Janis and Abrrederis showed against Arizona they can play in the NFL in the hardest of circumstances. The part that is hard to swallow is, it shouldn't have come to those circumstances. They both should have been getting playing time way sooner in the season, just like Aaron Rodgers said, and Charles Woodson said, and reporters for the Press-Gazette and the Sentinal said, and many of us said.
It's no secret what happened to the passing game this year and what the root of the problem was and what inspired the blueprint for defenses to stop us: no deep threat and receivers' inability to get open. Janis and Abby would have gone a long way towards remedying both of those problems, and in altering how opposing teams defended us. Instead, Mike trotted out the same combination of Jones and Adams on the outside and Cobb in the slot, and defenses just licked their chops and covered them.
I love Mike McCarthy and have much respect for him and I don't think I know more than him and go ahead and flame away and all that, but I just scratch my head at the personnel decisions involving receiver this year. Davante Adams, when he came back, I don't care what he did last year or at Fresno State or where he was drafted, he was just clearly and obviously and visibly not ready to start. He couldn't run, he couldn't cut cut, his routes were awful, he couldn't jump and he couldn't catch. Our coaches' collective response? Give him more snaps. Actually, give him ALL the snaps, snaps which could and should have gone to Janis and Abbrederis.
I realize it is not fair to Davante since he was starting to play better when he got injured and there is no way to prove Janis and Abby played better against Arizona than he would have, but I can't escape the feeling that playing Davante for all those games when he wasn't ready, and not giving Janis and Abbrederis more playing time, was this season's biggest mistake. It just seems like they started getting on the same page with the QB as the game went on, and it makes you wonder how good it could have been with a few games under their belts.
Anyway, end of subject and the season, and looking forward to the competition at receiver next year.
