I believe it was Iowacheese who put us on to the fact years ago, that Direct TV are dirty little whores when it comes to negotiating Sunday Ticket prices.

Generally, I’ve been able to call just before the season starts each year and get either a deep discount, get it free, or at least get Red Zone comped (like $120 additional cost generally).

If you’ve been following the news, Direct TV subscribers are fleeing and ATT is looking to dump them. I’ve got to believe this is the last year that you won’t be able to get The Ticket via streaming.

Anyway, because of all this, a few months ago I was able to basically halve my basic programming subscription with them from around $160/month to $83/month—-I had to commit to two years, but the buyout is only 2 months payment.

Called today to “Cancel Sunday Ticket”  And was told there were no discounts on it ....but....they could reduce my monthly programming another $20/month. The $240 pays for most of The Ticket (to be honest, don’t recall what the base price is now) but it was worth the call.

Those dirty little whores are hemmoraging  viewers and need to do all they can to keep subscribers and therefore ad rates.

I’m not an internet criminal like some of you people (TM) so this is the best route I can figure to guarantee the Packers every Sunday.

By the way, I have the satellite dish on my Florida abode and I’m able to stream  Sunday Ticket to my Utah TV’s via app on my Samsung tv ( do the same with MLB TV)

Hope this helps.

I actually cancelled last year after they refused a discount.  On or about Thanksgiving I received an email telling me that I would get the rest of the year for free....I did.  Then on Jan 30 of this year I recieved another email telling me that I will get the Sunday Ticket Max for free this year.  The message says no strings attatched but we shall see.

I just called yesterday and asked for "Customer Retention." I was able to get Sunday Ticket for free and they took off $60 from my bill for 12 months.  To be honest, I was shocked.  One of the keys for getting Sunday Ticket free apparently was they had to cancel it first since it had auto renewed and then the option for free Ticket showed up in the system.  And there was no requirement to agree to a contract.

I have Dish.  They apparently dropped the NFL Network and all the jazz that goes with it.  In years past that would have sent me into a tailspin.  Now I don't give a shit about any of it.

I had a cable tv technician come to the house to find out why my cable reception was so lousy. He ended up replacing the cable from the street to my house as it was 20+ years old and was damaged, by critters or roots. He also put a direct line from the outlet to the tv by removing a splitter that was on the line. Now I get great reception and have a solid internet connection , as well. My router/modem was 10 years old, which is the typical lifetime of one of those, per my cable tech. So, he hooked up a new router/modem my son had purchased and we are off to the races. The tech also told me that I could have gotten a router/modem from Comcast but the new ones will not have the entire cable line up compared to what I have now. I still have to fight the vikings, when they play the same time as the Packers, but in keeping the old system, I do not lose any of the other channels I watch and support. There is no option that will satisfy everyone. Whether it be cable, satellite, over the air or streaming services. I wonder why that is? Money money money money, MONEY!

I also listen to the Packers Radio Network for many of the games that either aren't aired in my area or have game announcers I do not like. Wayne Larrivee and Larry McCarren, in the booth, and John Kuuuuuuhn!!! on the sidelines, is a lot better than some of the TV broadcasts of the games, especially when we play the vikings at their home and they have former vikings and/or big viking's fans calling the plays and doing the color.

The NFLN is terrible. Dumped Directv over a year ago and don’t miss it.

Not to stray too far off topic but I am wanting to dump DirectV  and cut the cord.  Any suggestions on what is the best route?  youtubetv, hulu, sling, etc.?  All I need is something that gets local channels with some kind of DVR capability.  I can live without recording shows but my wife records all her trashy reality shows.

I've got it the same as you. Wifey & trashy Reality shows. Good info in thread below.

I chose YTTV -- unlimited cloud DVR HBO, Skinamax & Showtime & Starz if you want add-ons. Live channels for local news & it seems NFL Network/RZ just announced yesterday. $65 a month not counting add-ons. 3 concurrent streams & multiple accounts allowed.

Killed DTV end of May & haven't had Sunday Ticket for 2 years now. As long as you have a solid internet connection you won't have any issues streaming.

Thanks Boris.  I have a pretty solid internet connection and stream all the time without issues.  I want to avoid getting in to a situation where  I pay for so many add on services I end up approaching my DTV bill.

The ONE reason I have dragged my feet for so long on cutting the cord is not having NFL Sunday Ticket.  Missing the Packers is not an option for me.

Just a thought.  For those who normally depend on bars to watch the games.  There may not be bars open and they may have patron number restrictions.  And who wants to watch a game with a mask on?

You get three streams.  How many kids you got?

More than 3? Plus grandma.

It was always a problem during Bucks games. My 3 boys want to watch the Bucks, grandma wants to watch her shows, wifey wants to watch HGTV and me, well no stream.

Wait, does Grandma watch her shows or her stories? Shows sounds fake to me.

I just signed up for YTTV today. Had been on Sling for a couple of years. They recently dumped NFL Network and a couple other channels and didn't lower their price. Fuck those guys.

We also picked up the "Sports Tier" and man....what a joke. $10.99 & the only channel in that tier worth anything is RZ. They'd have about 3 subscriptions to that so called "tier" if it wasn't for RZ.

It would be much better if they just offered RZ by itself for $5 a month.

Re: Sling....But hey...they "locked in" their already low price for 1 more year. Less content....same great price. Brilliant!!

Speaking of Sling, they have a "free" service that I didn't even know existed until I cancelled. You don't get a lot but, hey, free. I think they bank on movie rentals making them a little $$$ here.

It's frustrating for me...I have had DTV for 15+ years and am looking to switch to something cheaper. The problem is, there are certain channels I will NOT live without, those being CBS Sportsnet, NFL network, FS1 and FS2. While FS1 appears in many standard packages now days, a lot of the others I have checked, either don't carry cbs sports network at all, or it's an one of the more expensive packages and thus not making it that much cheaper than DTV. Or at least not cheap enough to make it worth switching.

I had DTV for 25 years. They weren't staying competitive. They lost 7.5 million subs from June 2019 thru June 2020.

Now I have every channel I need at 2/3 the cost. It's amazing.  If you go the streaming route make certain your ISP is solid.

It would be nice if there was a service with just "premium" sports stations and I mean global sports too.  I could give two shits about the rest of the garbage.

Trying to keep the subscriber numbers up. I think 2022 is the last year of their contract and then they will be bidding against the likes of Amazon. You want to provide good numbers to the NFL for the last couple of years.

Dumped DTV years ago. I get enough mailers from them to keep a fireplace lit for a year. We have Roku TV plus Fubo. On Roku I binge watched Father Knows Best all summer and now we are on to Leave it to Beaver. I think Green Acres is next. Fubo gives me the capability to DVR games when the freakin Giants aren't playing the same time. Couldn't get a stream to work for the Saints game so that was a bonus! Listened to the first half of Wayne and Larry on XM  on the phone. I think Larry told me to turn it off before halftime.

uzzu.tv - I trialed this the opening week of MLB season and haven't looked back.  About $100 for a yearly subscription - all MLB, NBA, NHL, and NFL games.   Only drawback is if you don't have a Samsung Smart TV you'll need to stream on your laptop/phone  and link to your tv, but we have two Samsungs so it works for me.

Very occasional load issues, but not enough that I'd complain about.
