Anyway, it is amazing how long students I've met with so far can hold things in and never talk about them because of how traumatized they are. Afraid no one will believe them, afraid of retaliation, afraid of being ignored, afraid of just reliving that experience while trying to process it. We're only 3 weeks into the semester and some of the shit I've heard is mind-blowing. Way out of my league as an intern but holy shit the things some people have gone through. And some of it from fucking parents and siblings.
Thanks for the work you're doing, Maynard. It is amazing what some people go through and have lived through it. Even now, the stories from some of the kids I teach would blow people's minds.
Working in education for close to 30 years, I've realized for some students, getting out of bed and getting to school is an incredible achievement.
