest regular season winning percentage for the eventual world champions belongs to (drum roll, please) the 1934 New York Giants who finished the season 8-5-0 (.615) and beat the Chicago Bears 30-13 for the NFL Title.

You may now go back to your regular programming.
