Embarrassed. And it starts with Bud, I dont see adjustments.

Giannis has to be shaken. He's been stopped cold.

Bud didn't seem to have any answers for this zone, even though several much weaker teams (Pacers, Heat) gave the Bucks big problems when they had to face it. Bud's answer seems to be to let Middleton dribble for 10 seconds and then force a shot.

Other than Mirotic the game entire team has been bad.

Good thing it’s just one game

It's not a situation where the Celtics surprised them with something. The Bucks dud games are typically when they shit the bed from the 3 point line. They are 13-34 today - above their season percentage.

If you are not a fan of either team watching this, you would predict that this a series that won't last long. At best it's Celtics in 6.

They are down 20 to a team that is not playing their best game.

Giannis can get away with forcing things against 2 or 3 defenders against lesser teams, but hasn't been able to get away with it today.  The Celtics are too good at positioning and staying in front of him.  He's got to find open teammates sooner when facing double and triple teams.

In fairness though, everyone other than Mirotic was ice cold today, so that made it easy for the Celts to send multiple guys at Giannis.

Every starter played way below their capabilities today.  Hill and Mirotic helped keep things close in the first half,  but other than that little nice stretch, what a terrible game overall for basically everyone.  They definitely missed Brogdon today, but even with him, I'm not sure he could have made up for the crappiness of everyone else.

Celtics didn’t play their best game?  Compared to what?  Perhaps they can play better but offensively they were much better than usual.  When guys like Kyrie (and others) are hitting shots falling backward with a defender in their face I’m fairly certain the ball is bouncing your way.

Milwaukee got punched in the mouth early and were never able to respond.  They cut the lead before half, but the Celtics played with a purpose and intensity and physicality and Milwaukee couldn’t respond.

Boston is a battle tested playoff team and the Bucks are not.  It’s rare this year you’ve seen them play this poorly but hopefully this is their wake up call.  If they go down 0-2 this series is over.

Game 2 of this series may be the most important Bucks game since 2001.

I've said in other threads that a competitive series loss in Round 2 would be disappointing, but the year would still be considered a success considering where they came from last year.

If the Bucks get blown out again in Game 2, then you have to question whether the roster as currently constructed will ever be competitive to get to an NBA finals. A 4 game sweep (or a gentleman's 5 game loss) will mean that you really have to consider whether bringing Middleton back (or spending big money to bring back Lopez) is just going to lock the Bucks into being a perpetual second round exit team.

Let's see what Bud does. Giannis played poorly but in the end 7-22 for 21 points and 8 rebounds against constant double and triple teams is enough to keep you in games if the other guys take advantage of the wide open looks or lanes that the massive attention you are getting should provide. Middleton was 5-12 (But 3-4 from 3) for 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists. Not a star turn, but not terrible.

But Lopez, Bledsoe, Sterling Brown, and Connaughton going 5-27 on a lot of good looks is going to get you beat by the Cavs and Suns, let alone a playoff team.

Let's see how Bud adjusts.

You’re not going to shoot35% and give up 54% and win very often. Look, they were tight. You could see it. They had too long to think about it, and they crapped down their leg. Giannis didn’t give them anything they weren’t ready for. Lopez firing air balls, Brown wilted, and so did Bledsoe. The pressure got to them.

Ironically, the only guy that was ready to play was Middleton. Mirotic tried to keep them in it, but even then the rally dies when they got nothing from the starters.

Iβ€˜ll take some positives out of this- they got a good, strong, bitter taste of playoff basketball. REAL playoff basketball. The kind where the officials let the contact go, and you have to adjust.

Boston is confident now. The Bucks have to now overcome the psychological edge that Boston has. They can only do this one game at a time.

I didn’t realize this but a couple of years ago the Celtics got down 0-2 to the Bulls and won 4-2.   Not that I want to see them down 0-2 but down 0-1 isn’t the end of the world either.  Come out tomorrow night and win and it’s on.

It's not that they lost. A tough fought game that ends with a loss after going back and forth in the final minutes is different than a loss in which their scheme fundamentally shut down what the Bucks have done all year.

The best example of a team getting blown out in Game 1 and coming back to win the series was the 1985 NBA Finals. The Lakers lost Game by 34 but won in 7 games. The difference was that they lost on the road AND they had two of the top 5 or 10 players in NBA history playing for them (along with a third HOFer). Giannis is good, but he doesn't inspire as much confidence as Magic, Kareem, and Worthy.
