It's been a while since I've done a dumb poll, so here's another one.

If you were Packer GM Ted Thompson, would you call the Cleveland Browns and offer them a first round draft pick for Joe Thomas?

Do not take into consideration whether or not you think the Browns would do it. I just want to know if you would make the effort? Thomas has been in the league 6 years, and he's been a Pro Bowler 6 times. He's played in 100 games, never missing a start.

So, with the health issues we've had on the offensive line, would you make this aggressive move to protect Aaron Rodgers' blind side? Thomas would likely be there for the remainder of AR-12's career.

Not going to happen:

1)  We can't afford his contract:  5 years left on an $84 million contract.  We have too many other guys coming up (Raji, James Jones, Shields,Finley) to spend that kind of money

2)  Packers believe they have other offensive linemen option next year and beyond.  For example, Bulaga is returning next year and he is under contract until 2015 with Packers only owing about $7 million on remaining contract.  Sherrod is still an unknown.

Had to vote 'no', 'south.

2-4 years ago would have been ideal, IMHO. Now, I'd be too worried about his long-term health. 6 years is a fair amount of wear, and there's more potential for downside than there is upside.

As an aside, I had a thought recently:

If (and, of course, that's a BIG if) we could actually have all of our recent OL picks healthy and available, we could have a line very similar to SF, possibly with better depth. Not saying they all would suddenly be All-Pro, or that it would instantly solve all OL problems for the forseeable future, but that's a lot of talent that's never been available to the Packers at the same time.

I would say no. He's a great player, will be in the HOF if he keeps going like he has been. However you're not just trading a 1st round pick for him. He's in year 3 of an 8 year, 80.5 million dollar contract, about 52 million left. With his contract, you're essentially trading a 1st AND Raji AND Shields because there's no way you keep all 3. You also have to get rid of some other OL, probably Bulaga and Sherrod.
