In an attempt to try and move forward, here are some highlights from MM and some tidbits for Eagles week:

In other updates from Tuesday afternoon’s press conference, McCarthy said:

♦ (Running back) Eddie Lacy played very well. Bright spot for our offense, he carried torch. He was more physical than he was in past.

♦ Tackle Derek Sherrod, who was activated from the PUP list on Tuesday, needs more padded work before he’s ready to play.

♦ My message has changed since Monday morning (due to injuries). There's a path to get where you want to go. Do what we need to do to stay on track.

♦ You have to keep moving when injuries occur during game. Game is moving, can't take eyes off field. I won't lie, I was peeking at tunnel last night waiting for Rodgers to run out after injury.

♦ I'd much rather play games with Aaron Rodgers (when asked whether his competitive juices flow with the challenge of playing without Rodgers).

♦ Doctors feel good about where (linebacker) Clay Matthews is right now. Matthews is going to try to go in practice this week wearing a club.

♦ Special teams did well considering all the linebackers went down.

Feel good about where (linebacker) Andy Mulumba is after ankle injury.

♦ Give Bears' offense credit for why defense didn't play very well. We didn't tackle well.

♦ (Wide receiver) James Jones came out of game good physically. He didn't have chance to get into a flow. Was in and out of lineup.

♦ It's critical that one individual doesn't hold back the unit. That's why Seneca Wallace is here. We will play offense like we always do.

♦ We ran the football well, but pass protection not what it should have been.

♦ (Guard) T.J. Lang suffered concussion. We're on short week. How long he'll be out, do not know that.

♦ Jermichael Finley put on injured reserve. It's in best interest of him as man, player, husband. Everybody agreed he should not play football this year. What happens in Finley's future beyond this year has not been determined. This is right thing to do by him.

♦ Eagles defense will throw a lot of scheme at you. Will have challenging week as a whole offense.

♦ We did not convert third downs against the Bears. Wallace wasn't here for camp, not making excuses, but he will have a week to get timing down.

♦ Different for a quarterback to come off the bench and go into the game. A lot of adjustments were made during the course of the Bears game.

♦ Seneca Wallace has played in a lot of games, been in the league a long time. Look for him to improve with week of preparation.

McCarthy seemed pretty positive about Rodgers today, yeah? Said he was relieved and that everyone felt better after getting new information.

That's nice.

Defense is going to have to step up this week.

"Sunday's contest marks the 38th time the Packers and Eagles have met in the regular season, with Green Bay holding a 24-13 edge in the series. The teams have met three times in the postseason, with Green Bay winning one of those games."

"It will be a matchup of the top two teams in the NFC since 2000. Green Bay has a 136-80 regular-season record (.630) over that span, No. 1 in the conference, while Philadelphia checks in at No. 2 " (129-87-1, .597).

Chip Kelly said Wednesday that quarterback Michael Vick remains limited in practice with the hamstring Vick reinjured 10 days ago. There was never any chance the Eagles were going to try to run Vick back out there this weekend in Green Bay with Nick Foles coming off a game in Oakland where he tied an NFL record with 7 touchdown passes, but Kelly's prognosis hints that Foles could get more than another week to solidify his starting status.

Kelly also said the Eagles are not ready to move away from Damaris Johnson as their primary returner, even though DeSean Jackson's punt returning and Brandon Boykin's kickoff returning in Johnson's place against Oakland were more dynamic than what the Birds have been getting from Johnson. (Before you get too excited, Bobby April coaches the Raiders' special teams.)

Kelly reiterated that Johnson's ankle injury, which kept him out of practice all last week, was the reason he didn't return against the Raiders, not displeasure with his work.

"DeSean had one long return there (32 yards), and Brandon hit one up in there (for 41 yards), so those were positives, but we're not ready to make a wholesale change yet," Kelly said.

Boykin, the nickel corner, and Jackson, the most lethal weapon on the receiving corps, have vital roles on a team that plays a lot of snaps, because of its hurryup style. The Eagles probably would like to not add to their workload and expose them to greater risk of injury byt putting them back there reguarly.

Kelly touted the Green Bay running back tandem of James Starks and Eddie Lacy, which combined for 190 yards on 28 carries in Monday night's home loss to the Bears. With Aaron Rodgers sidelined, the Packers probably will key their offense around the ground game.

Some paawsitive news

Need the D to step up with Rodgers out. Getting Perry and Clay back would be a good start

injury report: Lang did not practice; Matthews limited; Perry limited; Pickett (knee) full; Rodgers DNP; Mulumba limited.

McCarthy: spent couple minutes with Matthews, first time wearing club, needs to be adjustments during week. Other than that, scheme review.

MM: Changing QBs, it's important to stay in tune with his skill set. conceptually, we are not going to reinvent the wheel.

MM: Wallace had good practice. Wednesday is an install day.

MM: Sherrod is on 53-man roster. Look at him like rest of guys, competing to be active on game day.

MM: Lang is confident, we'll see how he is.

MM: Matthews will get attention from opponent. He has good mindset how to play with club.

MM: I'm hoping Nick Perry can go this week. We'll know more tomorrow with normal practice.

@MikeVandermause

MM: I'm taking good care of myself. My heart goes out to John Fox and Gary Kubiak, two class acts.

@MikeVandermause

MM: Rodgers going about it as if he's playing in the game, he's excellent teammate, right next to Seneca, he's extremely involved

Andy Reid, Marty Morningwheg, Dick Jauron, Jon Gruden, Ray Rhodes, Mike Trgovac were all coaches for both franchises

Reggie White, Seth Joyner, Antonio Freeman, Dorsey Levens, Jeff Thomason, Ty Detmer, Al Harris, Allen Barbre, Keith Jackson, Jim McMahon, Doug Pederson all played for both teams

Lots of connections here including current Eagles DC Billy Davis who coached with MM in SF and Dom Capers in Carolina

And Clay gets to play against his brothers' team leading to this note:

Eagles fans call Casey Matthews " Fredo" in reference to the loser brother from the movie " The Godfather"

Rodgers is following in Bert's footsteps, I see.
