But the bet here is if they push him, if they force-feed him and don’t bench or ignore him after a mistake, he’ll beat out Davante Adams for their No. 3 receiving job and add an element of speed their offense needs.

Janis has almost every advantage on Adams physically. He’s 2 inches taller (6-feet-2⅞ to Adams’ 6-0⅞) and a little bigger (219 pounds to 215). He’s significantly faster (4.42-second electronic time at the 2014 NFL scouting combine to Adams’ 4.56 seconds) and outperformed him on all combine tests save the vertical jump (Adams’ 39½ inches to Janis’ 37½).

Tough to say- Abbrederis to me seems like the guy most in danger of not making the team, especially if Trevor Davis catches on quickly. But if you can't get open, you can't get open. And if you're on the sideline in street clothes, you can't get open either. Maybe that's the battle of TC to watch?

Pete Dougherty loves himself some Janis!, that's for sure. Although upon reading that article it's clear he's picked up on the kid's weaknesses.

I'll say it again. Janis! has tremendous physical tools but based on what we'd seen in his first two seasons he was sorely lacking in the technique needed to be a good, let alone great, WR.

If only you could cross 83's physical ability with Abbrederis' WR moxie and route running... You'd have a faster, stronger Jordy Nelson.

I stopped reading at "They need to let him botch a play and go back to him for more." If they know he's going to botch a play then they don't need to let him on the field. The Adams hate after 1 bad season is excessive, he's still a very young player. Let's see how YEAR 3 goes now that he's healthy again, it's not like he's still sucking after 5 seasons. He's had 1 good season and 1 poor season that he was injured for much of. Janis has had 1 moderately successful game and hasn't earned meaningful playing time other than that (really he's only seen the field because of injury). Adams had a pretty successful playoff game himself the year before, showing more promise in that game than Janis did against the Cardinals. Adams may keep struggling and flame out, but I have hunch he rebounds and holds his spot. His workout numbers may not match Janis', but he's a better football player.

I think Janis makes it if only as an ST demon, a la Travis Jervey, the would-be Lion King ;-)

And I think he gets more snaps at WR if only as a decoy due to his speed.

To me the fight is between Abredderis and Adams.   Adams was terribly disappointing last year, but the decision (I believe) will be on how each looks this year in camp and how they play in the preseason.

Duhvante has impressed in both ota sessions. Yes that's way early and he looked really good last off season so by no means am I holding my breath.

But im also reminded of the saying "Looks fade. Dumb is forever".

Janis! has to pick up this offense full-time if he's going to be the number 3. And we all know Rodgers anaphylaxis to throwing picks. If Aaron doesn't trust him, he's not getting the ball. Period. And so far, Rodgers is seeking and finding Adams.

So let's see how much attention he pays to the other speedy white boy in TC

Everyone is aware of and loves the athleticism of Janis but that alone isn't a reason to move him above Adams on the depth chart. Players with all the athletic tools haven't been able to figure it out and players of relatively marginal athletic ability are in Canton. A ridiculous piece from Dougherty and he's really developed into quite the Janis fanboy.

Despite what we've seen so far of Jebus he does still have room to develop especially considering where he came from.  There are plenty precedents of GB WRS not hitting their stride until yr3.  That said, Adams has already shown full proficiency as an NFL WR.  He still needs to show consistency and ability to rise to the occasion when needed.  Jebus needs to GET to that level first.

The fact we're talking about these two as a number 3 is disconcerting in itself.

I was thinking the same before the draft as a reason TT might have gone WR in RD1 or 2 if the value fell to him.  Unless Adams and another, maybe Monty, emerge we are running low on top tier talent at the position in the near future.

Adams was a pretty strong #3 as a rookie and showed up twice when they needed him the most (vs. New England and vs. Dallas in the playoffs). The other big factor is that Rodgers has confidence in him. It doesn't matter what any of us think of Adams, Rodgers is there working with these receivers every day and if he says one guy is good and one guy needs to study harder (or whatever he said) then that should carry a lot of weight. If everyone is healthy then we have arguably the most dynamic #1-4 WR group in the league.

He did come up big twice as a rookie and he clearly has the ability...BUT he may have been pooping the bed a bit last year without Jordy AND Cobb drawing the #1 and #2 CB's.  He needs to overcome those challenges to be consistent.  Maybe being healthy is all he needs.

Maybe I need to read it again, but I thought Dougherty was talking about more opportunities for Janis in practice, as in more reps.  Janis is a Rd. 7 project, there's no question about it, so he's got quite a learning curve to battle (and I hope he's putting in the effort to get where he needs to be).  But if doesn't make a jump this year, then he likely will be fighting for a roster spot next year.  His importance on special teams is too great to be a roster cut this year.

Jesus ****.  You can't play desperation sandlot ball as a offensive strategy, which is the one subset Janis made some plays in.  Be a good gunner, STFU.

Well...hells bells...by that standard,  Driver and Jordy did much less than that during their first two years.

Sometimes you guys need me to apply an appropriate bitch slap...just admit it.

No way TT lets Davis go to the PS where he can be nabbed by another team!

Not even if he sucks. TT understands that young guys need time. Regardless of what we think, we will cut some good players this year. Can't keep them all on a squad this talented...talented.

Except Jordy and DD were developing behind a set of established receivers with less playing time.  The field was wide open for Ankles Adams and Janis the Dumb and the best they could do was look like a puss and play 500 respectively.

Keep trolling Oldloaf.

Yeah I get that he was talking about practice, but he shouldn't still be botching plays though. He's a young developmental player, but he's also in year 3. Maybe he doesn't have the savvy to shake good corners or exploit gaps in coverage like a veteran, but he should have the basics of the offense down pat. If a throw to him fails it should just be about timing not being 100% there yet, not blown routes incorrectly adjusting his route.

When the guy is such an "athlete" but is getting manhandled at the line and driven off routes he doesn't understand in the first place it's a little more than not getting reps.

Just accept Janis the Dumb is Bobby Boucher of ST and be done with it.

Early in Cardinal playoff game Janis didn't break off his route in end zone costing us four points. That wS the typical event of Janis's second season. Had an opportunity, didn't make the most of it.

Stop me if you've seen this before: Jeff Janis just caught Hail Mary from Aaron Rodgers. Only this time, it bounced off Sam Shields' hands.

Only June, but that Hail Mary could be important rep. Aaron Rodgers trusted Jeff Janis to go up and get it over Sam Shields ... and he did.
