Don't think anyone knows the actual formula, but I believe the guy he based this on is the closest we have to an authority.

I think 4's for Jenkins and Colledge sound about right with 7's for the rest.
AdamJT13 was the guy who figured out the comp system. As the Blog reports he is not currently active.
I love sport writers who write figuring out he comp system is impossible. It tells me they are just repeating what some else has written, Adams JT has been doing this for years and has been just about right every year. He just did a statistical analysis of how past picks were awards and he figured it out. What he did was 2nd or 3rd year College level work not to hard to do.
Here is Adams Blog

did spitz even play last year? i don't see us getting anything for him.

Don't know if he played or now but he signed a multi-year deal last year and is listed on the Jaguars' roster on their offcial site -- along with an OT whose last neme is "Whimper".

10 games, no starts according to cbs sportsline. I don't think it matters if he played - it should only affect the round, correct?
Based off of the information that adamjt13 has provided over the years, I think the Packers will get:

4th or 5th for Colledge (falls right in the grey area)
5th for Jenkins
7th for Jackson
7th for Spitz

More info at how I arrived at this can be found here (bottom of page 1 into page 2):

Also wondering about the Caleb Schlauderaff trade. I'd guess the Packers will get a 7th round pick from the Jets. If that happens in 2012 or 2013 is anybody's guess? Please post regarding this if you have any additional information.

But would any of them be good players?

Good question. But I'm sure TT misses getting those "youngest team in the league" awards.
Here's my $.02:

Based on the last few years it takes at least $6.5M/yr+ to get a 3rd. The demarcation between 4th/5th is generally $4.8-5M depending on the year.

My vote:

4th (Colledge - $5.5M avg) - solid 4th in my opinion
4th (Jenkins - $5M avg) - borderline and could be a 5th but when players are borderline I think performance MAY be a factor - Jenkins was very good so they get a 4th
7th (Jackson - $2.25M avg)
7th (Spitz - $1.75M avg)
...no pick for K. Hall ($1M avg) as the limit for picks is 4. The caveat here is that MAYBE one of GB's other comp picks is slightly upgraded due to this discrepancy...i.e. maybe they get a 6th instead of a 7th for Jackson. Best case scenario GB gets 4, 4, 6 and 7th rd picks.

Picks were announced last week of March '11.

Agreed also a 6th or 7th is on the way for Caleb Schlauderaff...which year TBD.

I would agree. One of TT's few mistakes that I can recall. I bet he'd gladly pay Jenkins the contract he got from Philly, if he knew the market would be that soft.
Great news. I think Cory Rodgers is the only TT pick from R4 or higher to not make it out of camp, so there's at least 6 new players on next year's squad (barring trades.) In addition to the signings.

Too recent. You gotta have your Roosevelt Blackmon, Edwin Watson, and Jeff Fite references.
With that many picks I think we'll see TT package two or three and move up in a couple of rounds. I don't see him doing the opposite and trading down for more picks but you never know. How many draft picks and UDFA's could we even sign.
TT stays ahead of the curve. He'll trade down to the 7th just to draft a bunch of guys that otherwise would be UDFA's. The race to acquire UDFA's after the draft is as competitive as drafting first rounders

High value, low risk if we have multiple late round selections

This year will be slightly different in that the new CBA put a cap on both the total amount teams can spend on UDFAs and on the amount GB can offer any one player

The Packers will still do very well in luring them to town because few teams give the udfa's a real chance to make the roster like GB does
3 to 4 7th rounders. Ted is good at drafting but Wolf was the King of the 7th round. He found more talent in the 7th then he did in the first when he was the Packers GM.
I have seen reports that the Packers have been giving a lot of attention to players that are expected to be drafted in the 4 to 5 rounds. They have been scouting hard d-linemen that are expect to be taken ti the 4th round range.

Not that surprised that the pick for Colledge was a fourth but am very suprised that the pick for Jenkins was a fourth. Thought for sure that one would be a fifth.

Also, as far as Schlauderaff, there hasn't been any "official" reference at all that indicates the Packers will get a 7th round pick in this draft for him. That is purely speculation on my part. They might not get a pick at all. They might get a pick but it might not be until the 2013 draft (or later). They might get a pick for him this year that's higher than a seventh round pick. Unfortunately we probably won't know for sure until the NFL releases the full 7-round draft order.

And as Smedley pointed out, there might be a pick coming for Quinn Johnson too. I'm guessing no but I thought Jenkins' contract would only return a fifth round pick and I was wrong on that one, so maybe there will be another pleasant surprise and Quinn Johnson will net another selection.
GB will get nothing on the Quinn Johnson side; he was traded to the Titans for a conditional pick but the conditions were not met. Titan GM Reinfeldt needed a fill -in at fullback while their lead dog recovered. Titans cut Johnson after the fourth game and he needed to be on the roster for 5 games for the pick to be sent to GB
