McCarthy Monday presser tweets

Packerpedia
MM: Good practice, lot of energy, went over self-scouting items the staff identified. Pleased with the practice.

@jasonjwilde
McCarthy calls Bulaga's hip injury "significant." Early diagnosis is no surgery. Final decision on surgery in four weeks.

@jasonjwilde
McCarthy says Bulaga was unhappy with doctors and wants to play, but this is the right decision for his long-term health.

@Packerpedia
MM: Barclay and Van Roten have looked good in a practice environment. They know the challenge that's in front of them if called upon.

@jasonjwilde
McCarthy stops short of actually ruling Clay Matthews out for Sunday vs. Lions. Says will see how Wednesday hard rehab goes

From Ty Dunne blog:
On IR: We're at seven. We'll see how Derek (Sherrod) responds. We'll see how he responds

On back-ups at tackle: Depends on which tackle. Won't say who but we have a rotation in mind.

On So'oto: Good to see Vic. Good to have him back. Looks like he's in good shape. Any time one of your guys leave and has an opportunity to see him, it's good to have him back. Gives us depth at the outside linebacker position.

On Lang at tackle: With a full week of work, he'll be ready to go. T.J. won't keep us out of anything as far as how we game-plan. We have a lot of confidence in T.J.

On Perry wrist: Nick Perry's wrist is more severe than anticipated. Similar to Nick Barnett and A.J. Hawk. One required surgery during the season, one after. It continued to bother him so we went with the second opinion and this was the best route for him. Best in his long-term interest.

Greg Jennings isn't putting a timetable on anything "but hopefully sooner rather than later. The doc thinks later, I think sooner."

@jasonjwilde
#Packers RG @jsitton71 on @ndamukong_suh stomp of Dietrich-Smith: "That’s something that’s in the past. He just better not stomp me."

WesHod blog on Jennings

@RobDemovsky
Best guess if the #Packers lost another tackle, rookie Don Barclay would play right tackle and T.J. Lang would move over to left.

so he'll be back later.
Jim Schwartz Q&A from his presser yesterday.

quote:
That Being Said, The Odds Of This Team Making The Playoffs Now Aren’t Good. Mathematically, They’re Terrible. Your Thoughts? “Our goal is a one game wining streak this week. I think that’s the only thing we can work for right now. We’re going to prepare for this game. We’ll leave the math for the mathematicians and the stats for statisticians. You need to win the next game you play and put a win or loss behind you. The last two Super Bowl winners were 7-7 with two games to go. There’s some math for you.”

I hope he never get's fired.

The Raiders waived Pat Lee today. And he was immediately snapped up by the Lions who waived starting CB Alphonso Smith. Didn't Detroit just bring back Smith 2 weeks ago after cutting him in the preseason?

Regardless, GB will see a familiar face this weekend.
It seems teams like Detroit and especially Minnesota like to sign Packer re-treads as if it will give them some sort of strategic edge. Like Pat Lee will have some inside info on how to defend the Packers. Or what the D does in certain circumstances.

Do the Packers or Bears have any other divisional re-treads?
Can't wait to watch Newhouse manhandle Vanden Bosch all game. Newhouse has improved so much this year and Vanden Bosch is terrible. Should be fun.

Lions don't really offer much at all in terms of a pass rush. Line should hold up well.

Looking back at the Arizona game, they were having a lot of success running the ball to the right, behind Lang and Sitton. I'm anxious to see if that keeps up against the Lions.
Alphonso Smith has been terrible for the Lions as a starting corner. Not like Pat Lee is an answer either, but it would be hard to believe he's as bad or worse given how Smith has played.

This is a really big game for Detroit- probably more important for them than the Packers. If they lose they are 4-6 and they will be 1-2 within the conference which probably puts them out of the playoff race. However, if they win they are right back in the thick of things.

Winning in Deetoilet has never been easy but if the Packers can find a way to win they are still in the running for the division.
McCarthy is 11-1 -vs- DET.

