Looks like Quarless has not been activated.
@WesHod: Today's NFL personnel notice is out. No #Packers transactions.
@RobDemovsky: So no Andrew Quarless tomorrow vs. Cowboys.
Didn't they have to either activate him, release, or IR him? I thought that deadline was this week? Guess not.
I thought that too. But, if I understand what I found on the interwebs, the IR-DFR rule is that they can start practicing after 6 weeks, and activated after 8 weeks. They must make a move within 21 days of 1st practice, which for Q was ~ 2 weeks ago. So, I think they have to do something next week.
It's Richard Rodgers world now. Sprinkle in a little Ty Montgomery and a hungry Eddie Lacy.
Giddyup.
"hungry Eddie Lacy"
I see what you did there.
Glad to see you back.

I like your spirit and yes, Rogers needs to keep it up. Really though, unless they are willing to change things up schematically to get guys open (which it looks like they are not), what the passing game needs is a dash of anyone who can consistently beat man coverage. Right now, that would have to be Jeff Janis or Jared Abbrederis.
It pains me to say this, but after reading Aikman's analysis, I'm not sure Monty is going to be the cure-all for what ails this receiving corps right now. Word is out on how to defend our passing game, and I doubt we see zone coverage again this year. We need a consistent deep threat. Montgomery ran a 4.55 at the combine and is coming off a high-ankle. I don't think it is going to be him, at least not yet.
This is Janis' second year, and I'd call our current situation at receiver desperate. If he can't learn the playbook now, then when? More than any other player, his failure, or the decision to count on him to crack the lineup, has crippled this team badly.
Troy Aikman couldn't carry Aaron Rodgers clipboard.
True but that's changing the subject! And I don't even think he would disagree. He's talking about the receivers, and specifically absolving AR and blaming them for our problems in the passing game.
And it's not just Aikman. Everyone in the entire country can see our current situation at receiver is dire. We still got a legitimate shot at this even with all the injuries, but somehow, some way, the wideouts as a group need to start producing.
I vehemently disagree with your assessment of Janis.
7th round pick crippling the team???
Let's just say I disagree.
Season starts on Sunday. Watch & see what happens.
Injuries crippled the team. Janis should have been able to pick up the slack and fill the void, and he has not.
So yeah, thus far he has been the biggest failure out of the group, and the group itself has unquestionably been the single biggest failure on the team.
His draft position doesn't mitigate what has been a wasted roster spot.
I am all for underdogs, but when the face of the franchise repeatedly calls you out for mental mistakes and lack of preparation, you are not just an underdog, you are a failure. Keep this in my mind: Our future HOF QB first publicly called him out for mental errors, then all but named him for putting video games before homework. I don't think AR was lying about that, and I don't think he would have said those things if it weren't important, or if he didn't think it could do some good.
Jeff Janis more than any other player has been is in a position to help this team at its most decimated position. Rodgers of all people knows this. It is unfortunate that injuries put that responsibility on the kid, and it is understood that he was only a 7th round pick, but there's no discounting his failure right now. He has simply got to step up and prove he belongs at the professional level, and he needs to do it right now.
Boris posted:I vehemently disagree with your assessment of Janis.
I am certainly not talking about his potential. He is loaded with that.
And you certainly can't be talking about his production, because there is none to speak of.
And no one can dispute the receivers have been abysmal.
The opportunity has been absolutely golden and instead of grabbing it, he can't even line up right. That's not even an assessment, that's just the situation, the truth.
The only other blame could be on the coaches for not leaving him in and letting him work through the errors. But whoever is at fault, his failure is hurting the team more than any other player right now.
And make no mistake: I believe he can do it and hope to heck he does. The team needs his speed to the beat the consistent man coverage we're getting.
Your last 2 posts make more sense.
I thought Rodgers was referring to Eddie Lacy about the video games? Maybe both.
Playoffs begin today. Hope the defense shows up again. If they can't beat the Cowboys, they don't deserve to make the playoffs.
@RapSheet: After an impressive week of practice and a wake-up call, the #Packers believed Eddie Lacy responded well. He’ll be their No. 1 back today.
They need him today big time if the weather reports hold up. Can't sleep on this Dallas defense.
Pistol, you're right, Janis has been disappointing. But he's a developmental project. Best thing he could do in the off season is to hire James Lofton as a trainer (Lofton spent about 10 years as a WR coach after he stopped playing) and learn how a bigger guy with wheels can crisply run routes, beat press coverage and play on the boundary.
Your vitriol is more deserving to be directed at Davante Adams. He's had first team reps for two seasons and hasn't done dick this year. Even Janis with his hiccups and limited snaps has made more plays than 17 has so far. Easily the biggest disappointment on the roster. At least Eddie has shown flashes of dominance. Adams has just plain sucked plus shown a diva attitude.
I'm not ready to call being injured, dealing with CBs that are allowed to grab and hold constantly when we play them for some reason and lack of offensive creativity to create openings in the pass game a diva attitude. Adams, when healthy, is a guy I want on the team. He's had a very rough year but I'm not throwing the baby out with the bath water.
The grab & hold by the Lions defense was very prevalent. Don't understand why it isn't being called.
Don't really care. Start karate chopping the defenders hands away & get off the jam. Do your job!
AR12 will take it from there.
Boris posted:The grab & hold by the Lions defense was very prevalent. Don't understand why it isn't being called.
But according to Queens fans, there is an NFL conspiracy and they told the refs to let us win?
Most important thing I want to see from Eddie is a marked improvement in his sloppy ball security of late. The Packer offense isn't functioning well enough to overcome turnovers.

