Satori, I didn't mean the highest bidder on the open market, I meant he could get a better deal from the team of his choice on the open market.

My point was this:

If Flynn finds a team he wants to go to and they start to work on a deal with TT to sign and trade Flynn to that team, why wouldn't that team just call Flynn and say, "Matt we are negotiating a deal for $7M for you but TT wants a 1st and a 3rd. We are going to tell TT no deal but then we'll offer you $8M in FA and we get to keep our 1st and 3rd round picks."

Why would Flynn want to share his compensation with the Packers?

I don't see where the Packers have any leverage.
That scenario is certainly possible, especially if the parties focus solely on self-interest; then its tough to do a deal

But once Flynn signs the tag, he is the Packers property and no longer has the option of taking more $$ as you described - and the Packers wouldn't tag him without getting his blessings first.

The Packers front office could also say:

"We have a deal with another team and they have a better 1st and 3rd so you are now an Arizona Cardinal even though you don't want to go there"

Flynn knows his current status as the "Belle of the Ball" is solely due to the Packers taking a chance on him in the 7th round and investing thousands of hours of training and tutoring.

Flynn and the Packers will do right by one another instead of screwing each other IMO.

Going to be interesting to see it all unfold - and it sure would be cool to score a top pick for him

A swap of number ones? I wouldn't take that deal unless there was a high third thrown in. That's garbage value.
There are so many things that would have to go right for a trade to work that I'm skeptical that one will occur.

It has nothing to do with intentions. I think a great deal of good will exists between the two parties.

1. The money has to be right.

2. The location has to be agreeable.

3. The cost to the other team has to be affordable enough so that the benefit of having Flynn and giving up the pick or picks outweighs the risk of simply attempting to sign him as a FA.

4. The tag is going to be in excess of $14 Mil.

5. The risk losing of losing Finley, and not being able to pull off a deal for Flynn is real.

If TT is able to pull off a deal for better than a compensatory pick for Flynn and still keep Finley he will have done an outstanding job.

If he gets only a compensatory pick for Flynn and keeps Finley, he will have done his job as well as could reasonably be expected (IMO).

If he ends up with Flynn @ $14 Mil for a year, and/or loses Finley because the franchise tag wasn't available (even temporarily) IMO he will have mishandled the situation.

I don't expect the latter to happen, and I look forward to seeing what TT does. Not an easy situation.
