Torn MCL. Let the Derrick Sherrod era begin. Say good bye to the season

Report: Bryan Bulaga suffers torn MCL

Packers right tackle Bryan Bulaga has reportedly suffered yet another ligament tear in his left knee.

Bulaga sustained a torn MCL in Green Bay’s Thursday night loss at Seattle, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Friday.

According to Schefter, the timetable for Bulaga’s recovery is unclear.

The Packers’ first-round pick in 2010, Bulaga missed all of last season because of an ACL tear.

The Packers could now be left with a decision at right tackle. Derek Sherrod, another former first-round pick, struggled in place of Bulaga on Thursday night. If nothing else, the Packers might have to add another tackle for depth.

The Packers’ next game is in nine days against the Jets, giving Green Bay time to formulate a plan.

So the Packers have had a significant injury on offense (Barclay) followed by defense (Raji) and then two more on offense (Tretter and Bulaga).  I'd say the next significant injury will be on D....maybe Matthews thumb again or perhaps one of the new guys (Peppers or HaHa).

The offensive line, which MM said was potentially the best of his tenure is suddenly oh-so-very thin.

Good grief.

MCL can be anywhere from 2-12 weeks pending the severity, but I can't imagine Bulaga's history nor the team he plays for should give any reason for optimism.

There's reports the team has already reached out to Eric Winston, who PFF graded out as mostly league average with some horrible games last year.

I am glad they spent so much time and effort on studying all their injury problems, hiring specialists, improving nutrition, alternating practice schedules to "fix" the injury problem.  They spent just as much time on that as "fixing" their Defense. Same results. All bunk

Yet MM is so soft on these guys in practice. Injuries are a crapshoot. You still have to practice tackling. Our tackling is so bad, because they don't do it in camp. They need to bring a rugby coach over from New Zealand to coach tackling. It is becoming a lost art in this sport.

I can't imagine the team thought for a second they could prevent contact injuries through urine tests and gummy chews, and I think it's pretty silly if that was anyone else's expectation.

They wanted to prevent conditioning injuries like the lingering hamstring problems - which coincidence or not were a non-factor this camp - and likely get these guys in better shape for the no huddle.

That would probably be awkward for the defensive coaches that one would think were responsible for things like this.

They already have 2-3x more coaches on a team now than they did 30 years ago. Brining over some coach from the All-Blacks and giving him the title "tackling coach" ins't as ridiculous as it sounds.

Packers OT Bryan Bulaga's sprained MCL - (version of tear) - is not considered serious and he "should not miss much time," per source.

"not much time" in GB Packers parlance = 10 weeks.

You mean Brad Jones and AJ Hawk.

He has something to prove.  Bulaga isn't playing tackle for a while either...and Sherrod doesn't look like he's going to get it done without some help.

Unless you don't think this team has strong enough leaders to keep him in line.

It's not like there's no precedent for signing troublemaking d-bags in GB.  It worked out pretty well with Andre Rison.

So again, how does signing someone, even if he weren't a d-bag, who can't play tackle fix the tackle position? "Hey, Bulaga's hurt and Sherrod is struggling so let's sign a guy who can't play the position! Yeah, that'll fix everything!"

That would be significant in a positive way.  I meant an injury that negatively impacts the team.

Rugby and yoga.  I think the Seahawks employ those faggoty practices.

Not completely lost. I saw some outstanding tackling in the Packer game last night.

To bad it was by the Seahags

Yup, the 'hawks can tackle. That was like watching a pro team play a Division III team. They looked like they spent the "off-season" in the weight room while we looked like we spent it on the beach. If pride matters, GB has a lot to prove.

If Sherrod plays the same way against the Jets, I wouldn't be mad if they cut him, sign Incognito to play at guard, and then put Lang out to RT.

The Jets D is nothing to shake a stick at either.  That team has been muddling around the last several years but they can play D and they can run the ball.  Not an easy bounce back game.  Lucky we got 10 days to recover/prepare.

The Jets D has horse$hit at DB. They cut 1 & the other is hurt. The Packers should steamroll this team but don't worry, they won't.

Maybe they get lucky, get a couple turnovers & win on a Mason Crosby 55 yarder

MM just said in his presser that they'll know by Wednesday if Bulaga will be able to go against the Jets.  Also characterized the injury as "not serious", contrary to what was tweeted earlier in this thread.  Of course, given MM's statements addressing injuries in the past, Bulaga will probably be out for a month or two.

You can't believe anything the Packers say about injuries.

I seem to recall Mike McKenzie having an MCL sprain at one point in time and he missed 4 or 5 weeks.   Logically I would think a healthy knee would be more important for a corner than an offensive tackle but who knows?

MM saying he might practice is funny stuff.   That's code for probably a month.

The good news is that barring a major setback or misinformation it sounds like this won't be a season ender.

I assumed Bulaga was on the bullet train to IR until hearing the news that the injury is "not serious" (   ). When under the impression that he was gonna be done for the year, the thought of keeping Linsley at center and putting Tretter out at RT when he "comes back" (   )crossed my mind. What to do in the meantime until Tretter was healthy/eligible to return was an entirely different question.
