Game Balls

  • Rodgers balled out.  Drove from the 10 for tying score with a bunch of scrubs around him.  Speaking of scrubs.  Can we stop jerking off over these no name WR’s every preseason yet?
  • Kevin King bounced back and had a good game.
  • Devante Adams, great performance.

Lame Calls

  • Inability to run the ball leading to MLF choosing not to run Jones on the goal line the last two drives.   We gotta at least try Jones there. He is the most skilled weapon on the field.
  • Kickoff coverage.   Put it through the back of the end zone because we can’t cover.   I think JK kicked off in college, maybe he can do it.
  • Playing Nickle all night with Redmond and getting abused in the run game.   Goodson played the last 2 drives and made an immediate impact.   Goodson isn’t good, but he’s better at filling a hole than the no name safety we had playing ILB all night.  Furthermore, it’s not like Redmond can cover anyone anyways.   Get him the F out of there.
  • Lancaster and Lowry.  These guys got abused.  Watching the middle open like Moses parting the Red Sea was disturbing.   No ILB to cover up there bad play made it even worse.
  • Alex Light.  Another swing tackle that is tits on a bull.  For you city folk, that means he is useless.
  • Officials.   I’m not talking about a missed call here or there.   The shit officiating totally disrupted the flow of the game several times.  It sucked the fun and excitement out of the first 3 quarters of the game.  I’m tuned in to watch the athletes, not deal with those assholes.

Yeah.  I don't know where you go from here.  They need another offseason to shore up the O and find another ILB.  They'll win more games but MLF and ABM need to make some serious adjustments before they're ready to compete in the post season.  We'll find out in the next two weeks what this team is made of.

- the possession and change of field position was a big problem, special teams was awful.

-refs are a joke, that review call on phil, if that is not pi, then why even have that option in the dam game? horrible, not as a packer fan, but a football fan.  that was put in so they guarantee to get the right call, awful.

- run d was putrid.  now, i see phil has the 2nd best ol in the nfl...but wow, abused.  if you don't think dal is going to run it up our gut....

- our off did not get it done,  couple guys playing, others were not to the level phil was playing, gb offense were playing like phil was going to give it to them - because everyone was hurt in the secondary...so just give it to us...uh, no...doesn't work that way.

definitely some warts came out, but we could easily have taken that game, so its not like we got embarrassed or something, we could have won...just didn't - the problem is that margin is what separates the nfl...

Boggles the mind why we didnt punch it in from the 1. heck 2 sneaks wouldve got it done. Pound Vitale if you must, wildcat, i dont care. Putting the ball in the air inside the 5 continuously on those last 2 drives was asking for trouble

We need another WR to help Adams. So many dropped passes.

Run defense was non existent. they were getting 5 yds before first touch.

We'll be ok, should still be in the thick of it if we stay healthy.

Game:

- Rodgers performance should quiet the doubters for at least a week

Lame:

- Word is out you can run on the Packers. Philly controlled the lines, Packers looked silly. This will haunt them.

- Starting to look like they cut the wrong kicker, Gutey should fix this sooner than later.

- After all the talk and hype about running the ball this looked a lot like MM’s offense last night. MLF talks a good game but we have yet to see it.

Pedersen is a helluva coach and play caller.  He seemed to have the D's number whenever he needed it.

That had to be the worst 4 downs from the 1yd line I have ever seen from any team.  Stark difference between MLF and DP right there.  We don't have PHI's OL but we have enough to do better than that.

This is MLF's first year as HC and we all knew there would be growing pains.  Still tickled as hell he beat CHI and MIN to start it all off but he has some serious growing up to do.  We'll see how he handles DAL and yes, even DET.  That could be a tougher game than I thought.

Game Balls:  Rodgers, King, Adams

Lame Calls:  I am usually not one to blame the officiating but it was horrendous last night.  Apparantly, it is ok for the Eagles players to go helmet to helmet all the time.  #96 for the Eagles in my opinion should have been thrown out of the game.

I will not comment on the review of the PI.  NFL, why put in the ability to challenge if you won't over rule anything?

Run defense.  I know Philly has a very good OL but the defense got trucked in the run last night.

One positive thought is how many of us when we looked at the original schedule thought this team would be 3-1?  I for one thought if we somehow managed to be 2-2  they would be doing well.   Now let's forget this one and beat the freaking Cowpies!

No question. Great use of screens, kept the Packers guessing all night. And Ertz....no answer whatsoever from the Pack.

