How long before Cobb throws an option pass? Wouldn't be surprised if it's in a game plan in the very near future.
Or maybe throws a lateral across the field on a return? Since MM and SS are so in love with trick ST play this year.

Was a lousy writer for the gbpg. Still a lousy one now.
Randall Cobb is just 160 yards away from breaking Ahman Green's franchise mark of 2,250 net yards in a single season.

Crazy stat.
Except Green did it running and catching the ball I'm guessing, while Cobb has done it all four ways. The majority of his yards are from doing all of the kickoff and punt returns. Cobb's a great all around player but I'd rather see more yards out of the backfield by a RB.
And Marilyn Monroe had a zit.
Cobb is the only player in the NFL with at least 900 kick return yards (927), 700 receiving yards (777), 200 punt return yards (255) and 100 rushing yards (132). With 223 more receiving yards in the final three games, Cobb will become the first player in NFL history to reach 1,000 receiving and kickoff return yards in the same season.

You pretty much nailed it, Nerve.
I couldn't stand it, so I had to look up the stats.
In '03, Green had 1883 rushing, and 367 receiving yards, totaling 2250.
Cobb currently has 777 receiving, 132 rushing, 255 on PR, and 927 on KOR. I have a total of 2091 total yards using those stats.
Incidentally, the difference between his rush/rec yards and return yards wasn't as great as I would've guessed (273). I'd like to see his rushing yardage balance out more with his receiving total, but the potential emergence of Green, Harris, and Grant may make that unlikely.
I don't see how we keep Jennings with how Cobb has produced. I love Jennings as a leader and a player but we just don't need to pay Jennings big $$ with the depth we have at WR.
GB can survive without Jennings, as has been stated many times. I think he will price himself out of GB and I don't blame him for it. GB will be just fine at WR with Jordy, Jones and Cobb as the top 3.... which of course doesn't include players TT will bring in.
That said, I'm all for bringing Jennings back if the price is right.

Jones and Jordy can man the outside spots and Cobb the slot.
I love me some Greg Jennings, but he is expendable if he wants too much...no doubt

way to take a stand...ever consider running for officequote:Originally posted by Pakrz:

At what point, AFTER THIS SEASON, do the Packers consider taking KO and/or PR duties way from Cobb??
If he's gonna continue to be one of the "favorite" targets, don't they need to start looking for a new returner? If he gets injured, you essentially lose 3 starters.

I think his days as a returner are over starting next season. He's the #1 target in this offense now...draft a guy to handle return duties in April. Hell, maybe we can get another Cobb with the 64th pick.
I wonder if Harris could learn to be a retuner?
He's got the speed, and his power could work well on returns.
OTOH, a WR draft pick could be made with return capabilities in mind. But, I think it would be nice to use somebody already on the roster, and use the draft at positions that need depth and/or upgrading.

It's what he did in JAX last year.

But, can Harris catch the ball? Referencing a certain WR who couldn't make the Packer roster - his name was Cory Rogers I believe.
Saw some hi-lights of him catching passes out of the backfield in college... also handled some KO and PR duties at Troy.

He's the #1 target because injuries have felled Greg and Jordy this season. But make no mistake, he has #1 receiver skills.
I would hate to lose Greg, and hope that he will take a deal to stay in Green Bay. He's getting endorsements, and he's on a championship team.
The thought of having a healthy Jennings, Nelson, Cobb and Jones next year is quite pleasant indeed.

Yeah, compare that to what the Vikings, Bears and Lions have. Yikes, no wonder we've been dominating the divisional games.
is there any kick returning in Boykin's past?
I'll miss Jennings if he's gone. I just really like watching him play the game and the way he plays the game. But the bank can't be broken on him. He's got to realize that... he's got money and endorsements now and TV world to come, you'd think he'd want to remain a part of this offense rather than cash in and play for the likes of Jacksonville and fade away.

I hope we don't see that again
Part of this is Cobb's ability/emergence, but a bigger part IMO is the time Jennings and Jordy have missed.
@Packerpedia
With 4 more receptions, Randall Cobb would break Greg Jennings' career high for receptions in a season (80 in '08).

Nice...
I remember reading in a practice recap a few weeks ago that Harris and Cobb were rotating at kick returner. Probably just a backup plan at this point, but worth noting that they've kicked the tires.
I agree that Cobb is probably strictly a WR starting next season.

I just read somewhere that Cobb is like 450 yards away from breaking the NFL single season all purpose yardage record. He will need a couple big returns and some solid receiving numbers to break it, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.
