Rodgers said he wants to play 8 more years. Now that Flacco has his deal, how much for Rodgers? 8 years $180mm ?

quote:

"I've had eight great years there, the last five as a starter," Rodgers told the Green Bay Press-Gazette on Saturday from the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. "Hopefully I can give them another eight-plus years of playing at a high level."

Rodgers, 29, and his representatives will likely wait for the results of Joe Flacco's contract talks in Baltimore. The Ravens quarterback stands a chance at the most lucrative deal in NFL history -- and Rodgers arguably should be paid more than whatever Flacco nets.

Like all NFL deals, the key is how much is guaranteed. Flacco's deal looks huge but remember Vick also signed a 100m contract and Manning a near 100m contract. Neither will come close to seeing that money.

Rodgers has earned the right to be the highest paid more then Flacco. Aaron's a better QB and still put up steller numbers despite that crap OL at times he dealt with.

One thing I do believe Rodgers will keep in mind is that the pie that is the salary cap is only so big. Im not saying he will take some wildly underpaid deal but I do think Rodgers will keep this in mind
5 years, 100 million isn't a bad deal for Rodgers. That's a lot of fluff, incentives, and a reasonable amount amount of guaranteed money. Brees only got 40 million (only?) on his 5 year, 100 million deal so that's really what you have to beat. Sam Bradford and Matt Stafford set the extremes for guaranteed dollars at 50 million and 41 million respectively. Brees got 40 mil guaranteed, Rivers got 38, and Eli Manning got 35. As long as his deal is better than those players, he will get a fair deal. My guess is Rodgers get 6 years, 110 million with 48 million guaranteed. The first 4 years or so his cap number will be in the low teens, but the last couple years his cap number shoots up at which time they will count on him restructuring to reduce that (ala Tom Brady).
So, do they make him the highest paid player in NFL history, or do they do what's best for the organization?

If they don't go high, will ARod balk? Or play down to his contract?

When will we know? I have to get psyched up to either be pissed and call Flacco a scrubbier scrub than he is, or if ARod is paid more, then Flacco will be an ok QB and deserving of what he got
Not defending BSPN, but isn't the difference the amount he earned from the Jets?
IOW, they just may be reporting the dollars he made while in GB.
If that's the case, however, it makes me wonder if any of the other numbers may also be skewed. May not make a difference if a player fulfills that entire contract with one team, but still...

If his $100 million deal was transferred to the Jets and they paid him another $20 million then he received $75 million under that single contract.

So, that'd be.... mmm.... like.... about 8 dollars per interception, then, right? Or am I doing that wrong?
I figured it was just schit-stirring by a content-starved media in the offseason

I'd be surprised if GB wasn't in constant contact with Rodgers' agent, but maybe not...

.

Here are some media comments below (Exhibit A), followed by Rodgers' direct quotes from an interview he did with Wilde in February (Exhibit B)

(Exhibit A)
"Rodgers hasn’t asked for a new deal, and he hasn’t complained about his current contract. A league source with knowledge of the situation believes, however, that the Packers soon will take care of Rodgers.

“It is his time,” the source said.

The source also believes that, once Rodgers has a new deal, it will set a new benchmark that will stand for several years."

note how the anonymous source seems overly concerned with size, while freely admitting Rodgers hasn't said squat

----------------------------------------------------------------------

(Exhibit B)

"...To his credit, Rodgers has never made his current contract into a public dispute, instead using every opportunity to defuse any alarmist thinking about the eventual (or on-going) negotiations.

“Obviously you’ve got to be able to have guys around you to compete and win every year, and we’ll see what happens with some of the free agents that we have,” Rodgers told Jason Wilde of ESPN Milwaukee in February. “When that time comes, we’ll get a deal done. I’m not worried about that. I think the Packers want to keep me around for a little while longer, and I’d love to be a Packer for life.”

Best guess is that Rodgers agent is pissing in his pants because he has the best player in the league and isn't getting max value. So he leaks a bs story to cover his ass in front of his agent peers

That's pure speculation on my part, but there isn't one quote from Rodgers suggesting anything but peace & harmony. Its a non-issue for Aaron, but it makes the asswipe agent look bad so he uses the media to do his bidding
