I like this signing. History tells us that Perry and Matthews will miss games, and Brooks is much more stout against run and probably still a better edge rusher than Elliott and definitely Fackrell. What I like even more is the probability that he brings an attitude to the defense that maybe only Daniels showed previously.
Bishop brought a bit of attitude to the position, but the team really hasn't had a LB that brought the nasty since Wayne Simmons. Fills a glaring need and now TT needs to work on the OL depth.
I'm saying that a lot of people are expecting something out of Fackrell and he's given them nothing. Could that change? Possibly. But dude is getting blown off the ball or run over or both. And it's not like he's been going against starters since day one. That's not a good sign.
What is a good sign is them recognizing their lack of depth and signing Brooks. It's a lot like House that way. Add another veteran that knows how to play and likely give them quality minutes in the rotation.
Had they picked Watt they may still have signed Brooks. Why? That means they could move CMIII back inside and Brooks is there as their top OLB backup - or Watt is for that matter and Brooks could start. All of a sudden that's a damn good LB group.
I'm not sure how long they give Jayrone or Fackrell but the Brooks move clearly indicates they weren't comfortable with those two backing up the starters.
I would like to know how TJ Watt has reached his potential when the season hasn't even started.
So I'll be that guy. I wonder if they don't shift him around between ILB and OLB. He seems stouter than CM3 who's had good results doing the same.
Lol Watt has done more in 1 preseason game than St. Fackrell has done in 1 1/2 years.
Something tells me he'll have a little more impact than 51. But don't let scouts, coaches, stats, and eyeballs get in the way of an objective analysis.
If TJ played in duh $EC and heaven forbid played for UT - there goes the neighborhood.
Rocky Top!!
is this a gif off?
I think this signing means Biegle starts the year on PUP.

HERESY!!!
We're not talking about TJ Watt? Sorry.
I think this signing means the middle of our defense just improved.
Perhaps we won't get gashed in the middle now on a regular basis
Thanks DOM!

By the by, if someone on this board had suggested at the end of last season that Ted Thompson would sign six veteran free agents during the offseason they would have been called nuts by Ted's greatest fans, his greatest detractors and everyone in between.
Something strange is afoot at a Circle K in Green Bay.
Some are speculating who apparently are "in the know" at 1265, that Elliot is being allowed to make these moves with Ted giving his approval but essentially stepping back a bit. Obviously, there is no way anyone will ever admit that on the record, but it at least makes you wonder whether there is some merit to this.
Perhaps it's a test run of sorts for when Ted retires?
Regardless, it's stunning the amount of FA moves GB has made this year.
I wonder if it could be a gradual shift in roles until Elliot is driving the car completely.
Those reviewing all 22 film on Brooks said even last year, his ability to keep up with speedy TE's was excellent. Went stride for stride and was excellent in the middle. What a concept if he can do that here.
When Rapport duffed on a possible second signing by the Packers I immediately thought "OLINE, OH THANK YOU JESUS"!
I think the move had more to do with the ineffectiveness of Elliott and Fackrell than Biegel injury as he's been hurt for several weeks and seemed fairly certain he was going to PUP at the very least. I'd be shocked if he wasn't IRd and hopefully he can come back at some point and contribute.
Bottom line it was a move that had to be made and very encouraged they pulled the trigger. Hopefully they can do the same with another OL.
This makes any production from Bielgel this year just a pleasant surprise instead of of a "Damn"...

Agreed.
Monty Adams and Biegel will be December Christmas presents. That's about the time they will be up to full speed on the D and contributing.
That would make it the hap..hap..hap..happiest Christmas ever!!! Or at the very least a Christmas in the upper 50% of Christmases.
Merry Christmas!
you forgot ****ing
BTW. Below are the 2016 FA signings still on the Packers roster. Some of these will be on the 53, some will not. Just like the 2017 FA signings. Thompson never stops churning the roster.
Mike Daniels is pretty fired up with Brooks in GB. He's a fan of Brooks mentality on defense. Which is pretty much insanity.
There is a video of Daniels taking on 600lbs of a Bronco OL Double team making the rounds. Daniels almost bent in half but he didn't give up one ****ing inch. He held both to a standoff.
This defense needs some nasty.

Apples meets oranges.
All of the names listed above are the young, cheap, undrafted free agent types Thompson has focused upon the past several years.
None of them are like the NFL veteran FAs who have been brought in this season: Bennett -- 30 years old/10 year vet, Kendricks 30/7, Evans 34/12, House 28/7, Francois 30/9, and Brooks 33/12.
GB has brought in a whole different type of FA this year.
Like others have said, he may help harden up the soft underbelly of Dom's D down the middle. What a treat that would be.
One year, $5 mil? Maybe a little high, but doesn't that mean he's off the books after a year? A one-year rental is really different for TT, but if it works out to add some nasty I'm all for it.
When GB wins a few more Lombardis I hope Daniels gets his due. I thought he was just a loudmouth bull****ter. But he's Woodson all over again. A guy that adds more than stats. He's going to make Clark better. And Lowry. And the defense. For everyone that throws Harrell, Worthy, Datone fail you get a middle finger forever. You got everything those guys might have been in one pick.
Exactly Chili.
Like a R1 pick who craps vs a R7 pick who shines, nothing is proven in August that the fans can see.

Yes but Watt's 2 sacks were gimmes, unabated to QB.
I love the Brooks signing! Our top 3 OLBs are already walking wounded. Brooks only played part time role in SF and had 8.5 sacks in 2013, and 6 sacks in each of last 3 years. Bring the nasty on the field, keep clean off the field and we be good.
Ted signs 6 VETERAN FREE AGENTS so far this off-season. He is apparently "All in" as Rodgers suggested after the Falcon boat racing.
The Brooks signing is way better than what the Connor Barwin advocates were pushing.
Rodgers wasn't singling Ted out with "all in"
The coaches better come prepared and bring their best on day 1.
Rodgers wanted that Falcon game in GB. He wants this years title game in GB.
He said "Everyone all in"

Primarily Fackrell. All indications are they were counting on him for a rather substantial contribution and so far he's been basically a zero.
"All in" should include Ted. Glad to see him use all avenues avaible to him at a level not seen before.

Yeah, Fackrell looks more like Shawn Bradley than Shawne Merriman right now. Dude is lanky af still.
*** Fackrell...F*ckrell...total loser. I think the thing I hate most about F*ckrell is that he's not **** DJ Watt.
Welcome to the Green Bay Packers, Mr. Brooks!
I feel a lot better today about the OLB position after they signed Brooks. Would I feel even better had they also drafted Watt? Surely as he's more of a long term solution.
Given the injury history of CMIII and Perry that's my concern as well.
The good news is Ted (or the alien that looks like him) isn't sitting on his hands this time around.
If they can find a way to get another OT that would be Chris Farley type awesomeness. It doesn't mean they have to kick Spriggs to the curb but reliability at this point is important given how close this team is.
Look no further than the long snapper position. It might seem insignificant but they don't seem to be ****ing around.

Teds going ALL IN to win another Super Bowl before he retires, is my guess.
