MN Packman

Yeah, I loved Hugo's. Unbelievable steaks. Been there a few times.

Haven't been to the Queens in a while because I haven't been able to win. Might have to give it another try.

Enjoy the snow everyone!
I am having my bachelor party in Vegas May 19th-22nd Big Grin We are starting to make some plans... There are 7 guys going!

I have been to Vegas many times over the last couple of years and seen many things Eeker

I was doing a search to find a good night club where all of us could have a good time and see some lovely young ladies, without going to a nasty strip club "Per the future Mrs. Favre2Walker" cry

So I found this... Has anybody been here? If so what are your thoughts? Also any other ideas?

Bikinis Club at the Rio!!
Never did get around to posting a trip report on this thing. You guys wouldn't believe what happened. (Long, long story)

Anyway, just decided to move the annual January trip with my father to February.

We are going to go out for the Superbowl. Never been there for the big game, so I am excited to see what it is like.

Anyone ever go out for the Superbowl?
Rampart Casino is not on the beaten path but is really nice and attached to a couple of nice clubs and an Irish bar.

If you want the weather and gambling but with better payouts and a more laid-back scene, check out the CasaBlanca resort group about an hour North of Vegas. They have three casinos and other stuff and you can drive up through the gap in to AZ and ID if you want.
Not sure if you heard this yet edge but the Westward Ho and a couple of other Casinos on that end of the strip were sold. I know the HO went for something like 500 Million Eeker Anyways the word on the street is there is going to be condominiums going in to replace the casinos!

I have been out there for the Super Bowl a couple of times and it is amazing!! It doesnt matter where you go most Casinos have a ballroom and put out a huge spread of food and offer all you can eat and drink during the game!

Have a great time!!

Actually, I was there last October. Played a lot of poker. Sucked in the tournaments, did OK in the ring games. I made about $200 overall, $100 from poker and $100 from the games you shouldn't play.

Went to Death Valley for a day, I was with my parents. We rented a car instead of taking a package tour, expenses for the day were under $200 compared to $450-$600 for a tour, depending on which one you signed up for.

I was really stunned by the SILENCE in Death Valley. It was like being in a sound proof booth. Very unusual to experience, even in the rural areas of Wisconsin there is wind and background noise.

No drunken orgies or dancing girl escapades to report.

Vegas is perhpas getting too big, I stayed at the Sahara and it seemed like a dump compared to the other places and the Sahara is a significant chunk of real estate.
Now that Wynn's new joint is open, expect redevelopment on the strip to move north. First the Frontier, across from Wynn, and then the others. Either torn down or completely redone. The Ho is a dump but I still like "old" Vegas and there isn't much left anymore, even downtown isn't the same.
We were there last weekend over thanksgiving. Parents and sister(s) took our 4 kids so wife and I could gain some sanity. With her busy season ending and the new one fast approaching, and me starting up my consulting business we have been under a lot of stress.

It was great. Just us two and her sister/husband. Stayed at Harrah's played elsewhere most of the time.

Usual time at Casino Royal playing black jack and craps. The craps table was unbelievable on Thursday afternoon...$5 table of craps. I know very little except bet on 6 and 8 and a few others. Kind of watched some of the others on how they were betting. My brother in law was even more of a neophyte.

Anyhow, this one guy starts rolling...and I mean rolling. He rolled straight for 42 minutes. I'm not kidding you. We got to the table around 1 pm as the wives were sitting down for blank jack next to us. During that time frame the casino changed dice on the guy 12 times/would not allow anyone new to the table after 20 minutes/took all our names/where we were from/etc. The guy was so hot he was calling his number numerous times. He'd call a 12 and hit it. We just kept our money on the 6 and 8/pass/don[t pass line and hit big for a $5 limit table. After he finally shook 7 the entire table walked away almost immediately. The wives wanted us to leave a little earlier, but we just said wait until this runs out. On a $5 minimum (by the time we were up, we got "gutsy" and started laying $10 lol and letting it roll many times) table we both walked away with over $1,000 dollars each. The roller? I don't know, but they took him and his wife to another room with the casino people around him. We think he was around $20,000 with the number of big chips and unreal bets he won. When we walked out it was only 1:50 pm, and that was the only game we played.

It was great.

My father in law who plays craps almost only, said the best he ever saw was about 15 minutes.

Believe it or not, the record is 3 hours and 45 minutes at the California. If you go down there they have something on the wall telling the story. I worked with a guy that was on the crew.

I think you're mistaken about changing the dice 12 times. Most casinos change dice at regular intervals, usually every 8 hour shift. I've never heard of any casino changing dice in the middle of the hand.