Packers are 18-5 in Nov-Jan under McCarthy in the division. Over that same span the Bears are 12-9, Vikings 10-12, & Lions 3-16.

Aaron Rodgers has thrown 14 more TD passes than Matthew Stafford. Stafford has thrown 3 more INT's than Rodgers.

Rodgers is tied with Brees for the most TD passes in the NFL this year at 25. And he is second to Payton Manning in QB rating.
Remember Ryan Taylors block that helped spring Cobb for a nice punt return against AZ.

He received a $21k fine from the league for it.

GB has to be leading the league in fines for doing nothing wrong this year. Wasn't Golden Tate fined $7k for doing the same thing to Jennings?

teams can have bye weeks in that span and may or not play much (if at all) in January

These are (according to the original post) divisional games. For every win one team gets in a divisional game, another team in the division must get a loss.
Great, now we have to listen to Aikmann chuckling to himself when someone gets hurt or at the very least saying "It's probably a much worse injury than it appears, I hope"

(and the real sad thing is...I typed "when someone gets hurt" not "if")
Suh, rhymes with me.

@davebirkett
Ndamukong Suh didn't do his usual Wed media session. Before leaving locker room, he was having words w/Lions PR rep about stats from Sunday

NFC scout: "Players like Suh do not demand excellence of themselves because they believe they can be excellent just by walking on the field."

@WesHod
LB Clay Matthews (hamstring) is out for Sunday's game against Detroit #Packers

@WesHod
MM: I know Clay is not going to be available this week and we'll see what next week brings us. We'll see what happens next week

@WesHod
MM: We've been planning this week without Clay Matthews

@WesHod
MM: I thought Jordy Nelson looked his old self. I don't have a very high or any level of concern. He looked normal

@jasonjwilde
McCarthy on Woodson: "He's a lot closer than any of us thought he'd be at this time. Same with Greg Jennings.

@WesHod
MM: I had a chance to watch Charles Woodson in the weight room. He's a lot closer than I think any of us thought he would be at this time

@WesHod
MM: We've identified 3 things through our studies in winning division games - turnover advantage, 3rd down advantage, penalty advantage

@WesHod
MM: This stretch is unique. It runs together. You approach these games all the same.

@davebirkett
Aaron Rodgers conference call w/Lions reporters starting now

Rodgers: One guy on Lions defense who doesn't get enough credit is Tulloch. He's a big-time player

Rodgers on Suh: "He's one of the top players in the league ... He's a menace in the backfield."

Rodgers in Lions: I do think they're in desperation mode, just the urgency is amped up more

Rodgers was asked how much fun it is to be Aaron Rodgers: "It's all right."

Stephen Tulloch-> one man Wolfpack tackling machine! Terrell Manning takes some notes
Chuck vowed to be back on the very early end of his recovery prognosis, and Rodgers said to trust him on that. Looks like both knew what they were talking about.

A little unsure on Clay as I saw the "we'll see next week" quote, but have also seen "a couple of weeks" still thrown around Twitter. Anyone have any clarity on that?

UPDATE: Nevermind, this article appears to address that.

quote:
* Matthews: We know he wouldn’t be available this week. We’ll see what happens next week. The diagnosis was a couple of weeks, and this is week two, so we’ll see.
@TyDunne
He hasn't changed his Twitter handle from @HighRizer38, but #Packers CB Tramon Williams believes he is Optimus Prime link

quote:

“I’m definitely Optimus Prime,” the Green Bay Packers cornerback said. “I’m the leader of the Autobots. I’m the leader of the young guys right now and when it comes down to the tough battles, I’ll lead those guys out there.”
God, I hate when crap like this needs to be floated around before the game. Especially after Johnson worked this D the last time they played. At least looking at the way the quote starts, it sounds like he was directly asked if he can be "Optimus Prime," which would be a shade better than him outright making the claim.

And I'm officially embarrassed I've committed this much time to this topic.