I could've swore I was watching the MM led Packers last night.  No pass rush, no answer for covering the middle of the field, no run defense to speak of, dumb play calling in the red zone, talk about running the ball but either can't or won't..

Rodgers looked very good, which was nice to see.  That said, YES... there are Packer receivers open that he either doesn't see or chooses not to go to.  Graham for example was wide open several times while the ball went elsewhere. On the INT in the end zone, it looked to me like Shep (I think) was all by himself for the TD.

I do find it interesting that nobody is talking about Mason Crosby.  That dude played a significant role in the loss.  The game started to turn when he had a short kickoff that allowed the huge return.  The very next kickoff went out of bounds to setup great field position.  No matter how shitty Green Bay played last night, they probably win the game is Mason Crosby just kicks two fucking balls out of the end zone.

Dallas is going to run up and down GB's ass next week.  Start Zeke if you have him.

+ it could have been worse

- it could have been better

long term hope is that we get better at run defense and Aaron continues to play well.

long term worry is injuries and that we don’t get better.

+ Despite glaring areas of poor play, the game is a coin flip against a very good team that made no big mistakes save for the roughing penalties.

+ Productivity at WR/TE outside of Adams much improved.  Packers gained close to 500 yards.

+ Rodgers extremely sharp for the most part.

+ Adams so elite.

- Run defense.

- Special teams.

- Rush offense.  Often the backs are met at or near behind the LoS.

- Injuries especially at CB.  King?  He could easily be out several games.  Tony Brown?  Worst case, CB may now be a sieve.  (This is my biggest negative.)  But, also at OL and RB.

- Wish MVS was more productive and consistently so.

Adams suffered a turf toe on his play to set up the 1st and goal. That is why he did not play few series.

Was it reported a turf toe?  That would not be good, won't heal during the season.

Yup, I noted it in my post. Agree completely. This seemed to change the whole direction of the game. It seemed to really bolster the attitude of the Eagles. Hate to get out the Crosby pitchforks but this is the last thing the Packers will need to worry about this year.

+++ Davante Adams showed why he one of the best, if not the best WR in the League; GMO had a nice game until he became invisible; Kevin King looked to be the DB we thought he could be last night; Jimmy Graham made some nice catches and had a TD; Rodgers running the the ball gained some much needed 1st downs and was the only running game we had most of the night. Back up RT Adam Pankey had a really nice block on the Philly defender in front of him to open a nice hole for Rodgers to run through for a big gain.

--- Our run defense is nonexistent; Why did it seem that Jimmy Graham was our only receiver on the goal line stance? There were three Philly defenders near Graham when Rodgers threw the incompletion; Officiating really stunk! I know some here do not want us to rag on the refs, as it makes us sound and act like vikings fans, but High School refs could have officiated this game much better than the crew who was at Lambeau last night! And it was a bad on both sides of the ball, but mostly on our side, though; Mason Crosby's kicking. This may very well be Crosby's last season as a Packer; Our defense only pressured Wentz a few times; For the most part, the Smiths were awfully quiet last night as were Kenny Clark and Dean Lowry; Injuries to Bulaga, Davante, Jamaal Williams, Kevin King and Redmond. At least we get a little more time to heal up with another mini bye.

I think he said it was turf toe but whether it was diagnosed as such we don't know yet.

Ask Sterling Sharp and Charles Woodson about turf toe if that’s what it is.

The legendary Green Bay receiver had the injury during the 1994 season, but still managed to have an outstanding season.

While in Oakland during the 2000 season, cornerback Charles Woodson suffered his first turf toe injury in the NFL. He hasn’t completely shaken the injury since.

------- Packers: RB Jamaal Williams was carted off the field on the first play from scrimmage. He did not return. CB Tony Brown suffered a hamstring injury and did not return. RT Bryan Bulaga left with a shoulder injury. He also did not return. S Will Redmond was being evaluated for a concussion. CB Kevin King suffered a groin injury. Adams suffered an injured toe.

King is turning into Nick Perry of the backfield.  Flashes sometimes when healthy...too often not healthy.

GMO made a couple nice catches but did not give me any more confidence he can be a legit #2.  The TD was a breakdown in coverage and the catch before that, he wasn't open.  Just jumped higher than the two guys at his ankles.  Where was he the rest of the game vs. DB scrubs?

Makes me sick.  You can't make this $hit up.  All positions where the Packers are thin.

