Dekker was the only who had any sort of rythum in the game. What I don't understand is why Bo did not play him until 6 minutes had gone by in the second half? I don't know if Dekker was out of gas or not, but sitting him for 6 minutes to beging the second half did not make any sense to me.

Jackson had a terrible game, along with Bruz. How many times did Bruz throw the ball away?
Dekker ended up 5-13, but without him they were 10-46.

No other Badger shot better than 25% from the field.

Those are numbers you usually see in middle school games.

They really overachieved this year, but this type of game happening again in the NCAA is a real set back for the program. It just confirms what the national columnists think about the program being boring. If you are a high school kid watching this and then hearing the analysts talk about the brutal offensive peroformance, why would you go to play for UW? To be made fun of?
God, I would hate to be made fun of for making the NCAA tournament every year since the mid 90s or whatever it is now.

That is just terrible.

Yes, this team is inconsistent from the field and for some reason had mental blocks from the FT line... but look at all the top teams they beat this season.... its one of those things, this team could play with anyone in the country and beat them, but they could also lose to a large host of teams too. In a way its a microcosm of how the entire NCAA basketball was this season.

I'm not saying I'm making fun of them in any way. I actually appreciate the fact that I can cheer for a program that does it the right way. Ryan gets non-McDonalds all-stars and develops them into good players year after year. I'm also guessing the vast majority of Ryan's guys graduate and are successful in the long-term outside of basketball.

It's just at the national level we hear over and over how Wisconsin is methodical which means to many people boring. We seem to have these types of games in NCAA tournament and that's the lasting impression people have of the program instead of them comparing let's say what Berggren looked like 4 years ago and what he's developed into now.
I think the thing this season will be defined by is the inconsistencies of their Seniors. We all know Dekker, Jackson, Gasser, and this incoming class are going to be the horse to ride for this program, but this season was about the 3 seniors. Today those guys needed to take control, be veterans. Instead, they deferred.

Let that be a lesson to all the guys on this team.

I do think that is a narrative that for some reason has lingered from the Bennett days. I do not think they pay any more methodical that, say, Indiana did under Knight. Or maybe even how Dean Smith teams played. The difference is you don't here that so much when they have a Devin Harris or even to some extent the Kammron/Tucker days. I do think Bo will "open it up" or it will open itself up when Dekker gets more mature and guys like Koenig (and others) come into the mix.

I will also add that for the Badger style of play, the aggressive, physical Big Ten hides their warts 'cause that is way they play in that conference.

It seems like they get exposed in the tourney when they run into styles of play that differ from the Big Ten and I also think refs call games different. That gets covered up when you have athletic talent...and he hasn't had that in recent years.

The bottom line is Bo needs to adapt and I think he has by what I've read about the recent recruits. Knight had to adapt. He brought in jucos (Smart, Dean Garrett) and won a title.

You could not be more wrong here. Just listen to guys like Jay Bilas, Seth Davis, Dan Dachich, and many others. They all said that this Wisconsin team could win it all or lose like they did today. Bo Ryan gains more and more respect each and evey season he coaches. Bad coaches don't finish in the top 4 of the Big Ten for 11 consecutive years.

What puzzels me is why the guys were so tentative today. Jackson 2 consecutive air balls, and most of the rest of his shots were short on the front of the rim. They were out rebounded on both ends of the court.

This program is not done vby any means. It still has a ways to go to be a top 10 team each and every year, but I think it can get there yet.

At least we ain't Georgetown!!!!! Wink
The problem gets magnified when a guy like Vander Blue goes elsewhere.

They have not had a dynamic guard like that since Devin Harris and it has killed them in the tournament where backcourt guys rule.

By the way- Gasser is a solid player but he's no difference maker. The Badgers lack difference makers at the guard position.

As for the Georgetown deal, had this UW team played their opponent tonight they might have lost by 25. Teams with decent guard play have eaten the Badgers lunch for years now.
