There were a lot of distractions that year for that Virginia team including the shooting deaths of 3 teammates.
Part of it may have been that Wicks saw three of his teammates (one hadn't played in a year) gunned down in front of him, and he was hurt himself in the shooting. That was just in November 2022, so it had to mess with his head the rest of the year. He's also not the fastest guy, but he's not super-slow either.

I don't know if Wicks was hit by gunfire or not. The reports just said he and another guy were hurt, but the other guy was shot in the stomach. He survived. I assume Wicks got hit, but don't know where.

I don't think he was. The injured players were Marlee Morgan and Michael Hollins. Wicks missed his last 2 games as a senior due to injury but it is not listed. Those 2 games were Nov. 5th and 12th so not related to the shooting. Can't find any info on what the injury was.

Hey Ammo, I couldn't find the name of the guy who was minorly injured, but It's not totally clear if iWicks was also injured or if he was even there or what. In some articles he is mentioned as being hurt while in others he's not mentioned at all. This one gives a good recap of what happened and it mentions Wicks as being hurt. I could not find Marlee Morgan's name. Another source said another football player on the bus called the coach, but doesn't mention who. Hollins was shot and had to undergo at least two surgeries.
During the second Bears game last year after his second TD, Wicks said he cried a bit because it was the birthday of one of his friends who died but that's all he said about it. At this point, it's probably something that he's not going to talk about other than honoring his friend, and if so, it shows his character for a young guy to not milk it for attention.
Either way, tragic situation.
Imagine how good Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks would be if they were 1st round picks.

Wicks throws left handed??? I would bet that MLF was hoping once the throw was made to Wicks, opposing players would start to make their way there so that there might be fewer players for Jones on his side of the field. It still worked.

If they were first round picks, fans might be disappointed with their performance. And GB would somehow have had to get another first round pick. Also, GB was busy repairing "De Fence" - can't sit on de fence until you have one. Finally, GB would have missed out on LVN. Watch out what you wish for.
