I agree GD. The pick had me scratching my head, and most "experts" had him going around 40-45, but I trust the staff that drafted Jaire.
Initial reports from OTAs is he sure looks the part.
More positivity
Stokes signs his rookie contract with GB:
If he were as good as billed, he would have signed a veteran contract.
Lots of positivity around for both Rollins and Randall even after their rookie year. Optimistic about Stokes but may want to tap the brakes a bit.
After going through King, Randall, Rollins, Lee, Carroll, Thomas, Edwards, and Vinson, I've tempered my expectations for high round CBs drafted by this team. Let's see what happens in the regular season before we think we have two lock down CBs.
Herman did a "deep dive" video on him after watching each of his college games. Said his only concern is that he seemed to spend a lot of time on the ground.
I keep reading he doesn't know how to put the brakes on his speed. Wonder if that's why he's eating turf if he's making hard adjustments.
him and bubba franks, that dude had 2 left feet. lol - i am stoked about stokes; don't think he has the same problem.
Bubba tripped over the 10 yard. line!
Pretty clear after the Niner game that he's the second-best corner on the roster.
Clydesdale
Stokes looks good, but heβs also going to face much better offenses with much better QBs (and WRs) than he has the past two weeks.
Deebo Samuel is no slouch.
Jimmy G is.
Yeah, I don't think we need to qualify anything about Stokes so far. Other than he's a rookie and expect more flags. There's just no way around that with a rookie DB that plays aggressive.

Iβm not questioning Stokes ability. Or his play in his brief NFL career. But heβs still an unknown. Heβll have tendencies that better QBs and most DCs will find and try to exploit. And then it will be on him to adjust/improve. Thereβs nothing wrong with βqualifyingβ any commentary on on rookie after three games.
Ha Ha, D. Randall and others rooks have looked impressive after a couple games too.
The thing I like about him is that he is already stronger than King & Ha Ha, and they've had some years of pro weight training that he hasn't, speaks to his work habits and dedication to his profession. I also like his demeanor.... King & Ha Ha don't seem to love football & Randall was uncoachable, Stokes appears to be in neither category.
He's also got a swag about him. Very confident in himself. Not sure if that comes natural or is Jaire is rubbing off on him.
Thrilled with this start:

Stokes seems to have an extra gear for recovery that Kevin King doesnβt have. His combo of length and speed seem to be above average for an NFL CB. That gives him a fighting chance to stay within striking distance of all the fantastic athletes playing at WR in the NFL these days when heβs in coverage.
Heβs going to get beat now and then, but he seems to have the athleticism, build, and competitiveness to be the best complementary CB to Alexander weβve had in the past 4 seasons. Hopefully he can stay healthier than Kevin King has.
Yes! His recovery on that deep ball down the right sideline against Chase(?) was impressive. A step and a half slower and that's a TD. He turns his head and looks for the ball and that's a pick. Really great to have a CB with that kind of speed.

Wow, that's a lot of targets. A SMRT team would have targeted King that many times.
Sorry I cut it off, thats his stats through the first 5 games not just the Bengals game.
They donβt have Kings stats up yet for this week it looks like but his first two games have, surprisingly, not been strong.

1. DL Kenny Clark, 80.3
2. LB DeβVondre Campbell, 79.3
3. CB Kevin King, 76.2
King gave up only 17 yards receiving into his coverage and had two impressive tackles resulting in stops before exiting the game with a shoulder injury.
Thought King played well yesterday. That's really his career in a nutshell- (when available) his play ranges from very good to horrible, often in the same game.
Or that when he's playing well it inevitably ends with him exiting the game with an injury.
And king is reportedly hurt again.
King is far from the $ 6 million-dollar man.
To be fair, part of Kingβs money comes from being active on game day, he loses about $15K every game he misses. Also they tacked on 4 dummy years, so really theyβre paying him $6M over 5 years. Heβs just under a $2M cap hit for 2021.
We all feel so much better now.
Is Richard Sherman going to be active this Sunday? Has he ever performed well with a shoulder injury?
In his rookie season, Jaire Alexander allowed 662 yards on 461 coverage snaps.

Eric Stokes has allowed 350 yards on 349 coverage snaps.
They both have 1 interception and 6 pass breakups in their rookie seasons, and Stokes has a lotta season left.
Playing well and the best (healthy) corner on the roster.
Stokes has progressed a lot faster than I thought he would and apparently most other folks as well. Jerry Gray = good hire.
Also been getting good pressure consistently, which helps. With the losses at OLB we may see a little more focus on the secondary.
This guy is quickly becoming one of my favorites.
It's gonna be fun watching Stokes, Alexander and Douglas at some point this year.