Probably the only reason anybody asked for your name was to get you on their mailing list.
I've been out to Vegas about 50 times when I lived out in Phoenix. In my opinion if you have been out there before I'd stay downtown. It's less crowded and less touristy plus the gambling is better (table games are less expensive). My recommendation is to stay at The Golden Nugget first, Binions Horseshoe second (if you can get a room), then Fitzgeralds. A great place to eat for cheap, but has excellent food, is the coffee shop at Binions Horseshoe. Best soup and burgers anywhere that I have found in Vegas. The best quesadillas in Vegas in my opinion is that cafe at the back of the Golden Nugget. I really like their food there. If you want to venture to the strip from downtown I would rent a car in Vegas. A taxi ride from downtown to the strip can run up to $15 each way. With the competition for car rentals out in Vegas you can rent cars as low as $19/per day with unlimited mileage. Plus with a rental car all you have to is park at a hotel's valet lot and all you have to pay for parking is just to tip the guy who parks your car at the valet lot (I usually tip anywhere from $2-$5). I agree with the Westward Ho's lunch counter where you can get a foot long dog and a beer for something like $.99 (it's been a few years since I have been out there).

Good luck to you in Vegas! FYI I got married in Vegas. I got lucky at gambling that trip but not in the long run I wasn't lucky in marriage. Big Grin

Anyone been out to Vegas lately?

I went up Thanksgiving week, all week. I stayed at the "The Orleans" $18 a day until Thanksgiving weekend, then it jumped to $138 a day.
I didnt care for the casino at all. It was kids to the left kids to the right, kids screaming and running all over. I didnt care for the card room. It was what I call a locals cardroom. If the dealers dont know you, you arent going to win. I sat for 2 hours and never got a good hand to play. So I left and never went back. The locals were winning hand after hand. Poorly run card room too.
I really like the Wynn. Its high class, the money flows freely. People dont think twice about losing $200 or more. I saw guys with fists full of $100 bills.
I was gleefully taking it from them at Holdem. They are poor players. They paid for my food and et al. Top of the line waitresses, all 9's and 10's
The workers treat you like royalty. Its all Sir and mister, very respectful.
I also like the Mirage, its very homey. Very good waitresses mostly 8's and 9's
I liked the Treasure Island pirate show.
I was going to check out the Palms for their Holdem show.
But I was doing so good (making money)at The Wynn, I stayed there 90% of the time.
It was very crowded, all over The Las Vegas strip when I was there.
I play 85% Holdem, 10% Craps and the rest slots.
I took home 11 times the money I took with me, minus the food and room. I drive up when I go.
When I was driving North to the Wynn, I saw a water fountain show to my left, but I forgot what casino it was. This fountain is about 100 feet long and it squirts water in the air to music.
I saw a few shows too. Top notch shows. I especially like Cirque de Sol.
All paid for by winnings.
For Holdem I would recommend any book on tells. Works great.
On Craps, I am always good for 2 numbers. 90% of players cant even get one.
I find all these stories of Las Vegas really interesting. I used to fly in and out of there on a regular basis going to and from NTS. I used to stop in at various casinos when I had some time to kill and all I ever saw were hoardes of old ladies with plastic cups full of coins sitting at the slot machines. I quickly came to the conclusion that the "fun" Las Vegas image was all hype courtesy of the local tourist bureau. I guess I was wrong and need to try again.
Neither I, nor my wife are gamblers, but we like to dine and take in shows.

Some years back when they had "Annie" showing, I asked one of the Casino Presidents that I had met through someone else to get me front and center seats for the show.

He did that and asked me if I would like to have a guest join me and my wife. Of course, I asked who and he said the mother of Annie. Naturally, I said that would be great. She appreciated our invitation and made the whole evening even more enjoyable with her conversation and interesting stories. In case anyone is wondering, as I did, her daughter had black hair. We headed out after the show and I completely forgot to ask her to introduce us to her daughter; darn it!

We were fortunated to have seen Siegfreid and Roy several times before the career ending accident and the show "Mystere" is one of the better ones we have seen in Vegas. I'm uncertain if it's playing at this time, but if it is on, it's very entertaining.

This time of year the weather can be cold, so the water park will be closed, but if the weatherman cooperates, golf can be an option and there are some nice to very nice courses which will tests the skill of the most avid players.

If you believe that, you shouldn't be playing poker. And it's going to be locals mostly during the week.

