Newman at RG is talented,  but light in the britches and he got pushed around a fair bit his rookie season. I'm guessing Royce's been on a feed lot over the winter.
Gute wants girthier OL vs the dancing bears of years' past

Meanwhile, this dude Rhyan is pre-beefed and ready to move some DL .
Makes for a great TC battle and MLF said they'll give Rhyan a swing at RT in TC too.

Royce Newman played a lot of snaps as a 4th round rookie in 2021. (Didn't say he played them well, but he played them).

Now, with Newman playing so poorly at right guard that he was benched for Jake Hanson who proceeded to get injured, there is still no hint of rookie Sean Rhyan getting any action anytime soon.

If Gutey traded his 2023 3rd round pick for a couple of 5th rounders would any Packer fan object?

Found on the internet: Speaking of third-round picks, the Packers' Sean Rhyan was the only player drafted in the third round last year that didn't play a single offensive or defensive snap in the 2022 season.

I don't take too much from this. There's pretty stiff competition at the primary backup positions, and with Daktari returning to full-time duty, it squeezed 'em all a little tighter.
Of course, that didn't stop Tom...

Seriously, it's disappointing he couldn't beat out Newman, maybe even Runyan, but I don't know that's any cause for alarm.

This kid played 450 college snaps and only gave up 1 sack. He was First Team All Pac 12 OT , as voted by conference coaches, but was never considered for playing time when o-line was in shambles at start off the seaqson? Red flag.

Royce Newman stinks, we've seen it now for 3 years, and he is not going to get better.

Bottom 5 PFF scores from last night's game.

1. LG Royce Newman: 42.7
2. WR Dontayvion Wicks: 51.4
3. RB Aaron Jones: 54.5
4. TE Luke Musgrave: 54.8
5. TE Tucker Kraft: 55.3

Newman gave up five pressures, including a sack and a quarterback hit, and was the team’s lowest-graded run blocker.

Rhyan was a 3rd round pick last year and supposedly showed some promise during camp.

In this year of experimentation, why the H can't Rhyan get on the field for some run ahead of Newman?

Is he really just another 3rd round bust?

He is actually getting worse. Stenavich and Butkus are idiots who insist on throwing the same useless crap out there for reasons only they know.

There is absolutely zero chance this guy is worse than Newman.

Why is he on the 53 if you're not going to let him play....

"Wellll..... somebody has to be inactive."

Now that Runyan is injured at RG, maybe it is time for them to play Rhyan, there. I hope Jenkins is okay to play at LG, so we can end that Newman nonsense.

Royce Newman is one of the worst O-Lineman in the NFL.

What's the worst that can happen?? Sean Rhyan is just as bad?!?!? I honestly don't even understand why Royce is on the team.

If it's true, MLF is going to run the ball....and if you CAN'T run the ball vs the Raiders then you suck, Sean Rhyan needs to start. Period

This offensive staff has been decidedly incorrect in  the past choosing the correct offensive lineman.

Either RTFB, or generate offense by using the quick dink & dunk passes for 5 yards at a clip to move the sticks.

Is he not watching what Shanarat has Brock Purdy doing??

Get the ball into your playmakers hands. GASP!! Maybe....just MAYBE Aaron Jones will break a tackle.

Before the hammy, it should have been in the game plan to get Jones the ball the same amount as McCaffery

He didn't look like he was super-steady after that big hit last night. I thought he got up as quickly as he could just because of his reputation and wanting to stay in the game, despite his looking a little shook.
