John Clayton of ESPN by way of Pat Yasinskas reports that the Bucs have made contact with Sherman and are working to schedule an interview in the next few days.

Sherman, 57, most recently was the head coach at Texas A&M and was fired Dec. 1. But Sherman also has extensive NFL experience. He was head coach of the Green Bay Packers from 2000 through 2005 and was an assistant with the team before that. He also worked as an assistant with the Houston Texans before taking the Texas A&M job in 2008.

Sherman went 57-39 in his six seasons in Green Bay and his stint included five consecutive winning seasons. Sherman also uses the same agent as Tampa Bay general manager Mark Dominik, who is heading the coaching search.

As the article states, they have the same agent. It could very well be just a courtesy. By the very fact that he is being interviewed for the HC job, his stock rises and it makes it easier to get his next OL coach job.
He was OK as a coach in the regular season. They did have some awesome running plays. In the playoffs though he was a dud.

Going for 2 when up 8 against San Fran. San Fran tied it up in the 4th quarter because of that.

Chickening out and not going for it on 4th and 1 vs Philly.

His real downfall however was his horrible GM skills and hitching his wagon to the Favre train and letting him do whatever he wanted.
For the record, I was not a huge fan of MM when he came to GB. I thought that the mission statement thing sounded corny and he would never be a great coach. Obviously I was wrong. I also think he has grown tremendously as coach over the years. MM has made me realize how mediocre and insufficient MS was as a coach (not even mentioning as a GM) I have nothing against him as a guy and actually root for him to be successful, but I just don't see him ever amounting to anything but mediocrity as an HC.

MS the GM a total Zero.

Exactly why he failed as a college coach. Recruited poorly.

Tampa needs discipline and MS might work.

Yeah, his defense and playoff record really bear that out.
Sherman's biggest issue is that he stays too loyal to his coaching staff. We certainly had winning teams underneath him, and he should have won the SB, we had enough talent to do so.

He should have made changes to his staff, when they weren't delivering, but he didn't and the rest is history.
HSherman was a smart enough guy and a players coach, but he won't be successful without a good DCoordinator. I think the attitude and culture he wanted to create in GB wasn't that different to what McCarthy has created in GB now. I think MM would have suffered the same fate as Sherman eventually had he not realized his mistakes and hired a legit D coaching staff. Sherman was under and enormous amount of pressure and had no business being the GM...he couldn't succeed as the coach because he was out of his league as the GM. He wasn't bringing in the right talent for what he wanted to do and as a result his teams were all offense and constantly mediocre defense. I think if he can focus on being the HC and use his talent as an offensive mind and his defense isn't awful, he will be successful.

Also, I think Favre is as much to blame for Shermans playoff record as Sherman. He lost games for this team all by himself.

that still kinda goes back on Sherman - he did not hold BF to account and enabled BF to turn into the donna he became.

After all, he did such a great job reigning in .
(Brett).

Not to nitpick but I see this word used in puzzling ways frequently. So here's a clarification, (I think):

RAIN -- what the weather does if you want to play golf or doesn't do if you're a farmer that has planted his crops.

REIN:the steering gear for a horse or other animal, similar to a leash.

REIGN: what a King or Jesus does, not us mere mortals. I'm not quite certain what is meant in the post because I don't know which category the poster has Brett in.
No, Goalline, I don't do that except when I see humor in a situation beyond lack of familiarity with a word itself.

When 'reigning' is referring to the cartoon Favre (as it was) I think there's a little humor lying around, as at times Favre seemed to regard his tenure here as a 'reign' with himself in the title role.

My good friend, consider writing it as "IRC," not "Irc." Surely a man as well-read as you knows to capitalize the letters of an initialism! Furthermore, notice that in American usage it is correct to keep the period inside of the quotation marks at the end of a sentence. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions.
