OG Sean Rhyan: Scouting Report

Ryan is a three-year starter at left tackle in college, and he has the ability to play either tackle or guard at the NFL level, which is a valuable skill to have. Just like most offensive line prospects, he comes in with great size to handle the physicality at the line of scrimmage. Rhyan struggled with penalties during his college career and will need to work on his technique to create more leverage over his opponents. These are areas that can be improved with NFL coaching, and we’ll see how Rhyan’s talent will translate.

POSITIVES

— Stout, thick build throughout his frame with above-average play strength.

— Shows good pop in his hands and grip strength to jolt, displace and feed defenders laterally on double-teams, plus compress, seal and pin defenders on down blocks to create lanes off his backside.

— Has the core and lower-body strength to brace, with impressive stopping power to anchor quickly against the bull rush.

— Takes solid angles up to the second level to intersect and disrupt pursuit angles

NEGATIVES

— Adequate athletic ability, lateral quickness and ability to redirect.

— Struggles to adjust his aiming points and connect against post-snap movement from shifty defenders, resulting in persistently lunging and getting beat clean across his face on kick-out blocks.

— Limited range in pass protection results in his hips turning too early and feet crossing over to protect the corner against speed-rushers, leaving him susceptible to getting beat inside across his face.

— Looks to have middling arm length that allows defenders easy access to his chest to stack and press him off of blocks.

Like him as a prospect, though would have rather grabbed Myjai Sanders. In a rare, very good edge draft, Gutekunst has thus far ignored the draft's strength at a premium position that doesn't happen very often.

If only we had 47 picks...

In the long drought of Packer 3rd round picks nary a one has been an offensive lineman.

Here's hoping Ryan breaks the streak.

I think he will. Guy's a good prospect and seems to have a high "floor".

This is a dude that spells "Shawn" without an H, and then puts an H in "Ryan". Are we sure he is bright enough to learn the playbook?

Sean is the Gaelic spelling..  You can't even put a space between 4 and Farve.   Pot, meet kettle.

That's a great point. I haven't seen a dude lookin' so Gaelic since I went to see Bravehart.

But, you might want to use the zoom feature of your browser to more easily distinguish the obvious space in my name:

For your information, he is now a Caramel deLite.

Samoas are now “Caramel deLites.”
