Not a good offensive series. Nine yards on first down and then nothing.
So, if Mertz could have kept from making terrible decisions, they'd be pitching a shutout right now.
Do these refs even understand football? The blindside block call on Allen was done by a blind ref.

I'm not sure Leonard can put together a staff that can recruit. His only college connections are at the UW. We need a huge talent infusion. If he doesn't get the job that will be why.

They are going to have to use the transfer portal to supplement things next year. Of course, a better QB would solve a lot of things. Of course, if Mertz were half of what he was projected by some to be, Chryst would still be here.

The OL is not up to Wisconsin standards, but Mertz has no pocket presence at all and the only think he can do is throw check downs. The problem is that guys that throw check downs usually are very safe with the ball. He's not.

Besides having a scatter arm Mertz has zero pocket awareness. He's going to get a receiver hurt the way he leads them into the defender. Until he's gone Wisconsin really can't move forward.

I think it's all the same problem. He has no field awareness whether it's in the pocket or in reading defenses. The really good QBs have an idea where everyone is on the field and have a feel for the game. Mertz has all the physical tools, but he still looks like a freshman in terms of the mental part of the game. He's been here FOUR years.
What a horrific throw by Mertz. Very lucky obviously.
The MSU defender didn't move the entire play. How can you not see that?
