When does the NFL draft take place?

The first round begins Thursday, April 29, starting at 7 p.m. CDT and probably wrapping up somewhere around 11 p.m.

Rounds 2 and 3 will begin at 6 p.m. CDT Friday, and the final four rounds will begin airing at 11 a.m. CDT Saturday.

Where can I watch it?

The NFL draft will air on ABC, ESPN and the NFL Network, and the ESPN coverage will be led by first-time host Mike Greenberg, along with Mel Kiper Jr. (of course), Louis Riddick, Booger McFarland and reporters such as Adam Schefter, Chris Mortensen and Suzy Kolber.

How late am I going to need to stay up to see the Packers pick?

Naturally, it depends.

The Packers have engaged in draft-day trades involving a No. 1 pick in each of the last four years, so nothing is set in stone. It's pretty unlikely the Packers will make any moves that involve the top 10 picks, but who knows after that?

As point of reference, the 29th pick was taken at the following times over the past five years: 10:48 p.m. in 2020, 10:40 p.m. in 2019, 10:19 p.m. in 2018, 10:21 p.m. in 2017 and 10:24 p.m. in 2016.

So if the Packers stay at 29, maybe set that nap alarm for 10:15 p.m.?

The last five guys taken at No. 29 were...

(Ooooof)

2020: Tennessee, Isaiah Wilson, OT (Georgia). He was traded to Miami in March after a tumultuous year with the Titans, one that included just one game on the field. He lost time with a couple stints on the COVID-19 list, was arrested for a DUI, then got suspended and tweeted (before deleting it), "I am done playing football as a Titan....no further comments."

2019: Seattle Seahawks, L.J. Collier, DE (TCU). He played 11 games as a rookie in a season shortened by injury but started all 16 last year, finishing with three sacks and four tackles for loss. He made a tackle of Carolina's Cam Newton on the 1-yard line to seal a 30-25 win on Sunday Night Football early in the year.

2018: Jacksonville, Taven Bryan, DT (Florida). He has appeared in all 16 games each of the last three years but has only been a part-time starter and hasn't been a difference-maker. He posted half a sack last year and 18 tackles after a more productive 2019 when he finished with two sacks, five tackles for loss and a forced fumble. With a number of new defensive tackles in camp this year, Bryan will be competing to keep his job.

2017: Cleveland, David Njoku, TE (Miami). This one leaves a mark for Packers fans, since it was Green Bay's initial draft position before trading down and surrendering a chance to draft Watt or Ramczyk. Njoku has been limited by injuries in his career but does have 11 career touchdowns and 1,279 receiving yards on his resume. His best and healthiest season came in 2018, when he started 14 games and caught 56 passes for 639 yards. Last year, he started only five games.

2016: Arizona, Robert Nkemdiche, DT (Ole Miss). Once the nation's top recruit, Nkemdiche saw action in 29 games over four years but didn't play in 2020. His brief career was hampered by injuries and discipline issues. The Packers selected Kenny Clark two picks before this one and came away with the clear-cut better defensive tackle.

It will be quite a feat if the Packers can find a way to stun us even more than they did last year with those first 3 picks.  I had never heard of AJ Dillon, after a shaky start, he made that #2 pick look much better by seasons end.

The #3 pick Deguara, I hated the pick, but was impressed in the short stint he did play.  It sucks that he was hurt pretty bad after looking like he could be a good prospect as an H-back/TE.  He may never be the same unfortunately.

As for the #1 pick, well if you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything at all so I’ll just shut up now.  ðŸ˜€

Wow. Schefter reporting that Rodgers has told Packers that he doesn’t want to return to the team.

@AdamSchefter: Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers is so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team, league and team sources told ESPN on Thursday.

He doesn’t want to return, eh?

Get ready for the biggest trade in NFL history tonight.  As in the Packers getting the biggest haul/return for a player in NFL history.  And if true, that Rodgers wants out, the team can wash their hands of the situation and not take the PR hit.  That’s a win win folks.  Packers can reload instead of rebuilding and Rodgers can go somewhere else and take his chances.

Sources: Rodgers doesn't want to return to Pack

Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers is so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team, league and team sources told ESPN on Thursday.

The Packers are aware of his feelings, concerned about them and have had team president Mark Murphy, general manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur each fly out on separate trips to meet with Rodgers at various points this offseason, sources told ESPN.

"As we've stated since the season ended, we are committed to Aaron in 2021 and beyond," Gutekunst told ESPN. "Aaron has been a vital part of our success and we look forward to competing for another championship with him leading our team."

Rodgers has not budged this offseason, but neither have the Packers, who have made it known they are not interested in trading Rodgers anywhere.

The San Francisco 49ers called the Packers on Wednesday night, a source told ESPN, and the Los Angeles Rams inquired about Rodgers in January before they traded for Matthew Stafford.

The Packers quickly dismissed the Rams' overtures, the source said.

The Packers have offered to extend Rodgers' contract, sources told ESPN.

Rodgers is unhappy for a variety of reasons, with some of it dating back to last year's draft when the Packers didn't inform him before trading up to draft a quarterback with their first-round pick. Some took this as a sign that his days in Green Bay could he numbered.

He also is at a different point in his personal life, having recently gotten engaged to actress Shailene Woodley. Rodgers also has hosted "Jeopardy!" and said it would be a dream to become the full-time host. He could play football and host Jeopardy! together.

Rodgers has made cryptic comments about his future in Green Bay, but he has told others that he does not want to return.

On draft night, the Packers' biggest issue isn't who they land, but whether they can keep the former NFL MVP.

Rodgers' contract contained a $6.8 million roster bonus due in March. It could have been converted into a signing bonus that would have freed up more than $4.5 million in salary-cap space for this season but instead it "vested as scheduled," a source told ESPN at the time. It's listed as an automatic conversion in Rodgers' contract but even that has to be signed off on by both parties. It's not known if the Packers tried to convert and Rodgers refused to sign off on it, or if they did not attempt a conversion.

Budge? He already has a contract, and apparently they offered an extension.

If these reports are true, Rodgers is becoming a petulant twit, IMO.

If it is offered,  Gutekunst would be foolish not to take the haul that could be bigger than the Walker and Williams deals combined.

There were rumors of teams offering 3 #1s for Watson and Wilson.  And players.

Realistically, Rodgers should net them more than that and if true- that he’s unhappy and teams are lining up to get him - they are in the drivers seat and have to pull the trigger.  Rodgers is a once in a generation talent, but this is a once in a generation opportunity to reset.

If Rodgers does leave, will others go with him? Davante has not been re-signed, yet. Would Davante walk? Love is our only back up QB, isn't he? Is Love ready to lead the team? I 'd bet not. We let Boyle go to the Lions and I could have lived with him as our QB, for a while. Did Rodgers drink from an old Kool Aid jug that Favre left behind? So many questions, and all this on Draft Day. Yikes!

Packers couldn't take much salary back as his dead cap hit is more than his actual cap hit.  It'd have to be a player on his rookie deal.

At this point, just trade him.  I get it, Rodgers is great and the Packers have a better chance of winning a Super Bowl with him than without him.  But if he doesn't want to be here, don't make him.  This kind of stuff is going to continue to come out so just trade him for 3 first rounders and a young player on his rookie deal, and send him to Denver or Oakland.

Maybe they could trade Davante and Rodgers to Denver and get back 3 firsts, a second, Noah Fant, and Jerry Jeudy.  Start the rebuild this year and hope Love is the real deal.
