Good article here

IMO, Finley does not want to play anymore and this has been a good faith attempt to show the insurance company they need to pay him in full.

It get's interesting if NE offers him 2 years at $7 million per. He pretty much has to accept it depending on the guaranteed portion.

2014 Steelers Free Agency: Early talks with Jermichael Finley included a contract offer

Analyzing what the Steelers' reported interest in free agent tight end Jermichael Finley means to the team, it's clear they want to add a big and fast receiving option.

USA Today reporter Tom Pelissero reported Monday night the Steelers and free agent tight end Jermichael Finley kicked around some numbers regarding a contract for at least the 2014 season.

What does that mean for the Steelers?

They're bargain-hunting, to be sure, but the value of a bigger (6-foot-4) and strong receiver can't be overestimated, particularly within an offense that lacks a big and experienced receiver outside their current tight ends.

And Finley probably isn't fairly called a tight end anyway. Think of him as a supersized slot receiver who can catch balls in traffic and in the best place of all, the end zone.

Finley has an insurance policy that would pay him $10 million if he doesn't play in the first four games of the season, but all signs point to him wanting to play for another few years.

The fact he hasn't yet signed with the Steelers only indicates he's waiting on a better offer, but the Steelers have clearly thrown their hat in Finley's ring.

Hard to fathom that the Steelers made Finley an actual contract offer when GB has yet to clear him, Seahags failed him on his physical, and the Patriots also took a pass based on the current status of his neck injury.

Not saying Finley won't be cleared at some point, but this story doesn't add up.

Throw a contract at 2014 Jermichael Finely.

Drop Eddie Lacy off your draft board because of injury concerns.

Proving once again you can't win a Super Bowl in July. But you can go a long way towards losing one.

This smells like either Finley himself or his agent are   in hopes to get GB to or another team to and get into some bidding war. My guess is Finley also didn't like what he heard in OTA's about Rodgers and Colt either. At this point with TC so close, he's probably getting nervous so then this story is leaked.

I just find it hard to believe the Steelers dial up Finley and throw contract numbers at him via phone.

Finley is collecting on that $10 million. After that it's anybody guess.

Even if the Pack signs him to a 1 year deal, he'll be placed on PUP to start the year at a minimum.

The impression I got from reading the Pelissero piece was that there was some loose talk about contract numbers, but not much more than that. To say a contract offer has been made strikes me as some pretty sloppy reporting.

Remember the Steelers team doc is the one who did the surgery, Dr. Maroon

And you are 100% correct on the impending start of TC making JF nervous

He has to learn an entire offense to be of any value to a new team- TEs have to learn the passing game and the running game, a sizable task given the limits of his particular cranium.

Remember the $10m is tax-free and he doesn't owe agent fees or union dues (I assume).  That is $10m in his bank account this year.  Any salary he gets from the NFL is gross.  I'm guessing he'd need $16-18m in gross salary to match the $10m settlement (and I'm not even factoring time value of money).  I'm not so sure Finley would get that kind of money unless he's 100% healthy.

Packers are not hitting the panic button...they drafted Rodgers, took a run at Lyerla who was solid in mini camps, and have Quarless and Bostick.

TGIF can take his sideshow to Minnesota or wherever washed up Packers go to die.

Finley is having a MRI and CAT scan tomorrow and said he will send the results to all 32 teams. He also said that playing again is "a pride issue now".

Take the $10mm Finley.

Show me the money!  Steelers contract not enough for Finley.

I still wonder how easy it would be to collect the insurance money if a doctor has cleared him to play?  Don't think the insurance company is ready to part with 10 million if he is cleared to resume his previous employment.

"As long as I wait, you know and I know, guys are going to go down and the money's going to shoot up," Finley said. "It's all a waiting game right now."

What does he think he is going to/should get offered? 7 mil a year like his last deal with GB? Won't happen.

Even if he wait's until some teams starting TE goes down, at best he'll get a pro rated offer with maybe an option for the following year depending on the team.

This is a player with multiple concussions, a serious knee injury which then got infected, a near career ending spinal cord injury, and a player who has never started 16 games in his career.

JerMike's delusions haven't changed.

but he has arisen anew from the ashes like a phoenix!!!

YOTTO!!!

yep, not much more than the vet minimum coming his way plus incentives.

that's all I'd offer for what he is at this point - unproven and a big risk.

One league source with direct experience pursuing disability benefits for NFL players explained that another player with a neck injury and a disability policy who received clearance from his doctor to play had to fight for two years to get the money.

Didn't Collins receive clearance from his doctor?
