Milton’s was just awful. He had to have emergency surgery after losing some blood flow in his leg.

Malarchuk’s was life-threatening. I’ve read a lot about it and saw the video several times (old goalie). Malarchuk asks the trainer, “Am I going to die?” And if the trainer had not stuck his hand in there to shut down the bleeding, he would have. Skate blades are as sharp as razors.

It happens I'm in Mexico staring at the Pacific Ocean reading  John Feinsteins new book 'Quarterback'. One of the guys he profiles is Alex Smith, he's been close with no cigar a few times.  I never thought real high of him as a QB but in hindsight I may have to reassess my opinion.  He is/was pretty damn good.  Seems like a good guy too.  Good Luck to him.

I have a colleague from work who likes to jump out of airplanes. Last July he had an "unfortunate" landing (his words) that ended with his tibia poking through the front of his jump suit. He too had infection issues, needing 4 separate surgeries to shave off more bone. They ended up removing 3 inches. He just returned to work part time the first of the year wearing this odd ,scaffold like apparatus. Less than 1" has regrown but he's confident he will be weight bearing on the leg at 1 year and jumping again in 2020.

Washington Redskins team president Bruce Allen is refuting reports that quarterback Alex Smith will miss the entire 2019 season according to Lee Carpenter of the Washington Post.

Allen called the report “nonsense” during an appearance on The Team 980 and said the quarterback’s condition is improving.  â€œHe really is a day-to-day guy,” Allen said.  The Post reported in December that people with knowledge of Smith’s injury and recovery say the quarterback will be able to live a normal life but that the team is concerned his career could be over and is looking for a quarterback this offseason.

While it may be too early to completely predict where Smith could be in his recovery almost eight months from now, the veteran looked anything but "day-to-day" when he attended a recent Washington Wizards game with an external fixator attached to his leg.  The Redskins would be extemely foolish not to explore all options for a viable QB to begin the 2019 season and beyond.

And for all those people that ripped LaVeon Bell for wanting more long-term money and sitting out a year, this is the counter argument. At least Smith got 55 million guaranteed and has already made 146 million.

Bell wanted the guaranteed money. The NBA and MLB guys get the guaranteed money. Only QBs and superstar pass rushers get it in the NFL.