EL has never missed an assignment in live play or caused a timeout that I can think of. I don't think prep has been the problem with him.

Today
Janis has not contributed on special teams? A wasted roster spot? I disagree. Adams has been the biggest disappointment.
The biggest disappointment for me? It's the O-Line.
The defense has generally been good this season.
Agreed.
Offensive line has had to deal with a lot of injuries. My biggest disappointment is the offensive coaching staff. All indications are that opposing defenses adjusted to the loss of Jordy but that hasn't been evident from the Packers. Really a lack of imagination and creativity on the offensive side of the ball.
Holy CRAP FINALLY!!
MM3 is taking over play calling as of today!

Mike is taking over the playcalling today per Glazer.
Makes sense this week coming off the long break.
Edit:
Scoopage. #packers head coach Mike McCarthy is taking back over play-calling duties today, first time all season

That's true. Made the call early in the week RT @MikeGarafolo: Mike McCarthy is taking back Packers play calling, @JayGlazer reports

About time
That should cause the cowpokes to tremble, tremble, tremble......
Alabama coach Nick Saban told #Packers only way to change Eddie Lacy behavior is take game away from him. Coaches essentially did vs #Lions
— Ed Werder (@Edwerderespn) December 13, 2015
The Glacier moved! Nice.
At this point if nothing else it could help psychologically. Let's get some rythmn back Mike!
I thought I read that McCarthy calling plays was the lynching of doom or some such.
That brutal first half against the Lions might have been the last straw. Crunch time and couldn't go into the home stretch with the offense that dysfunctional.
Brak posted:I thought I read that McCarthy calling plays was the lynching of doom or some such.
Press Gazette has been calling for it for like a month.
Only 2 real differences from last year have been that and Jord the Lord being out.
Pray for Henry.
MM to the rescue.......
just found out that McCarthy is calling plays and I actually yelled "yay" out loud. That's embarrassing and, I think, telling.
So if sticking to the plan means that the play caller can't be the HC... who should be HC instead of McC?
Does this spell the end for Clements with the Packers? Would he resign or be fired? Could Joe Philbin return for next season? I guess time will tell.
Clements and Philbin can hop on S.S. Norvenor and sail into obscurity.

Should have happened 6 weeks ago. We better see some results from stubborn Mike.