If that is true then you should quit your day job.
Took my first trip to Vegas in early October for my bachelor party. Had a great time, there were about 10 of us and we had a nice big suite at the Flamingo. Played very little there other then laying a few bets at the Sportsbook (got lucky and was able to play the packers on a week they won vs. NO). Had my best luck playing blackjack at Barbary Coast, my best man and I went on a great run where he started with his night's "last $20" and ended up with well over 200. And that doesn't even include everything we were tipping the dealer along the way. I know the Poker players here think that blackjack isn't the best bet, but if you stick to basic strategy you can at least tread water for a long time and maybe get lucky, and I had a blast meeting different people from all over the country at the tables. Binion's wasn't as lucky for me, had fun though. As far as places to spend a LOT of money...I think Club Paradise topped that list... Smiler

Depends where you go and what you gamble. As you can see, there are lots of people here who like to spend time downtown for any number of reasons. Me, I really disliked downtown and don't want to spend time at blackjack tables with such low minumums that some/most of the people don't know how to play. Nothing worse that watching some idiot hit a hand (or stay on a hand) they shouldn't and watching the cards play out to save the dealer.

Vegas is pretty varied -- there are casinos for the young and old, casinos for people who want kids around and those who don't, casinos for people gambling with more money and casinos with low miniums. It all depends on what you like -- the casino is there for you you just need to talk to someone familiar with the area.

I spent a long weekend at Mandalay a few weeks ago and did very well playing -- and they took care of me very well, so I can't complain. One of the few times I walked away (or more appropriately, ran out of time) up, and it was a blast.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/193211243X/104-5975525...33?v=glance&n=283155

I had to do a little Christmas shopping, and picked this up.

I just started the book, maybe am a chapter or two into it.

After reading about this super cool swauve David deMonmollin, I wanted to know who he was. I knew I remember hearing his name before, but couldn't think of where.

Then I read it is a guy from GVR and is featured on the show "American Casino".

I was really hoping it wasn't the guy who I thought it was. It couldn't be. That guy is a complete tool. Just a dork, about as smooth as exlax. But sure enough, it was him.

So, I have a little bit of a hard time buying some of his stories. BUT, I won't let it ruin the overall value of the book. I'm sure he has some inside tips, but I just can't buy the fact that this guy is a player.
That's interesting. Just reading the book he seems to have a lot of good tips. So he's a total dark, huh? Like a meathead? Or just a loser with no game? Never would have guessed reading the book.

What do you think so far?

I just bought one a minute ago after doing a price search. It is 10.10 total price at this ebay site. The sell has a large transaction record so I see no problem.

BEST PRICE FOR THE BOOK

Just a dork. I mean, DORK.

If you get a chance watch "American Casino" on the Travel Channel at 7 PM (central) on Wednesday night.

So far the book is pretty good. I am enjoying it, but I had to get past the author.

Thanks for the tip.
Just finished the book (literally).

A very good recommendation.

A lot of great tips in it. I had a hard time thinking about the author as some sort of slick guy, but when he got to the reviews, I let it go.

Will work as a good reference guide to have with you to glance at to make a decision to eat, etc.

I'm starting to get pretty excited about my trip now. I've never been out to Vegas for the SuperBowl, and I'm pumped.

I think I asked earlier, but I will ask again. Has anyone been out to Vegas for the SuperBowl before?

Alright, now I fell like a bit of an ass.

I emailed David with a couple of questions.

He responded with more than enough details, and went on to invite me out to Green Valley Ranch for lunch and cocktails.

I told him I couldn't set up anything this far in advance, because we don't have any timelines. We just gamble, roaming from casino to casino.

I told him the day we were planning on heading out to GVR, and he said to just pick up a house phone and ask for him.

He also invited us to a Superbowl party, but we will probably go to the one at the Flamingo.

I don't know whether I will call him or not. If I really like the place, and think I might stay there sometime, I will. But it is like 20 minutes from the strip. Who knows.

Has anyone ever stayed at Treasure Island (TI)?

I think when I go out in May, I am going to give it a chance. Looks like a young crowd and a lot of fun.

Anyone?
I will never go out for Super Bowl weekend again. 95% hotel capacity for the city, and I think only about 2% knew how to gamble. Poker player's dream, I'm sure.

Anyway. Took a night flight. Jumped off the plane and headed for baggage claim, when I see a group of cheerleaders blush holding a sign with our name on it for the limo the Flamingo sent.

This really got me in the Vegas mood.

Immediately hit the craps table and ordered a drink.

2 days in and I really dug a hole for myself. Decided to slow down a bit and make little hits.

My dad had an hour roll which brought me back to life. Unreal. I've never seen so few chips in front of the box man at a craps table. Everyone was having a blast making money at the table, drinking, hollering, high fives, just a good time. By the time he sevened out, I had both rails filled with chips and I would say only about 15 of them were red. By the time the roll was over I realized I probably had about 7-8 Rum n Cokes.

It was late and I was buzzed, so I figured I better go to the cage and cash in. Just as I was turning away from the window I hear a scream and see a little Asian woman literally fly out of her chair. Then I see him. A very inebriated, very little midget, with a beer in his hand driving one of those little rascal scooters.

Eeker

Heading right for me. At the last second I was able to do a half assed side step jump, but it was too late. He grazed my leg and crashed into the cage.

