Oy.
Now I know why ammo prays for you.
If you had the sole gem, would you snap(per) your fingers?
It's fun to bitch about how flawed this team is, but baseball is great because flawed teams can win when conditions work (or there are metal garbage cans) and sometimes all the right moves leave you watching tv
2023 San Diego Padres have:
— Danny Vietti (@DannyVietti) September 30, 2023
• this year’s Cy Young
• three 25+ HR hitters
• 2nd-best team ERA in NL
• a closer with a 1.16 ERA
• 3rd-highest offensive fWAR in NL
• 3rd-fewest errors in NL
They were just eliminated from playoff contention. Never seen anything like it. pic.twitter.com/TLW3oBvXhq
Everybody said if the Brewers hadn't traded Hader at the deadline last year they would have made the playoffs. Padres had Hader for the whole year and with all the other superstars they have still didn't make the playoffs. But the Brewers used what they got in the Hader trade which allowed them to get Contreras and Payamps and that is the reason they are in the playoffs.
Hader…Brewer MVP!
Hader isn't why the Padres didn't make the playoffs. I think they have a bunch of individuals and not a team concept. Plenty of egos. They just won an extra inning game to improve their record to 1-12.
I never said that was the case. The point is the Hader trade made it possible to get the pieces that should make the Brewers competitive for years with an outstanding catcher. JFC.
On to tonight. Contreras gets another night off from catching. And all the rookies except Monasterio are on the bench.
Is there anything that doesn't upset you? I never quoted anything you said or directed that comment towards you. I talked about why the Padres failed to have success, egos and extra innings.
Lauer on the verge of really getting embarrassed. No matter how bad it's going Counsell will give him a long leash.
How do they review and still call him out?
Marlins beating Pirates 4-2 in the 8th. D-backs and Astros scoreless in the 3rd. Cards drubbing the reds 11-5 in the 5th. Looks like the Marlins or D-backs.
6-2 Marlins now in the 8th.
I guess we match up better against the Marlins, so, go Fish.
Sorry Scrubbies.
After today they could be tied with AZ in the loss column. So tomorrow, or even Monday with the suspended game, could tell us who it will be.
The Marlins do have the tiebreaker over the Diamondbacks. The best case scenario would be the Marlins forced to finish the suspended game in NY on Monday to possibly tie the Diamondbacks. Marlins lose on Monday, finish as the #3 wildcard, and then play Tuesday in Milw. Let them rack up some frequent flyer miles before the playoffs.
Marlins win ! Bye Bye Scrubbies.
Prefer they don’t play AZ as their starting pitching is pretty good.
As for Hader, the question is less about San Diego and more what his impact could have been down the stretch for the Brewers. Milwaukee cratered after that move.
Just like the Milwaukee media, there are a lot of people on this site that think the Brewers are a model franchise that can’t do anything wrong.
Cubs are eliminated. Both the Marlins and D-backs hold the tie breaker over them. If Cubs win tonight and D-backs lose D-backs still 1 game up on the Cubs. If the same happens tomorrow then they are tied but the D-backs hold the tiebreaker.
ESPN Wildcard standings have the Marlins as clinched a playoff spot.

You may be right but may be not. But without the players they got for Hader they could not have made the trade for Contreras unless they traded away Mitchell or Frelick or maybe both.
I don't think many Brewers fans were happy with the timing of the Hader trade. Most were resigned to the fact that Hader would be traded but expected it after the season was over. The Brewers flat out got lucky being able to cash Ruiz in for Contreras and Payamps.
I don't see the media or people on this site calling the Brewers a model franchise so I'm curious where that even comes from.

I agree with this. Brewers effed up last year by trading one of their most popular players with the club and fans. It just sent a horrible message to everyone. Plain and simple. Backfired in the worst way.
Meanwhile, 2 FG's and we win this thing. Not over yet.

They got really lucky that the A's front office targeted Ruiz. Ruiz steals a lot of bases, but he's not been good this year (652 OPS). He'd have been another Turang type.
If you are evaluating the trade as strictly Hader for Ruiz and Gasser it was a disaster so far.
They didn't know the A's would gift them Contreras for Ruiz as part of the Murphy trade.
It doesn't matter what they knew, it only matters that it happened. And in the long run the Brewers are much better off.
Looks like we play the Marlins.
Just win.
Challenged......why can't Milwaukee play AZ?

If the Marlins win tomorrow we'll be playing AZ on Tuesday.
Pirates up 3-0 in 8th. Would much rather not face the Diamondbacks.
Asps, very dangerous.....
You go first.

So the Marlins lost and we still play the Diamondbacks? You gave me bad info!
@Blair Kiel posted:So the Marlins lost and we still play the Diamondbacks? You gave me bad info!
Not really. I said if the Marlins win we get the Diamondbacks, they controlled their own destiny. It wouldn't have mattered whether the DBacks won or lost today. Had the Marlins lost and the DBacks won today the Marlins, who held a 4-2 tiebreaker over the DBacks, would have had to finish a suspended game in NY. Since the DBacks also lost today the best they can do is tie the Marlins and lose the tiebreaker.
It will be interesting to see how the playoff roster is set. It would not surprise me if Tellez or Anderson were dropped in favor of Mitchell.
Anderson was actually DFAed when Mitchell was recalled. If he goes unclaimed, which will no doubt be what happens, he could still be put on the post season roster. No way that happens either.
What is our pitching rotation?
The D Backs have two very good top of rotation pitchers in Gallen and Kelly. Would much rather have faced Miami or Chicago.

Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell hasn’t officially announced his probable pitchers, but they are plain to see. Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff and Freddy Peralta have been lined up in that order for weeks. On the radio broadcast they said game one will be around 6:00 pm Tuesday.

I blame Rick. 😀

Gallen and Kelly will be going short one day of rest. But I agree, I said it 3 weeks ago, AZ was dangerous in a 3 game series with two top of the line starters. Burnes and Woodie are just going to have to best them.

If the Brewers pound the DBacks, then you can blame me for the matchup. The DBacks are very streaky and haven't played well down the stretch which makes them dangerous.
