With Harrell, not likely.

We're fishing now folks not cuttisng bait.

If Rodgers goes down the Packers are toast regardless, but I suppose Young's an interesting reclamation project as, unlike Harrell, he has more upside than one of us as well as being a better scout team read-option prospect.

FIFY

I would say this is the case for most teams.  What the Packers (and most teams) need is someone that can come in for a series or two, a quarter or two or even a game or two because the starter is injured and not lose.  The Packers have enough talent on both sides of the ball to pull out some victories if Rodgers were out.   But I don't think they could afford to lose him for any length of time.

MM is being smart.  Even if there is some disgust with the lack of progress of Harrell after the investment they've put in him he will never show it.  It is in his interest to maintain his reputation of developing QBs that might need some schooling.  Kicking them on the way out does not serve that purpose nor will it do anything to attract those with raw talent to come.

WILDE: Should’ve known better

When it came to Harrell, there were always more explanations for the lack of shining moments than there were shining moments themselves. And I was as guilty as anyone.

He was always playing with substandard wide receivers, or behind an offensive line that stunk. This year, there was Marshall Newhouse whiffing on John Abraham for a sack/fumble against Arizona. There were the drops by D.J. Williams and Tyrone Walker in St. Louis. There was Jermichael Finley failing to hang onto a would-be touchdown Friday night.

To his undying credit, Harrell was never the one making those excuses. Just the rest of us.

Do you remember anyone having to make excuses for Matt Hasselbeck when he was doing his annual Mr. August routine behind Brett Favre in 1999 and 2000? Do you remember anyone having to make excuses for Matt Flynn when he was clearly outplaying Brian Brohm in 2008 and 2009?

No.

The truth is that as good as McCarthy, Clements and McAdoo are at developing quarterbacks, maybe they did all they could with Harrell. Perhaps he’s at his ceiling. Sure, he signed too late in 2010 to get a full offseason program, and the lockout wiped out the 2011 offseason – more explanations. But he had plenty of work last year and this year, and in Vince Young, those same coaches have a more naturally gifted player with real NFL experience (31-19 as a starter) to work with. continue

They did what needed to be done.  Crosby is next.

ANY POSSIBILITY AT ALL......

....that the Packers did a "wink and a nod" with Harrell and said they want Young on the team to practice against the 'read option' for the first couple of weeks??  And then when Vince shows he's not really grasping the Packers' offense, the cut him loose and bring back Harrell??

Any possibility at all???

Probably not.
