I think Webster deserves his own thread.
PaPa Christian might agree.

I liked what I saw last August.

Well.....he's playing on Sundays. At least last year. 🤷♂️ We'll see for this year. He will have competition and he knows it.
I have a hunch about him. Just needs an opportunity and improve blitz pickup from what I saw....on SUNDAYS (not the FCC 😁)
Some highlights on Wilson

Nice video. Annoying as fuck voice/hype man.
He sounds like he had one semester of forensics as a HS freshman.
I mean this in all sincerity, I hope this goes down as a legendary positive prognostication thread.

Yes but that was August.
Now we need consistency in Sept-February
Hopefully he's worked on his conditioning. Seemed to be an issue in preseason last year.
Draft write up

"Every year, there’s an unexpected star in an NFL preseason. For the Green Bay Packers on Friday at Cincinnati, it was running back Emanuel Wilson.
Wilson turned in a remarkable and poignant performance on the anniversary of his father’s death. He rushed for 111 yards on just six carries, highlighted by an 80-yard touchdown run.
Wilson was living out a childhood dream on a day that will always be significant to him for reasons that extend far beyond football. Fourteen years ago to the day, his father died.
Wilson told NFL Network that one of his last memories with his father was playing football in the yard. He said he could still hear his father saying,
"Smurf, keep working, keep going."
Wilson was 10 when he lost his father.
Speaking from experience, that's a memory that never fades away. It stings at every turn.
For Wilson, he wanted to give up the very thing that was part of one of his final memories with his father.
"Honestly, I kept working. I just kept my faith in God. I wanted to stop playing football after my dad passed,"

Same as Jayden Reed....locker room chemistry. Something else Gutey learned from TT.
"It's not fantasy football" - Ted
Meh... how soon we forget that he just low balled the most loved guy in the locker room. It's not that important to him.

Remind me....was that Rasul or Aaron Jones?
Yeah it matters. He didn't want to pay a 30 year old RB, who will almost certainly miss some time with injury, a boatload of cash. It IS important to him.
The Vikings will run him right into the ground until he's hurt. They don't GAF about him.
Still pulling for the kid. How great would it be if the light comes on, and he makes the jump to stardom.

Year early than a year late.
William Henderson did it first.
I bet they put MarShawn on the PUP (if eligible, not sure of the rules) or IR-to-return and keep Wilson. Wilson seems to like to bounce outside a lot. I like his speed, but I think he's marginally better than Dillon between the tackles.
Dillon... they either have to get him out in space or just cut him if they aren't going to use him properly. He's not a between-the-tackles runner, even though he's built for it. When he gets into space, he's better on his feet than he is plunging into the line. Plus, I cannot imagine DBs being too excited to tackle a 245-lb guy going downhill. If he were 3-4 inches taller or so, he'd make a great TE.
This is the type of play, in pads even, that Dillon can do when he's got room (17 seconds in). Yes, it's TC but it's still good: https://www.packers.com/video/#
And this one against Detroit, again in space: Hurdle and truck
Longest of career: 40 yards vs Steelers
Wilson is the Whisper Goodman of Ruvell Martins.
Dillon almost seems more a glider than a hammer, somewhat akin to Ron Dayne.
Samkon Gado would like a shout out....
The fact that Dillon didn't play (like most starters) and Wilson did is pretty telling as to who has the edge on the roster spot, at least to me anyway,
Wilson certainly didn't help himself tonight.
I would like to see him with the 1's though.
Howard on the sidelines with all the starters was interesting
I think it's hard to evaluate a running back when they're met in the backfield most of the time.

AJ Dillon is very good in pass protection. Dillon probably weighs north of 250 (he's listed at 247) and Wilson is listed at 185.
Wilson, even if he does everything correctly, is still likely to be trucked by most linebackers on blitz protection. Dillon is bigger than most of the LBs, and can even hold up against DEs.
That's why Dillon is going to make the team.
Yeah, I thought Wilson would improve in PassPro but I haven't seen it much this year. It doesn't matter how good of a RB you are, if you can't PassPro you'll never get on the field.
Packer roster has Wilson at 226.
Agree about pass pro. They'll stick with an inferior runner if he can protect the franchise QB.

Assuming or even stipulating that Dillon is "very good in pass protection" (and even decent as a receiver leaking out of the backfield), he still lacks any burst or vision as a running back and is surprisingly bad at moving a pile in short yardage situations. At this point, AJ really is bad at running the football in the NFL.
In essence, he is about as effective as Kuhn as a RB and that is why 31 other NFL teams that had an opportunity to sign AJ for peanuts all passed on him. I don't believe he even got a sniff from another franchise.
Dillon being on the field on obvious passing downs is fine but that is as far as it goes.
Dillon alternating with Jacobs every second or a third series is waving the white flag as far as running the football goes and the offense is likely to suffer because of it, just like when the offense got bogged down last season when Dillon was forced to be the "feature" back after Aaron Jones went down.
MLF has got to get creative when it comes to running the ball with someone other than Jacobs, because AJ Dillon ain't it.

When exactly did you see Wilson in pass pro and can you give us a breakdown of what happened on each of those plays ?
Wilson, like all RBs, is dependent on the OL opening holes for him - and they didn't on Sunday. Not only that, but Tyler Davis is responsible for blocking the backside DL on outside runs, and he whiffed too. Repeatedly. That was Tyler's first live action since tearing his ACL last year and there's a fair bit of rust to be worked out. Wilson had nowhere to go, can't evaluate him off of that shit show
Wilson has shown he's an NFL caliber RB and MLF wants a stable of them available, so I think he makes the squad. With Marshawn Lloyd headed for short term IR as noted earlier. That gives Lloyd more time to heal his hammy, learn the offense and be fresh going into game 5 at the LA Ram-a-lama-ding dongs.
A rotation of Jacobs-Dillon-Wilson is fine imo
Here's the write up from Sunday
RB Emanuel Wilson: The second-year running back produced the offense’s two biggest plays — a 15-yard run in the second half and an 11-yard catch on a third-down screen. In between, Wilson produced a handful of impressive pass pro reps, including two where he identified the blitzer and got him blocked. PFF credited Wilson with breaking four tackles, and he gained 43 yards after contact. His one catch was an impressive grab on a lobbed pass in the screen game.

He had a couple but when he's out there it's mostly to run. He's clearly better than that schlub they trotted out there in the 4th quarter.

I'm glad the "write-up" thinks he's so good. I haven't seen enough of it to think he's fine out there protecting the Franchise.
This is his 2nd year on the team. He's currently on the bubble and no lock to make the team. Lloyd's hammy May necessitate his position on the initial 53....but you know as well as I do, Gutey is always watching.
I like the kids running! Liked him last year. Nobody said it's easy. This team has Super Bowl aspirations and every player on the 53 is important. There's no "taking a flyer" on a player because the team is rebuilding. That includes backup QB
I see a lot of similarities to early Jones.
I too think Webster makes the 53 with Lloyd on IR as Satan posted.
I don't see any of Jones in Wilson. I see his ceiling as a third RB somewhere, if not here.

Definitely no PUP. That happens before TC starts. But IR for sure. And this year you can do that prior to week 1 instead of putting them on the roster THEN on IR with designation to return.
