I'm calling it right here, right now. Matt Flynn will be traded to Miami. We'll get something like a swap of position in the first round and we'll possibly throw in a player that Philbin wants.
I was just going to start a post on this very subject. I received the "Road to the Super Bowl DVD" for Christmas. I just got around to watching the Eagles and Falcons games. They were getting after it in those games. Lot's of intensity and quickness by EVEYBODY!! Hitting, tackling flying to the ball. They lost Jenkins and Collins and all I saw this year was 9 guys who looked like they had cinder blocks tied to their ankles. Only Matthews and Bishop seemed like the player that was a year ago IMHO.quote:Originally posted by justanotherpackerfan:
I really think the biggest improvement that can be made on defense is to get the players hungry once again. I don't know this...there is no way I could...but maybe Raji, Shields, Hawk, Bishop..even T Williams rested on their laurels a little bit too much last season. I sure hope the way the defense played hurts their pride and gets them to step it up a notch. Like I said, I could be totally wrong...but maybe the same players, just different attitudes, are part of what this team needs.
This thread is titled "Biggest Offseason Decision."It isn't Matt Flynn.
The Packers should get a decent comp pick for Jenkins, no? 4th maybe?
We should get a 4th for Jenkins and a 4th for Colledge I think. Maybe a 7th for Jackson, but that's wishful thinking.
GD, that sounds about right. Including the losses of Jason Spitz, Korey Hall and Atari Bigby, maybe it's a bit more.

Keep in mind you get to keep Finley and lose Flynn for a 4th and simultaneously save about $10M in cash. I'm gonna take Finley and a 4 for Flynn and a cap savings of $10M about 101 times out of 100 if those were the choices.
Didn't they also get a pick for a player they traded before the season started? I think they do not get one for either Quinn johnson or the OL they traded because he was released.
Nothing for Quinn Johnson, who was cut, or Nick McDonald, who made the Pats roster. But do believe they'll get a 6th or 7th for Caleb Schlauderaff, who was traded to the Jets and stayed there all year.

The NFL does sometimes combine the value for multiple lost FA's into a single comp pick, so I could see the combined loss of Jenkins + Colledge netting a single 3rd rd comp pick.

The leverage is Ted saying 'We'll ship you to JAX or somewhere horrible where you'll fail unless you agree to this and your contract that's much bigger than the franchise tag.'
I must really be missing something.
At some point this off-season, Flynn either signs a contract with GB (with the pre-determined understanding he'll be traded to a certain team that he's already agreed to an extension with) or he becomes a FA able to sign with the team of his choice.
TT has no leverage to threaten a trade anywhere.
On edit - maybe you're saying after he signs the franchise tag TT could dump him to Siberia. I doubt a team trades for him w/o an extension so Flynn would have to agree to go there.
The consensus of people looking at the numbers is that the Packers will get 2 4th rounder and 2 7th round comp picks. They will also get a late round pick from the Jets.
They may not get anything for Flynn, that is if the Packers sign more Free Agents then they lose they will get nothing next year.
If the Packers need a starting Safety they will have to look towards a Free Agent, this is an absolutely terrible year for safeties in the draft, about the best the Packers can do in the draft is get a developmental guy at the position.
The draftnick types are reporting that the Packers are scouting hard players with draft grades that range from the late 3rd round to the late fifth. That make sence the Packers should have 5 picks in that range.
I think the way things look right now the Packers should get a starting quality D-line man or an OLB but not both. Those types in the past always seem to go quickly.

Yep - Very simple and basic fact the droolers like to ignore.quote:Originally posted by turnip blood:

Another simple fact is that Thompson does not sign many FA's other than his own, so they are more than likely to get a compensatory pick for Flynn when he leaves as a FA.

I suppose that is a possibility. There is also a possibility that I could win the lottery tonight, if I bought a ticket.
Great Fond Du Arrigo, can I have a 10 million dollar interest free loan? I promise to pay it back.

Draftnik types have no idea whatsover who the Packer scouts are seriously looking at or how they are being graded.
Agree. The vast majority of fans get their information from various draft type websites.... authored by other fans who don't know ****.q
Patty knows, she told me so. She also spends lots of money doing it, so you know shes legit.
So you're saying Patty is

Who the scouts are and who they are talking is reported. I would never track such things but there are people who do. A fuzzy trend can be determined from past and current scout behavior.
The draftnicks do have a general idea (ball park anyway) of were players may fall in the draft. They can be fairly accurate, about 70% right, projecting the top 50 players.
Draftnick get into trouble when they think they know more than they do. And I not sure why they do it,the whole exercise seems a bit boring and pointless to me. But they do it and publish it for free, in the offseason when there is nothing else to read.
Also I can either post here or watch the probowl. I think I rather clean the toliet so I have my evening planned.
Patty once used a condescending tone with me at the Packer war room when I was trying to impress Mike Sherman with my homemade cupcakes w/ sprinkles.
Sorry, no sprinkles...
In one of AR's MVP interviews, he says:
βIβm excited about the near future,β Rodgers said. βWe have a great young team. We probably need to add a few pieces to get back to the Super Bowl, but I have a lot of faith in (General Manager) Ted Thompson and his people.β
I've heard similar things from other players, including the likes of Woodson. While it goes against the grain of TT's MO, I think this is the off season where he adds a few pieces to the puzzle in FA ala Pickett and Woodson of years past.
