There may not be a big name performer at halftime next year cuz it's in New York, err Jersey. Something about setting up and taking down a stage in cold and possibly bad weather is too much. Bring on the battle of the marching bands!
Put somebody on some flat bed semis. Drive them out, do the show, drive them off. See how easy that was.
How about just have kids on the field at halftime of the Super Bowl for the punt, pass and kick competition finals.

But what does Greg's sister think?
Yeah, it'd be nice to go back to a simpler halftime show that's not pimped/hyped all to hell. It could still be sponsored, but no sense in spending $2M when you can spend $10M, right?
It would be fun to see the NFL structure the PPK competitons much like the playoffs; have the semi-finals in the stadium of the home teams in the playoffs, and the finals at the SB.
I'm another that wistfully wishes the marching bands would return to the halftime shows...sigh. Now, the hot set-up for bands back in my day was "The Horse", but there's some college teams that use a Led Zep tune and "Ironman".
Regardless, there's plenty of ways to create a competition of some kind, and have a battle of the bands at the half.
One last gripe:
I'm actually a bit surprised that the NFLPA didn't complain about the length of halftime...unless the players prefer it that way. Perhaps the benefits of rest, adjustments by coaches, and the like outweigh 'cooling off' for too long, but 15 minutes + is just too long, IMHO.

Just as a note of interest. Beyonce earned $0.00. The NFL never pays the halftime talent. They do it soley for exposure and prestige.
The NFL also pays no taxes. The NFL is structured as a non profit.
