That FB dive on first down pretty much consigns you to second and long. I don't like it on 1st and 10 from anywhere.

100%. Give the ball to Allen on first down if you are going to run it. Chanel's ceiling is 3-4 yards on first down.
Frost definitely found something during film study. Will be interesting to see if Leonhard can get to the half and adjust, but this looks like a Capers mid 2010s Packers defense with guys running wide open through the secondary.

Big plays are always important, but it's not typical of Badgers football that outside of 3 plays, they've been completely outplayed across the trenches by an inferior team. Even on Allen's runs, it was mostly him bouncing outside on plays that were stuffed at the LOS.
Not sure how they missed the facemask call.
So, Nebraska has killed Wisconsin throwing the ball downfield all game and Nebraska calls that series of plays?
Whoever comes out of the Big 10 West is going to get steamrolled by Ohio State.
It's the equivalent of a D2 team playing against a typical D1 team in terms of talent differences.

Mertz wasn't the problem. Pryor dropped a perfect pass that would have set up another TD. Larch missed a short FG.
Even as bad as the defense played, Mertz played well enough to put up 17 points (plus the KO return). He hasn't made any mistakes to cost them points.
The defense has been terrible and Allen only has 9 carries.
Not exactly a great first half by the Badgers. Nebraska has a good defense, but they aren’t a good team. UW is fortunate to be tied at the half.
RTFB Chryst and the defense needs to get after Martinez some more. He’s very erratic and can be turned over if rattled.