Packers are going to have to add a player or two.  I’m sick of the extra DB instead of LB experiment.  Teams will continue to see that on tape and gash us with the run.

If King and Brown can’t go at CB they need another corner as well.

+

Rogers is the man as usual.

Another nice opening drive.

Nice catches by Adams, Allison, MVS and even Graham

-

HFA continues to evaporate

Injuries to Adams. Bulaga, Williams....

Defense still needs tackling lessons

Special teams smells

Red Zone offense gets at D-

The NFL is making the game unwatchable. Do they really want to do that?

Thursday Night Football after a Sunday game.

Thursday night football is only good for the winning team. I think it barely gives teams enough time to recover from the previous week's game. I cannot believe that they do not find a way to give both teams a chance/break by making it part of the bye. Give them a long week before the game and a long week after for both teams. Maybe don't do it every week, especially in December after the week following Thanksgiving when they can have two of the teams that played on Thanksgiving play that following Thursday.

Eye agree that I dislike Thursday Night Football as it is currently configured.

Cheeze, I agree it is only good for the winning team.

I am not sure if its true or not but there is a proposal coming that will have the NFL preseason done away with and go to a 17 game season.  Along with going to 17 games there will be two byes per team and one of the byes would be built in before a teams thursday games.

pass interference is now more controversial than it was before they changed it due to New Orleans crying about it. 'The league should do away with this nonsense now and not wait until the end of the year.

I dont get the running just for the sake of running. They werent getting anything. I am not sure if it is on Jones, the line or just the overall scheme. Need to go back to the drawing board with that non sense. Seems as tho the offense was consistenly in 2nd and 12 mode. Then they get a few yards to make it 3rd and 6 and stressfull down and distance makes the chance of converting less than ideal.

Not impressed with Lafluers 1st four games. Hopefully he learns to do a better job but the offense except for a few plays looks just like McCarthys offense.

Is there a 3rd option for getting the ball over the goal line I'm missing?

+ Davante Adams was fantastic.  He took advantage of the CB injuries the Eagles have and destroyed them.  He was probably the best player on the field for either team yesterday.

- All the injuries.  This team just doesn't have much depth across the board and it showed late in the game.  It's scary what a dropoff there is once either offensive tackle is out.  That we're forced to rely on Bryan Bulaga AGAIN for another year after he's continually shown for the past 2/3 years that he has trouble finishing games is a huge problem.

- It is crazy that we need to long for a couple of guys who were underperformers to come back, but Montavious Adams and Oren Burks returning from injury might be the only hope they have for improving the run defense.  That might be a pipe dream, but it's probably the only hope they have in fixing what quite possibly is a bottom 5 level run defense.

Definitely the worst thing to come out of last night's game is the injury to Davante.    We aleady were pretty average in terms of talent overall at WR/TE.  If he's out or hobbled, that changes them from average to clearly below average in that area.

Boiling it down, there's one huge positive and one huge negative.

The biggest positive is Aaron Rodgers is still Aaron Rodgers:

First and foremost, his accuracy was off the charts.  Some of the throws were just darts with a flick of the wrist that made you go, "Wow."  Even more encouraging than that, his pocket presence was stellar:  He stepped up when he could, stepped away when he had to and ran when he had to, all at the exact right time and with zip in his step we haven't seen in a while.  Just a superb performance in every way by a master, proving he is still physically and mentally one of the best in the League and going nowhere.

Even the humility after the game was encouraging, when he took the blame for not seeing Shephard open in the back of the end zone.  The man is a perfectionist, and when it is the Quarterback and face of the franchise performing like that, there can be no bigger positive.  Game Ball.

The biggest negative is the run defense, even more so than injuries, since the problem existed even before the latest spate of players going down.  If it doesn't get fixed, it won't matter how great Rodgers plays, the season won't go far.  Huge source of concern because there doesn't seem to be an obvious solution.

did you not see Jones 3yd rushing TD earlier? maybe try FB dive with Vitale?

MLF needs to scheme something for short yard. Maybe it won't work better than what they've done now, but he at least needs to put in another wrinkle. Go jumbo and have another OL lineup in the backfield as a lead blocker?

Just on this page, people have complained that MLF tried to run too much and ended up putting the team in 2nd and long and different people have complained that he didn't run enough in short yardage at the goal line. He didn't have good options in the run game - that was the problem. He was damned if he did and damned if he didn't.

If he'd have run the full back dive, the entire board would have screamed in unison about how much they hated that play under MM.
