After starting 2015 at 6-0, the D rankings were:

3rd in the league in scoring D

15th in yards allowed

2nd in sacks

T-3rd in Ints

T-5th total TOs

Last year the wheels fell off the offense beginning with the DEN game, but what has happened to the DEF? Personnel wise they played mostly the same guys all of 2015, and it could be argued that overall the talent is better on the 2016 D. CM3 back outside, Perry has progressed, and they actually have decent ILB play this season.

Right now, they are:

22nd in the league in scoring D

20th in yards allowed

5th in sacks

T-3rd in Ints

T-7th total TOs

Scoring D is the biggest difference overall from their fast start last year.

Scoring D this year:

When they were 4-2, they gave up 20.5 pts/gm, which over 15 games would be 12th overall now.

During the 4 game losing streak they gave up 38.25 pts/gm - dead last, God that's ugly.

During the 5 game win streak they have given up 17.6 pts/gm - which over 15 games would rank 2nd overall in the league.

I have no idea what this all means, but it's possible EKB is wrong.

Just a little over a year ago (10/27/15) the Capers DEF was near the top in the league.

What happened?

Distant memory how promising the defense was looking last year. Had a dedicated BJ Raji playing his optimum NT position along side a up and coming Mike Daniels. Ted Thompson finally purged the agonizing slop he had at ILB in AJ Hawk and Brad Jones, I liked it when they moved Clay around more, and a huge factor was they had a deep talented and young secondary that was healthy.

Then Dom went full prevent. Guessing he has hurricane insurance on his house in Suamico.

I think losing Raji and the injuries have been hard to overcome.

Whatever the case, it looks like the "boot" lickers were wrong.

That fits, to an extent, the troubles this year. But as I noted, this season defensively was up when they went 4-2, down going 0-4, and up again going 5-0.

What was the trouble last year after the 6-0 start? They lost some lopsided games.

The D had been a safe zone for opposing offenses until the SEA game, as far as turnovers go.  Whether the current trend will stick or disappear as quickly as it came is a big question that could make or break or D.  While they have also shown the ability to make red zone stops when absolutely necessary, that has usually come against crappy offenses.  First big test @DET.

Disagree. When Raji was at NT and motivated, he was significantly better overall than what Guion and Kenny Clark(at this point) are.  Run defense is great, but this is a passing league and Raji pushed the pocket and moved laterally much better than what Guion does.

That said, we saw this defense getting abused, giving up leads, showing a soft middle, etc... even with Raji, Shields, and the poor tackling Hayward, etc....

Time for Dom to go fishing. Let the Badger eat !!

Rollins and Randall have both struggled with injuries all year and inconsistency from a young player isn't either unusual or a cause for alarm, although it certainly is  frustrating. Can't argue with the fact that corner play has been pretty poor, but they haven't received much help from the pass rush. Receivers are eventually going to get open against good corners if the QB has all day.

Agree. it did not help that we don't have Shields and Hayward. The film is out there for our young CB's and have shown other teams ways to beat us. The safety's have been forced to do extra duty close to the line and sometimes becoming CB's to cover for the youngsters mistakes. The raw recruits have to play zone because they often get fooled by jukes and stutter steps. That alone can lead to lost yardage in hope to limit the bigger play.
