Yesterday's stat line:
18 carries for 84 yards, 4.7 ypc (with a long of 9 - so no skewed stats)
4 recpts for 22 yards, 5.5 ypc (with a long of 11)

22 touches is right where they need him to be, yet he feels he's not completely there yet.

Benson: “It’s exciting because I don’t feel like I’m completely there yet as a whole with the offense, with the scheme and everything."

Benson: “We still have a lot of progression and growing to do. And I think this game will build a lot of confidence with every individual."

This quote tells me he is fully bought in to what coach McPawsitive is saying.

Cedric Benson on win, refs: "I think those calls/situations are training us for something to come in the future, preparing a path for us"

Not flashy but he's getting the job done. He finds a way to get positive yards even when there is little to nothing there. I've been surprised by his receiving skills. He already has 12 receptions. Most he had in a season was 28
As weather turns or we face defenses again like the Bores who will play safeties deep and try and take away Rodgers deep routes, all this underneath stuff will be invaluable.

He's not only a solid RB for the Packers thus far, he is WAY better at catching the ball out of the back field, in short routes and screens then I ever expected him to be.

He could very well be the best FA pick up TT's had since grabbing Pickett.
I dont think he will busting many 20+ yard runs, it's not his MO. I think the amount of touches he got was just about perfect this game..

Before we get too excited, we need to remember just haw bad the Saints run D is.. This is a step foreward, but we still have concerns there in my opinion.
Overall I think Benson has been a good addition, however it is obvious he has lost a step. How many times does it look like he is going to break a long run only to get tackled by a shoestring? To his credit, he has done an excellent job at turning likely tackles for a loss into at least short gains. He does have to cut down his propensity of running into his own blockers.
Like the article said, he's a workhorse of a back. I haven't seen anybody run as hard as him in GB since Green in his prime. It's scheme related, but I'd like to see him run more between the tackles instead of the spread runs all the time.
I am not a big fan of that spread play. I know it can work but I like it in smaller doses. The problem is when he cuts it back it looks great but when he does not it looks like crap. I guess you have to run it to know what you have.
I know in plain English or whatever it is that I speak. The improvement in the running game has helped the offense as a whole and Benson has done well and is a significant upgrade at the position.
Benson has been a nice addition so far. Is Starks healthy enough to practice or play yet just in case we would need him at some point? Not saying he deserves a lot of playing time right now but Starks helps the depth in case of injuries.

I keep waiting for him to tell somebody to "Prepare to die!"
I think would should cut the rest of the RB's and bring in anyone, they wouild have to be better then what we got behind Benson. I would love to see Kuhn being allowed to lead block for Benson more!!
I'm getting waaaay ahead of things here, but I wonder what GB is going to do next season at RB? I believe Benson signed a one-year deal. I'm sure he'll be looking for a decent contract and let's be honest, the guy is worth more than his current salary... but how much more?
I'd actually love to see TT break with tradition and spend a higher pick on a potentially dynamic back. Semi-spamming it with bargain guys is only okay if you actually hit on one which so far, he really hasn't. I know McCarthy tends to prefer bigger backs but it would be nice to see an all-around threat in the backfield on a regular basis. Taking a guy higher gives you better odds of landing that guy.
I with you guys who think that Ted might just go ahead and draft a RB early next year.
While the Defense is not fixed it looks like Ted hit on a bunch of Defensive guy who will very good next year. So he might be able to concentrate on Offensive player’s next draft.

Herschel are not the Packers using Cobbs as an all round threat guy? Just that he is to small to be a durable back. So maybe Ted will get an all round type back next year. Then again with the 32 pick in the darft.

I thought that this year, but with the glaring needs on defense, there wasn't the chance. You have to believe next year is the year for a RB with the first pick, especially if this year's picks pan out on defense.

A 30 year old RB ain't gettin much.
Chris Ivory of the Saints is a free agent next year. He'll be 25 and has shown some real ability.

It's unlikely TT looks to FA for an RB but if the draft doesn't yield much value at RB he might consider it.
Lattimore is a Junior this year so there is no guarantee he is coming out for the draft. Overall so far this year he is getting 88 yards per game and 4.78 yards per carry. Good enough for 48th among all RBs at DI-A.

A guy who is a Senior is 5-11, 190lb, Johnathan Franklin of UCLA. He has 139.4 yards per game and 7.49 yards per carry. Good enough for 4th among all RBs at DI-A.
Any RB who has the stock to be drafted in the first two rounds is stupid to not come out the second he's eligible. Just ask Montee Ball how smart it is for a RB to take an extra year of high-volume pounding before getting paid for the punishment your body will only be able to withstand for 4-5 years at best. That poor bastard may have cost himself $5 -10 million for staying in school in a big picture sense.

...exactly my feelings! Best RB we've had since Ahmad. I don't think Starks will ever get back on the field.
