Once again my picture clarity is shit. Have a brand new Samsung tv and excellent connectivity. Use YouTube tv …they’ve been trying to upsell to 4HD or some such thing. Would they really blur my broadcast to upsell? Have had zero problems with sports until now.

When it comes to US soccer pedigree the only other guy I can think of is Kyle Rote Jr, and his dad played in the NFL.

Can someone explain all the yellow cards? How do they play England with the chance of having to play with only 10?

You start off with 11 players regardless.  If you pick up two yellow cards during one game, the second one is the equivalent of a red card, and you're ejected.  It's sort of like the NFL personal foul thing nowadays or NBA technical fouls.

However, most leagues, and the World Cup, also have a thing where if you pick up a certain number of red cards over a certain number of games, you'll get a one-game suspension for the next game.  At the World Cup, it's getting two yellow cards through the quarterfinals.  They don't want a player to pick up that second yellow card in the semifinals and be suspended for the final.

That having been said, the referee did seem to have a rather uneven day.

Don't yellow cards carry over to the next game in World cup?

Yes.

If you pick up a second in the first round, you are ineligible for the next game.

If I recall correctly, cards are erased going into the knockout rounds.

Yes and no.

If you pick up one yellow card in the first game, and one in the second game, you get a one-game suspension for the third game.  You're not immediately ejected from the second game.

As I said, the yellow cards are also wiped away after the quarterfinal, so if you pick up one in an early game and one in the semifinal (assuming your team makes is that far, which is not bloody likely for the US), you're not suspended for the final.
