As a #3 for a year to see if he has anything, why not? If, by very remote chance, he pulls his head out and could turn in to something with good coaching and not having to play he'd be a nice, tradeable asset. If not, he was a scrub for a year or so who would sign cheap or stay home. At worst he'd be Ronnie McAda. Supposedly he showed up to mini camp in decent shape (although that's probably relative).
Hersch, respect your opinion. But I'll tell you why not. The dudes who run the Packers' personnel develop their own QB's and historically have wanted nothing to do with busts with potential. That may change but I've never seen anything in the Pros that leads one to believe that Russell is a hopeful project. It would also not be cheap, I bet.

I love your open spot for number 53. BW, a wild card, a Sherman-like number two punter, a third fullback, maybe a second long snapper...endless possibilities.

NOTE: This post was in in fun as was this thread.

NOTE PART DEUX: I'd be fine with a reclamation project like Russell in the vein of Akili Smith or Tim Coach. There are many on here that think that M3 is the McGruber of young QBs. If that is truly the case, then the club should be like a used car shop. Pick 'em up, fix 'em up, sell 'em high.
How does picking up everybody's has beens, problem children and aged vets worked out for the Redskins lo these past 10 years?

The Packers place a high premium on how a guy fits into the chemistry of their locker room. Bringing in turds does nothing but back up the toilet. TT & MM are well aware of this.

Pacman - no.
OffMarcus - no.

I would much rather have our coaching staff working with guys who have potential and want to develop it rather than picking up guys who have tremendous potential but have pissed it away as soon as opportunity knocked.

Just dip the toe in and pick up one...just one. It could be the best of times or the worst of times but exciting nonetheless...

Is it not impossible for a guy who has pissed it away to still have tremendous potential and still want to develop?

Charles Woodson
Ryan Pickett
Brandon Chillar

Any of these ring a bell? We have picked up some cast-offs but they have to be the proper fit for the team.

We don't need a veteran backup QB so just knock it off and stay in the Brewer forum (sorry Bong)

What I'm trying to say (and I'm not sure whether you wanted clarification) is that I'd rather have our coaches working with a Pizzotti who has potential and desire to make it than to pickup a guy who had/has tremendous potential, like OffMarcus, but got a big pay day and didn't/doesn't apply himself.

Impossible for OffMarcus to live up to his potential at this point? No.
Likely that he'll change his ways? Doubtful, he's rich.

I'd just rather put the coaching effort toward a deserving candidate.
