K-Rod to Baltimore for 3B prospect....I'll run down who it is.
Nick Delmonico....3B in High A for the Baltimore. I'm not able to copy and paste. But news should break and multiple links should exist.
This is a steal. Krod was available to anyone, pitched well for a couple months, and turned into this kid.
Top 10 in their organizational rankings and fits a need with the Crew farm. Excellent move.
Delmonico has dealt with some injury issues this season, including a concussion. He got off to a fast start at bat and leaves Frederick batting .244 over 60 games with 13 homers, 30 RBIs and an .822 OPS.
Those concussions make me nervous, after seeing the way some guys really struggled to get their groove back.
Delmonico has flaws but he has virtues as well and has a chance to be an impact power hitter, though I'm curious to see how he'll do in Double-A. Still, this is a good return for the Brewers, picking up a young power bat in exchange for a 31-year-old reliever who won't be part of Milwaukee's next good team. It is a win-now move for the Orioles, but that's OK too. They already have a couple of pretty good players at the corners.
Hard to get excited about a position player hitting .244 at Class A. On the other hand, if there is one thing Doug Melvin has proven, it's that he can make a nice tall glass of lemonade if you give him some ripe lemons.
Hope Dougie deals Axford next but the Canadian in him probably won't let it happen.
Did Melvin talk to the clubhouse manager in Baltimore to try and understand if this kid is roiding up?
Good general managers don't do background checks.

Yes, I just saw haudricourt's tweet about the obp.
After checking out three places before coming here all I read was good things about NickyD and that the Crew got a nice haul for a guy who wasn't even on a roster of any sorts Opening Day. Me likey the deal and it is a position of need.
Yeah.. we added a guy who is instantly our 3rd best prospect in our system.
That's a great deal for K-Rod (who had a pretty big market of teams interested in him).
summarizing a quote from an AL exec via MLBtraderumors, "the problem with dealing with Milwaukee is that they expect a Jean Segura like return in all of their deals you make with them and that aint gonna happen"
I like it Doug... aim high, no reason to sell just because of salary, only sell if it makes sense for your team now or in the future.

Don't watch the video unless you have a strong stomach.
The market for Gallardo may have just heated up a tad.
I don't want to move him unless it's "Segura type deal", but Atlanta's is not the worst farm system in the world to try to pillage.
Hard to complain too much about what they got in return for K Rod. I mean, the guy wasn't even on the roster to begin the year so anything they got in return is probably a good thing. We'll see how this guy does but he's rated a top 10 prospect in the O's farm system so that's good with me!
It'll be really interesting to see if they do deal a Lohse or Gallardo. Everything I've been reading is that the Brewers will demand a lot back in return but in a season where we haven't had a lot of good news it's really a good position to be in because if they don't get dealt it gives Milwaukee options next year in the rotation. If they get dealt I think they can get replaced eventually.
Two previously available starting pitchers — Milwaukee Brewers righties Yovani Gallardo and Kyle Lohse — now figure to stay put. Both could have greater trade value in the offseason, when different dynamics will be in play.
At that point, Gallardo will have two years and $24.25 million left on his contract, Lohse two years and $22 million. Both of their average salaries will be lower than the amount of the qualifying offer, which is likely to be more than $14 million. And both will be more affordable than free agents like Santana, who likely will seek three-year deals at bigger numbers.--Rosenthal

Scooter back. Rickie finding a new gig?
Scooter sparked Rickie's big June. With July being such a stinker, maybe they thought they could jump start a little value for an August trade.
Or else they are starting to pull at-bats from Rickie to avoid the player option that kicks in with 1200 ABs over the final two years, or 600 next year.
It was only for the second game last night.
EDIT: Found out now he will stay, for now, due to Gallardo going to the DL
#Brewers make a July 31 move... and place RHP Yovani Gallardo on the DL with a left hamstring strain. Scooter will stay. More to come.
