LOL, the way they listed Brad Jones as "out" after he played the whole game last week is such a transparent ploy. By doing it this way, they can have Barrington and/or Lattimore play, and then if they suck, they can just put Brad Jones in next week without looking indecisive or wishy washy. They're not willing to stick their necks out and take a risk, and less willing to admit they were wrong if it fails. I'll be rooting for those guys, and I'm glad it's happening in some fashion, of course. I hope that at least one of them can prove to be an improvement over that steaming pile wearing the #59 jersey.

** edit **  Jones was limited some during TC with the quad, so I don't think they made up an injury. I do believe the extent of the injury may be exaggerated.

A few of the Packers beat writers had 1-on-1's with McCarthy today. I think it was Wilde that said he asked MM if he benches players and McCarthy basically didn't answer the question. The quad injury to Jones gives them an out for his poor play. Either he flat out sucked and they can now go with Lattimore or Barrignton and never look back, or if either of them aren't an improvement they can say Jones was slowed due to the quad.

They most likely will play Lattimore as he has been the primary backup at both spots. The fortunate thing for him is that we are playing a predominantly running team without a threat at TE. A team like New Orleans or Denver would eat Lattimore up with their TEs, but he's not going to be tested as badly as he will the next two weeks (Detroit and Chicago).

Last time I remember McCarthy benching a guy for poor play was that week 14 matchup against the 49ers in San Francisco back in 2006. KGB just got destroyed by their OL on a play and allowed a 70+ yard run to Frank Gore, and from that point on, Cullen Jenkins took over at DE on the early downs and short yardage situations. Instant improvement, and the Packers defense improved immensely from a statistical standpoint over the remainder of the season. KGB also was able to become an effective pass rushing specialist when used in that role. Sometimes one move can make a massive difference. He also benched Colledge earlier in the year and replaced him with Tony Moll. That year was a rebuilding year, and I'm pretty sure he hasn't had the guts to bench a guy for poor play since then.

Although I do find it kind of funny when you're possibly weaker/thinnest at defensive line he supports fielding more of them. It's a bit of picking between arsenic and hemlock.

Watching Letroy Guion attempt to play NT last Thursday made me very, very sad (a combination of seeing him getting dumped on his ass every play and remembering what Raji was doing in the preseason). It was arguably worse than what Brad Jones did.

The 4-3 plan included Raji and utilizing Peppers/Neal/Perry in dual roles between DE and OLB. This is one of the problems with Thompson and McCarthy... their back-up plan (i.e.  QB last year) is not always sound. For a team that develops a lot of depth in some areas they are translucent in others. Similarly when they kept 5 TEs and the OL depth was pathetic.

Jones played poorly last week, no doubt, but I wonder how much of his poor play revolved around his injury?  It's convenient and actually smart for the Packers to use the injury as an excuse for being out this week.  I don't have a problem with that, we all know what's actually happening.  It sounded like MM thought Barrington was going to make the leap this year, he's the one that should be getting some PT.
