Regardless of Farb's silly comments, I'm not so sure Rodgers was ready to step into a championship game in 2007. I've ready numerous accounts of how 'weak' he looked in his first training camp in 05. I saw him at a preseason game vs. TEN that fall. He didn't look any better than Eric Couch at that point, on the field and off. I know he had a complete metamorphosis coming into a following camp (can't recall if that was 06 or 07) but he's come a long way since Cal. Maybe they could have won a SB in 09 (2010) but Farb could have too...

And so he just kind of fell into a good situation.

That's the part that bugged me the most. AR was in a really tough situation. He gets drafted by GB and has to learn from a legendary QB that resented him. He had to follow a legend which isn't an easy thing to do. Then he had to lead the team in that circus that was Favres retirement all while bandwagon fans were calling for his failure.

AR deserves all the credit in the world for overcoming all of this. It's an insult to him and his accomplishments to say something like that.

Because other legendary QBs were so easily replaced in Miami, Denver, Dallas, AZ (and possibly Indy) with no speedbumps. Roll Eyes

Favre and Packers losing SB 32 was end of NFC dominance. Now with Rodgers and Packers + Saints and Philly err others rising along with AFC's aging Pittsburgh and ailing Indy we may see return of NFC who won 3 of last 4 SBs.

Yeah I read the piece and thought he was just rambling on and gave some compliments. I still love Favre though, so I don't read everything like some psycho ex or however you guys see this.

And yet you show up just to comment on this thread? Yes, psycho indeed.

Hello, Henry. Psycho? I come here more than the gazette or joursnal sentinel to get articles. I meant no offense, I'm not a wordsmith.

What was your take?

I also think Favre has always been something of a boob. I doubt he became a dumb athlete because of Mike Sherman.
He definitely feared and adhered to Irv. He feared Holmy too. The Walrus had his big boot in Brent's ass every single day for years. Brent needed that, as MM also realized. After the monster was let out of its cage, though, FrankenBrent didn't want to be held accountable anymore. Apparently he still doesn't.
The idea that Rodgers was surrounded by incredible talent last season is just plain wrong. He had one Pro Bowl player at the skill positions. Brent had stars all over the place when he won in '96. Levens, Chmura, Jackson, Freeman, Rison. That team also had far and away the best defense in the league. I guess bitterness clouds reality.

Well said Mr. Aromatic and it's just too bad. I have always been a huge Favre fan and wish he just walk away and preserve what legacy he has left.
Favre doesn't really bother me anymore. He's out of football and out of the spotlight. He has a job as a commentator for college football, so occasionally things about him, his career or the Packers will be brought up, I'm not forced to listen to him, read about him or really discuss him much anymore. I refuse to listen the some of the same old prognosticators drudging up dumb comparisons and brainless analysis. I've moved on from Favre.

No, but Sherman enabled him to this haughty, entitlement attitude (God complex)

That's for sure. Hey, want me to Sext you?
Like most, I am pretty tired of what will Brent say or do but it is apparent that he now lives in a bitter little world where he is mostly unloved, fans are ambivalent towards him and he is professionally a joke. He was universally panned in his first appearance as an announcer and the interview he gave must have went on long enough that his bitterly angry ego got the better of the aw shucks image he worked so hard to foster when he was a top player in the league.

His little cheap shots at Rodgers, (just like Deanna and the Thanks Ted T-shirt at the first Packer Viking game) demonstrate to me how much he loathes Rodgers. No question AR probably has similar feelings about Brent but is still grounded enough to maintain a modicum of civility.

I certainly hope the scenario someone above posted with AR at the podium of Super Bowl 46 telling the crowd as MVP I fell into a great situation here and I just wonder why it took so long!

They were never 7-6 last year.

They were 7-3 after beating Bert and the Queens.
Lost to Falcons late on a FG after a Rodgers comeback 7-4.
Beat the Niners 8-4.
Lost Rodgers, lost to the Lions to go 8-5.
Lost to the Patriots without Rodgers to go 8-6.

And then proceeded to run the table.
My main three points are:

1)Favre is surprised it took Rodgers so long? Go back to the Arizona playoff game. Rodgers was superhuman, but the defense was a sieve. Place the burden of not winning sooner on Rodgers?

2)Team more talented than any other Favre was on? I think 96 and 97 were more talented.

3)Favre appears to have an axe to grind.
Stephen A Smith just LIT UP Skip Clueless about this. Skippy, of course, sticks up for Favre and brings up AR's "game losing" turnover against Arizona in the playoffs (failing to mention the 45 points they scored, or all of the turnovers Favre had in clutch situations), but Smith nailed him to the wall. He brought them all up, and called Favre "the biggest media whore in modern times".

When it came to light that Favre dished to the Lions about the Packer's playbook before a 2008 game, Leroy Butler commented on a Milwaukee sports talk radio show that this "was just the tip of the iceburg" regarding Brent's antics.

He didn't elaborate. However, he did mention that several players from the 1996-97 teams have held various reunions/get togethers over the years---Favre never attended any of them.

His actions speak for themselves. The Packer organization has moved on and done quite well without him. Too bad the same cannot been said about Farve.

Can't stand any of those ESPN idiots. I may have found a little respect for Stephen A. Smith, though. Didn't Skippy always rag on Favre when he was in Green Bay?

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_...ay-packers-took-long

There is the video of Bayless and Stephen A debating the Favre issue. I feel exactly the same as Stephen A does, and that rarely happens. I lost all respect for Favre with the crap he pulled in 2008 about coming back and have confirmed this many times with comments Favre has made about Rodgers and the Packers. And his 2 yr stint with the Vikings....completely to stick it to TT (and the attention/$$$, too.). He is a huge media whore.

Favre knew exactly what he was saying and how it would be interpreted. He knew he could backpedal by saying he complimented A-Rod, but it was meant how most are taking it....complete sour grapes.

Bayless...total dick since he started in the media. When I was at SMU, he worked for the Dallas Times Herald and has always voiced a minority opinion about anything and everything. And let you know about it. And forced it down your throat. He is as much a media whore as Favre. And well paid for it, too.