As I did my little sissy jump thing, I swung my arm around and hit him in the head with my rum and coke. I don't know if it was my swing, or the jolt of the collision, but the little guy was ejected off of the scooter and got tangled up in the velvet rope dividers in front of the cage.

Immediately the tiny reckless driver jumped to his feet (still tangled in the rope) and starting poking me in the chest telling me he was gonna kick my ass.

It seemed as if the whole casino stopped and was watching. Stunned. Silence.

I just bursted out laughing. So did the rest of the casino (except for the aforementioned Asian lady who was cursing out the guy).

It had to be a scene, man. You got a drunk midget driving a scooter, losing control and hitting a chair at a blackjack table causing a little Asian woman flying, rebounding and almost taking out me, hitting the cage and getting ejected.

I'm about 6'2" and 220#. This guy maybe came up to my belly button. I couldn't help but laugh. It had to be an unbelievable scene. Anyways, security showed up and had to literally pick him up and drag him away. (Took 2 guys, tenacious little bastard).

Little Asian starts threatening a lawsuit on the casino, etc. BS. They asked (with a smirk) if I needed medical attention, but I declined. I did ask for a copy of the security tape, but they told me they couldn't do it. That sucked.

Bet the Steelers -4, and the first half under of 23.5. Also bet DJax to score first at 8-1. I was pretty pissed at the phantom PI call.

Flight home, Chad Clifton was on the plane. I walked by him and mentioned to my dad that he didn't seem very big. Joked on the flight that I was going to slap him on the head and call him "turnstyle".

When we landed in Milwaukee, I walked by him and gave a knowing nod (hopefully he didn't think I was gay), and he said Hi.

Glad I didn't call him turnstyle. The dude is huge. About 6-5 and 330. I felt like the aforementioned midget next to him.

Good trip.

Will be heading back out in May with the wife.

Will probably try out TI.
quote:
As for the discussion, I forgot to add that you can get cheaper room rates if you play poker at most of the Vegas casinos (if they have a card room, that is). That's another way to lower the hotel cost.

Thats news to me, I play cards there all the time.
quote:
It sounds like a lot of people like going to Vegas, but were not getting any stories. What's the deal?

What kind of stories?
On the way back from Vegas, I got behind this girl doing 100 MPH. So I follow her about a mile back, doing 100 MPH. That way if theres a cop around, he will nail her before me. We were doing that for 2 hours, (its a 6 hour trip). Sure enough she got nailed. So I slowed to the 65mph speed limit, until some other stooge comes along doing 85, so I did the same with him. Works great I have never gotten caught. Its the Nevada people who go the fastest.
quote:
If that is true then you should quit your day job

I am seriously considering it. My company is expanding an Vegas is one place it will be doing it. Also Wisconsin.
The 2 numbers is minimum. I do that until my arm gets warmed up. Then I roll for a while, then go to the next casion. That way the casino doesnt get too mad at you.
I went to Cesears and rolled for about 20 minutes. I dont like the casino, but sure won a lot of money.
Cesears card room sucks.
I have found not all craps tables roll the same. I have written my own little book about my observations at different casinos.
Some craps tables I would warn people (Fitzgeralds, Circus Circus) not to play. Get a lot of craps and sevens. Something is not right with those tables.
Binions treat you like crap on their craps tables, heard a lot of people complaining about them.
Their cardroom sucks too.
Go to the Wynn for playing cards, craps, lots of players and lots of money. Tables fill fast. Good drink service.
Bellagio card room is good.
Mostly I go to gamble. Entertainment and eating are a distraction.
I go twice a month now. Need a week to recuperate.
When I was at Circus Circus, there a was girl there well endowed and not much was hidden, who everyone said was an actress. She was in her 30's, I didnt recognize her. The casino treated her like a queen. She said she was going to be in a couple of upcoming movies, something about Hawaii, she said.
I didnt care like I said, I go to gamble,
She kept talking and touching me, while I was playing craps, which annoyed me greatly.
quote:
I think I asked earlier, but I will ask again. Has anyone been out to Vegas for the SuperBowl before?

I went this year. Super crowded. Roomrates maxed out. All tables games filled I couldnt squeeze in any where.
So thats when I drove home 100 mph, see previous thread. I missed the first 1/2 hour of the Super Bowl.
I would say only go to Vegas to make your bets, for the Super Bowl. Watch it at home.
Going back out the first weekend in January.

As mentioned before, will never go out during the Superbowl again. That sucked.

I'm getting a little worried because Harrah's sold out to some firm that also got a hold of Barbary Coast and the land behind the casino.

I'm guessing in 3-5 years they are going to blow the Harrah's, Flamingo and BC to build another crappy 'mega-resort'.

I sure hope not, but everything is in place to happen.

Anyone been out lately?
