Wow.  I didn't notice the WR on the far sideline that far open on the reply.  I did notice the WR down the middle of the field and it looked like that is where Kizer was trying to go....I don't think Kizer saw the guy down the sideline because he was trying to square up his shoulders and pass back towards the middle.

But still.  Wow.  Someone blew the coverage.  Thanks for sharing.

The incompletion that forced the punt and allowed the Packers to tie. Kizer sees the wide open receiver and it's an easy first down and Packers lose.

This one is more damning for Dom than the WR running wide open. At least the first picture posted in this thread was clearly a case where a player didn't execute their assignment. This play it appears that everyone is where they were designed to be (is the 11th defender on a guy at the bottom of the screen?). You're right. If this is Brees, Stafford, Ryan, etc. the QB walks up the line, realizes they don't have enough guys to cover the 3 receivers to the top of the screen and completes a 5 yard pass against 20 yards of cushion.

I wonder if Ted could draft a "covers the holes in the middle of the field" guy.  That is what seems to be missing from Dom's defenses for all these years.

A speedy, lanky ILB would do wonders for the defense. hard to run pas, hard to throw over. Martinez isn't the guy. Ryan isn't the guy. Joe Thomas certainly isn't.

It would also help if the Packers could keep a CB healthy enough to play in a game. I don't know who is playing CB anymore. Don't recognize the names or the numbers but thought I saw Willie Buchanan back there in Cleveland. He is #28.

This looks to me like the Packers defender just outside the left has at the 43 yd line is the one who blew the coverage. That certainly looks like single high (HHCD) man under coverage. One guy under doesn't have a man.

That ain't the coaches fault. That's whoever that guy is. Can't make it out. Jermain Whitehead maybe?

It was Damarious Randall that blew the coverage on Fitz.  He later accepted responsibility for it.

Of course, Peppers is the one that told Burnett to go down in Seattle, when the path was clear for a long return (if not a pick-6).  However, I recall reading that the sideline instructed the defense to do that should they get their hands on the ball.  Thus, Peppers was just following directions.  Tough to blame him for that.

Rodgers' career is marred with consistent choke jobs by his defense in the playoffs.  What's odd is that Brady hasn't had the same issue.

I remember Randall taking responsibility, but I don't remember why he dropped coverage. In any event, it's Larry Frickin' Fitzgerald. It's like deciding not to cover Julio Jones (which, for all intents and purposes is what happened last year in the playoffs).

The maddening thing about many of the defensive collapses is that it usually is because of scheme - allowing Kaepernick to run for about 400 yards and making no adjustment at halftime to stop it and Julio Jones running wild against a guy that runs about a 4.6 40, etc. Getting beat too often because of schematic problems or coverage breakdowns is what should get a guy fired. It's probably one of the reasons they brought in Capers after Bob Sanders defense gave up 11 catches (most of which seemed to be on third downs) to Plexico Burress in that 2007 NFC Championship game without ever adjusting to the fact they were throwing back shoulder to him the whole game.

The one time the defense really did hold up well in an elimination game was the Seattle Bostick game. Seattle scored on a fake punt and Dom's defense was dominant for 3.5 quarters (until the play Burnett gave himself up on with at least 20 more yards of space ahead of him). Even the OT play they lost on had Tramon with decent coverage that was a perfect throw and catch. That is gut wrenching as a fan, but at least it took a great play to do it.

We suck at soft zone coverages. Confusion abounds...

I don’t know whether to promote Witt for calling the players out or fire him for his coaching. But it is Doms scheme that calls it too often.

If Witt is the guy telling Thompson the Packers don't need players like Heyward and Hyde but they should bring House back, then Witt should be fired.
