She was a makeup cover buyer at Amazon. For 366 days. And she owned a red swingline stapler.
My Brother-in-Law did a temp/holiday stint with Amazon and lasted about 3 months. Pay, yes, was decent but he also compared it to what a work detail might be like in prison.
I have another buddy who's kid works as a permanent employee there and feels the same as my bro-in-law does, however, because of his hourly salary being in the 15-17.00 range he now feels he has no recourse but to stay there because he can't find anything else in that pay range without a college/tech degree or training.
I have no doubt the above scenario plays itself out over and over again at Amazon. They will rope you in with a competitive salary, steady work including at times mandatory OT, benefits, etc. But of course what you don't find out is that it's also extremely stressful, at times toxic to work there, promotions are extremely political and you feel very much like slave labor.
The NY Times did a scathing piece on what it's like to be at Amazon. Needless to say, it wasn't pretty.
But as a customer, yep, huge hypocrite here because I love it. As others said, the free 2 day shipping alone makes it worth being Prime.
There are worse jobs
Well, the world needs ditch diggers too.
Points to both of you.
Some of my 401k is in Amazon, Google, Apple & Facebook. The rest is in oil.
I'm hoping 15 more years until retirement.
With Amazon basically starting their own shipping company & Costco doing the "free" delivery thing too ($99 a year), they're going to be very tough to beat
Tdog posted:Goalline posted:Tdog posted:billions of dollars for one man from the blood of his poverty wage employees. yeah, I quit doing amazon about three years ago. I understand why people do, but it's just another monopolistic blight on the planet to me.
You are not doing Murican right. I don't buy anything that's not made by 10 year old Chinese children, and I refuse to buy from any company whose employees make more than 5 bucks an hour.
are you some sort of commie?
I root for the humans, but I'm pretty sure they're gonna lose.
It's not looking good, is it?

Tesla, Google and Apple are my main holdings. Google needs to start paying flipping dividend.
Farmersonly.com, KrispyKream, and Quiznos. I will be working for ever.
Chipotle. One little e-Coli dustup and everything goes to ****.
Sorry. Had to. But sorry.
I'm mostly positioned in hair care products.
I bought big on Unicorn Milk a few years back. Apparently you can milk almonds. Whatever.
That unicorn you were milking, that wasn't his horn
Pied Piper. Middle Out Compression. I'm heavily invested.
As it was explained to me. You can't milk a unicorn. You have to wish it out. It worked for Lucky Charms. So leprechauns are a better bet than unicorns. Lesson learned.
If I come across Leprechaun health care I'm all in.
I'm relying on my collection of Air Jordans, Hockey Cards and Vintage Beanie Babies to carry me through.
I'm also stocking the basement with cartons and cartons of cigarettes for when the corporations take over and we are all poor. Cancer sticks will be the new currency.
And stock in OmniConsumerProducts
I long ago thought Amazon was a bad investment. That much money for a company not yet profitable? Shows what a fool I was.
While I did buy 300 shares of Apple when it was $70, I investigated Chipotle and Netflix long ago because I was spending so much money there, but thought the P/E ratio was too high. Same with Facebook when it was an IPO. How are they gonna be a big profitable company?
Bought a lot of Google, but sold it after doubling money to "lock in profit." A stupid phrase. It's more than doubled from there. Like Warren Buffet says, if you own stock in a company and it's still a well run company, just buy and hold.
Vanguard Index funds have been the non-sexy place most of my money has been parked. Probably a good thing.

That sounds like my wife talking.
"But I have to spend the Kohls cash before it expires, it is free money"
Oh my god were our wives twins separated at birth?? Yep free money and then she complains when she can't use it again when she returns something that she used "her" free money on something.
The more you buy the more you save!!

Keep working on that time machine, bro.
Over 30,000 jobs lost in retail last month. Thanks Amazon.
Lazy millennials.
Wait, that's redundant.

Imagine if I hadn't opened my first wave Kenner Star Wars Figures or the GI Joes with the Kung-fu Grip?
I take that back. A: Why the hell wouldn't a young kid play with his toys?!?!?! and B: those Star Wars figures probably would be/are worth a lot of money these days.
Amazon is buying Whole Foods for $13+ BILLION. The takeover continues.

My husband is an Amazon Prime customer........100.00 a year....lotsa benefits....and Amazon TV. I've taken advantage of that free shipping a lot......
Good to know your husband gets lots of benefits
Rumor is that Amazon is also in discussions to acquire BJs Wholesale Club in the Northeast.
Kroger stock dropped 17% when the markets opened this am. So did Target and Walmart.
one corporation to rule all of retail. what could go wrong? /s
Does this mean I can get my local Wholefoods to ship food to my house? I already order my groceries from Kroger online and pick them up curbside, this could be even better.
"Alexa, order mayonaise, paper towels, tide, drywall screws and some beef jerkey. Oh and some hand lotion"
"Would you like me to place this order?"
"Yes"
It really is that easy. Two days later it's on the doorstep. Free shipping. Cheaper than going to the store. The more items you order off Amazon Pantry the bigger the discount gets. Saves a s**t load of gas $$$. Amazon was already heading down the grocery business before the bought Whole Foods.
Word on the inside is K-Mart and Sears are going under the second week of July. So use those gift cards if you've got any.
Morning news in our area has Alexa Smith on traffic every 10 minutes.
"Let's check in with Alexa for a traffic update"
"I'm sorry I didn't get that"
"We're still monitoring an overturned big rig on the Bay bridge that's causing major delays into San Francisco"
"Would you like me to find alternate routes into San Francisco?"
"Thanks for that update Alexa"
"You're welcome"
Its like that every morning. Always fun to listen in on a conversation whenever an Alexa appears on TV.
